Thanks for the info. So, if I'm understanding right - if I choose a nice vibrant pantone colour on the left, in order to match it as closely as possible to the pantone when printing in CMYK, it might be wiser to use the guide to find a closer match on the right side? So if I know I'm going to be printing in CMYK I'd probably want to recolour the artwork to a CMYK value that looks closer to the original pantone selection? (Rather than just accept the shown CMYK equivalent?) 🤔

Yes that is correct. I tell people to start out using the left side of the bridge to find their "Call Out" pantone color and then the right side I use to show them what it will look like when I print. Sometimes have to adjust the color to achieve the correct pantone but picking a color more on the right side than the left side of the bridge. I hope that makes sense. Also, make sure you are working in a CMYK space and not RGB. I can't stress that enough.

I don't get it at all. We were taught to print in CMYK and then take that printed colour and put it beside a pantone book to find the closest matching pantone colour. Only then do we provide a colour matching guide for a brand. This book looks like nothing comes even remotely close to matching. So what's the point in buying it. Especially when considering this is one of their more outrageously priced books. It doesn't make any sense.

Nicholas, couple of comments here...first, I agree all the pantone books are expensive that is why I buy one every few years. Second, that is how we do it also. Print a sample and then try to find a match. Where this book helps out is that with the printed sample and a pantone color we can then do some matching a bit faster. Also, if a client brings in a printed CMYK sample then we can match a bit faster. Thanks for the comment and watching the video!
