    1. The job box..what did you do to improve it to the atf regulations?
    2. If you are storing more than 50 pounds or the particular 1.3g arent 50 pounds but are big or bulky and don't all fit in 1 box are you aloud to have more than 1 job box?
    3 also mine will be outside so do i need it bolted down or is it ok to be on dirt?
    4.it's in the open so do i need it hidden in another regular shed?
    5 As far as distances it says 150 feet all around but you had yours 100 feet so are they leniant in that?
    A. So i live next to an empty feild, but it has a baseball diamond next to house of feildside but it is rarely used anymore.
    Job box will be in the northeast corner of my backyard. Feild is on the north and baseball diamond is on the west feild side but on the northside of the house the feild also has the airport on northside of the feild but distance is far from backyard. Theres a park on east side of the feild. And theres a hill going downhill to east and the street on the bottom of the hill where cars park for park and house next to park.
    The other sides are the front of house facing west and patio and garage next to backyard facing south with neighbors yard on southside of the garage.
    6. Do you think they will be aggresive on the distances as far as the baseball diamond park and parking for tge park at bottom of hill.
    7. Do you think it matters near a airport?
    8. So the question is they aloud yours at 100 feet bexause maybe you have a lot of land even though it says its supose to be 150 feet but mine is not going to be the same all around with 2 sides maybe being good but with airport and park on otgerside and patio garage and house being in way of othersides
    Do you think theyll still be ok seeing hiw i dont think ill being storing them all year just before 4th and if i dont use for some reason ill either light tgem off somwe day after that or store until new years but definitely wont be stored all year until 4th the next year?
    9. What are the state and city permits or munical places i need to check on...i live in wisconsin?
    10. Also what are distances for lighting them off safely or minimun safe distance and with 1.3 can they break windows if there close ?
    11. how do i fill out paperwork if they are being fired off in to different addresses and city with same countys just stored at 1 address...do i need a job box at other address as well or can i just bring them over the night of the shoot?
    12. Does a person also need a insurance to light off 1.3 the otger address is in a non gated but couldrasack type area of holmes with certain rules...do i need permision from them as well or give notice of risk we already shoot fireworks tgere for past 10 years so they know and the blocks around shoot stuff off anyways but kind of worried on spectators houses safety plus we light on a walk path that borders a pond.
    The pond is a oval that is in middle with pathway arouns all of it with all the houses back yard on all sides of the pond?
    13. Do i need to fill out on aplication for license that i may shoot off in 2 different places or is it only for buying transporting and where ill be storing?

    The ATF type 54 application asks for local/state permit numbers before issuing you a permit. To get a local permit in the state of North Carolina you have your ATF Type 54 permit before applying. Talk about a catch 22. They won't give you an answer as how to circumvent this also. I guess you have would have to get your ATF 54 in another state before applying in NC for local permits? This is wild.

      This is the box I used for my magazine.
      www.homedepot.com/p/RIDGID-48-in-x-24-in-Universal-Storage-Chest-48R-OS/300748574
      I used flex seal rubber paint. It ended up being more expensive than other options, but it was what I had so I used it. Basically it just needs to be a non sparking protective coating. One guy used truck bed liner stuff. You can put the box anywhere except in your house. There are no table of distances for safety with the indoor magazine. You can only store up to 50# of pyro weight at any given time. The locks must have at least a 3/8" diameter shackle, and the have to be at least a 5 tumbler lock or more. most stores only stock 3 and 4 tumblers, so it will most likely be a special order. The job box instruction tell you the shackle height. To tall of shackle and it won't lock the box. I did a video a while back about answering 1.3 questions.

      I did not sign my original. Reason being if you sign the original, then you are not signing it in the presence of the supplier that you are registering with. Technically when you buy your product, you are supposed to sign it in their presence. Not sure if it really matters since you also have to give them a photo id as well. Every vendor that you purchase 1.3 product from will require a signed copy of your type 54 license as well as a copy of your photo id.

      That is what most people do. The place you buy them from will store them for you until you are ready to shoot them off. That is whats called "contingency storage". I would contact a seller of 1.3 fireworks in your area. Tell them you are applying for your license and you will need a letter of contingency storage. On the application, you mark contingency storage. Do not leave it blank. I did an internet search for 1.3 fireworks in my area. That is how I found my supplier.

    Just to be clear since I’m in the process of getting a 1.3g firework license I wanted to ask a few questions.It seems like a magazine is optional as long as you have contingency storage.Does the ATF interview you after turning in your paperwork? And do you submit a email to your 1.3g provider approving you for contingency storage?Sorry about all the questions I just want to make sure I’m doing things correctly.

    • @EngineerCatPyro
      @EngineerCatPyro ปีที่แล้ว

      Yes if you can't have an on prem magazine, you get a contingency letter from the place you plan on purchasing your 1.3g fireworks from. Just shoot them an email explaining your submiting the paperwork to obtain your Type 54 and will be looking to purchase product from them once approved. Send that letter in with your application. This is a very easy process as the vendor is always looking for new customers to sell to so they have no problem sending you the letter to provide to the ATF. Yes the ATF will schedule a visit to your home to interview you in person.

      to the best of my knowledge, you do not need to add the business that will do your contingency storage as they are already licensed to do so. The responsible persons is for yourself and anyone else that you want to be able to handle the fireworks for you. These are people who may have to handle the fireworks, but do not have the type 54 for purchasing. The type 54 license is for purchasing product only.

    • @fireworksphill6640
      @fireworksphill6640  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I shoot on the 4th of July, on my own property. If you are on public property, you are supposed get a permit, which then will require notifying the local authorities as well as the local fire dept. You will need fireworks insurance, set up plan as well as a safety plan. All that gets really expensive. just the insurance alone will be a few thousand just for 24 hours.

    Oh Phill if you don't mind I do have a question. Still learning everything. So after you obtain your license and have a ATF approved storage spot. Is a permit required every time you wish to use any 1.3 product or is it just some 1.3 product like larger shells?

    • @fireworksphill6640
      @fireworksphill6640  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      depends on where you plan on shooting. I live in Michigan, and Michigan is pretty lenient. Michigan does not require safety certificates or shooters license to shoot. most states do. you will have to check with the local authorities for where you want to shoot. I would start with checking your state laws. then with the local municipalities of where you want to shoot. I have acreage, since I shoot on my own property, I am not required to get a permit to shoot. If I shoot any where else, I would be required to get a permit, which then would require insurances, safety plans, authorized help (atf approved personnel) as you will have more than yourself touching the explosives. Any one touching a 1.3 product has to be authorized by the atf. The permit would be for all 1.3 product. Last time I priced insurance, it was about $2400.00 for 24 hr period. That was based off of the fireworks I planned on lighting, and the fact that is was in the country on my own acreage.

    • @fireworksphill6640
      @fireworksphill6640  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hi Curtis. I would locate a distributor. You can try to do a search for 1.3 distributors near you. Every 1.3 distributor should have contingency storage since they are already storing the product. The ATF will ask you where you will be purchasing from. They will also want a letter from the distributor that will show them you can store product there. Even if you have your indoor magazine, you will still need to buy them some where. A lot of times when I do searches for 1.3 product, there are very few places to buy. So far, I have purchased in Michigan and Indiana. TO find a distributor, I can suggest A) search the internet, B) Find a pyrotechnics club, then ask them. Some one in the club will know. C) try getting a hold of the ATF, as they are the ones regulating as well as inspecting all the documents for purchasing and selling. the 1.3 distributors will be in their system. As far as the magazine goes, it is nice to have it since you can store up to 50 lbs of pyro weight in it. It could save you hours of driving just to get product back to contingency. If you choose that route, you will also need to submit you plans for the magazine. You will need to draw a map of your property, make sure to show the street and all buildings on the property. It will need to have dimensions on it as well. You will need to show ho far away the buildings are from the street, how far apart they are, how far from your lot lines, etc. you will also need to notate where you plan on putting the magazine.

      @@fireworksphill6640 Thanks Phil!
      I was calling around yesterday and I got ahold of a pyro company that puts on shows. He told me that you also need to have a CDL, which I do and your hazmat endorsement, if you're ever transporting 1.3, even if it's one shell. I guess it's not an ATF thing but rather, a DOT thing. He said that you can get arrested by the DOT, if you get caught transporting 1.3, without proper licensing and placards.
      He then, suggested that I work for him, since they need technicians and that I wouldn't have to even get the ATF type 54 license, or any of that. Since he has all the proper licensing and insurance already, I could fall under his umbrella and be legal. Just curious on what your thoughts are. Also, I don't think that I can have an explosives magazine at my home, since I live in a neighborhood with an HOA. My house is small so, no room inside and I have neighbors all around me, so I don't think an outside magazine would get approved, where I live currently and I don't think the ATF would want me to have the magazine on any property that I don't own, like my friend's property where I do my shows every year.
      I do like the idea of a pyro group and I'm going to look for one. Thanks again Phil!

      I paid about $300 for it. It is nothing more than a construction site job box for storing tools on the job. It is considered a type 4, indoor magazine. I am limited to 50 lbs of pyro weight. Pyro weight is the weight of just the explosive powder. I painted the inside of it with a rubber paint and purchased the appropriate locks for it. It is only rated for low explosives. Here is a link to the one that I used. It currently is listed for about $400

      Contingency storage will be from the place that you will be buying the fireworks from. I did a jobsite box in my shed. I painted the inside of it with a non sparking material, and bolted it to the floor. I also had to fill out the "magazine" section of the application. Once the ATF agents inspect and authorize your job box, they will give it identification numbers. after that, you can use it.

      You will have to check with your state and local authorities to see what is required. A lot of states require safety training as well as a shooters license. Your local restrictions may require a safety plan, fireworks insurance and possibly a show permit. The type 54 license is only good for purchasing your product. That is it. It is very expensive to legally shoot 1.3 product. However, if your into it, I would suggest joining a fireworks club if you have one near by. They typically will do various shoots per year, they make sure everything is legal. You can usually shoot your product off then.

Yes it is harder to get with a felony, but not impossible. Like I said, I would apply. You never know unless you try. Once you fill out the application, they will have to follow thru the process. Just be polite during any contact with them. "Yes sir, or ma'am. No sir or ma'am." When they come out and interview you in person, it definitely helps if you, your clothes, your living arrangements are clean. Part of being a licensee is good house keeping. There are many safety protocols to follow when ever you shoot. Some states require proof of safety classes as well.

    • @fireworksphill6640
      @fireworksphill6640  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, I do not know the answer to that one. If I understand things correctly, would mean that In Pa, there was a state law passed allowing for medical marijuana. There for the state says it's legal, but the federal government still recognizes it as illegal. Although I'm not sure, my gut tells me that since the type 54 license is a federal license, they would also look at the state law as a federal violation, however one of those laws that the federal government just isn't enforcing. That being said, my understanding is also that the type 54 license is a "shall issue" license. By that I mean when interviewed, they are not looking to interview for the license, rather they are looking for things to deny you the license. Not sure if they would see that as a reason for denial or not. One way to find out, is to contact them and ask them directly.
