I just bought an old 814 to do some jobs around the farm. What attracted me to it was the boom & bucket pins are all as tight as new. No slap at all. The Perkins 6 cyl is a sweet old engine.
Drove 814 Supers when they were new with the "power slide". First machine I drove with a piped breaker as well. Brought back great memories this video - thank you. Last big track machine I drove was a JS long carriage 330.
My wifes Grandad worked on the 814 line at the plant back in the 80s and 90s, his job was to bolt together the swing bearings on every machine. Good to see that old machine still working.
New subscriber , my name is Jaimie I’m a stroke survivor before my stroke I did similar things worked on machines and even owned my own little mini digger , your videos help me remember my past , sorry for rambling on but keep up the good work , 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻
Nice video. Loved it. I was taught on an old 360° Hymac. By a good operator from Ireland. The smell of hydraulic fluid, antifreeze & diesel, it all gets tattooed into the mind. Loved it.
I dug out the ground with a 814 for a mates swimming pool to be built recently and its amazing for a machine of its age how much power it still has I'm sure jcb still can repair these classic machines
Good video Kurt . Loved the part when he was going though the mudd and those tires were just gripping that mud and pulling away , the torque shows in the back tires
Lovely that was, bit of play in the old 814 but the old dear didn't let you down did she. I can remember going on an 812 from a Hymac 580D and the JCB felt like a bloody spaceship in comparison ..........Old man very happy, thanks mate!
We had an 814 and an 812 at A.P.Webb back when they were newish. I never thought of them as powerful machines. But it is nice to see one still working :o)
So were these. They were the sort of thing you’d see in the 70’s and 80’s. They Hymacs were even earlier than that. The 806 I drove was direct control, no servos.
the 814 was a workhorse but ive driven the js450 that was a beast but great fun to drive but be interesting to see if jcb would give the old 814 a bit of TLC as with jcb tinkering with it i can see the old 814 going on for many more years to come
I've just been watching one lonely (aka) WES farmer 4010 engine rebuild no 17 one of the best ie The daddy, in my opinion you tuber in the USA. He has mention/reviewed of your channel & likes it a lot just like me I came across yours by browsing around has you do on here fantastic place is sound & picture quality is right. I think you an your gang must be about the similar age to me, that's why relate to all the classic tractors. Anyway keep up the good work, stay safe & enjoy your day.
Excellent, I did try to get to speak to you at Lamma but there seemed to be a lot of people also attempting to speak to the tree of you at the same time! Love your videos!
The 6 cylinder js 220 with e m s dash was the best. I work for a j c b dealer them 6 cylinder engines do not go wrong 18000+ hrs. I think the machine in the video will have a 4hk engine t3 they where made before the jcb eco max was fitted. Good videos thanks.
We had a pair of 220's on long term hire with the 6 cylinders in and they were great old busses. The later ones with the 4cyl were nowhere near as good.
Quality something different looked great day yes farming very much up/down so stuff like mud runs great alternative money stream -u should do advert jcb world 😁
Hi Kurt I use to own a old priestman Mustang 160 back in the early nineties and she was getting on a bit then but the old girl wasn't work shy if you could keep up with bust pipes ect and hydraulic oil ! That old 814 looks a similar old girl to jockey .
I salute u trying to grade with that 814 never seen so much slap in the pins 😂😂 I drove one o the 220s with the 4 cylinder eco an it sounded like a bucket o bolts an was such a let down from the 220 fitted with the 6 pot ...
It was the best part of my life working with a js 330 and I now have my own jcb 3cx old but works I have bad ptsd and when I use my 3cx and I am in the cab concentrating life don't seem to bad the best part of life mate is working a 360 and you can't hear the other half moan my girl friend said to me it's me or that bloody digger I said I will take the digger it doesn't moan at me yes she left me yes I am over the moon I can consentrate on building a new farm with my family take care lord muck if you want any help at any time with history or specification of any tractor or. Machinery get in touch I have a vast library
Digging for Britain! Oh no, hang on, that's something else entirely. How involved would it be to remove the slack out of the old digger then, one assumes it's not just a line bore and some new pins?
Them later JS machine are just pure junk, The original JS, when they came out, was an awesome machine, Then JCB started to mess around with them and they turned into junk. Last JS I operated was a JS140 with the new windscreen set up, That was almost as nice as the original JS machine. Volvo or Hitachi would be my choice of machine but I am glad I am out of them for good now.
Billy Stephens we have a 08 is 130 pure scrap. No smooth at slew is dangerous sharp and is hard to buckets on even. And the boom doesn’t drop fast enough. Overall just bad
Big ol' cheesy grin when you got in that powerslide mate!👍
Listening to that ol' 6.354 barking out was pure music.

Great to have you here Jaimie, ramble on as much as you want mate 👍
Good video Kurt, by the smile on your face you enjoyed the 814, but I guess you wouldn't want to use it day in day out.
I'd happily sit on that all day every day for loading.
Lord Muck just watched Connor's video, so much play in the dipper arm, that old girl has seen a lot of work in her time.
That's the bit which surprised me because by rights she should also be work up and weak but it was as powerful as ever.
Nice video. Loved it. I was taught on an old 360° Hymac. By a good operator from Ireland. The smell of hydraulic fluid, antifreeze & diesel, it all gets tattooed into the mind. Loved it.
I'd like to have a play on an old Hymac again.
The different camera angles were cool.
It's nice to then see how Connor saw it from his angle.
I dug out the ground with a 814 for a mates swimming pool to be built recently and its amazing for a machine of its age how much power it still has I'm sure jcb still can repair these classic machines
Great job Kurt with the JCB excavator. While you're loading that dirt , I could use a load or two here...ha ha
Now on my way Lloyd !
Good video Kurt . Loved the part when he was going though the mudd and those tires were just gripping that mud and pulling away , the torque shows in the back tires
Yes I just noticed that too !
Lovely that was, bit of play in the old 814 but the old dear didn't let you down did she. I can remember going on an 812 from a Hymac 580D and the JCB felt like a bloody spaceship in comparison ..........Old man very happy, thanks mate!
Glad you liked it mate.
Tunnock time I reckon.
We had an 814 and an 812 at A.P.Webb back when they were newish. I never thought of them as powerful machines. But it is nice to see one still working :o)
Heck of a machine !
Poclain was the most powerful back in day apparently. We had one in my time and it still had woeful power. Rip up roots on one pass
Didn't have anything like this back when I was running heavy equipment. Wish we did as it looks like fun. Great video.
Back in the day These were one of the most popular machines apart from Hymac .
Lord Muck --Ha ha back in the day for me was in the late seventies and early eighties. It was work then.
So were these. They were the sort of thing you’d see in the 70’s and 80’s. They Hymacs were even earlier than that. The 806 I drove was direct control, no servos.
Lord Muck --Oh wow I didn't know that.
Great video mate, makes me want to play with the big boys toys lol
I'd be happy to spend more time on that 814 !
Good vid,enjoyed the digger action!
Too much of a machine for you Hawtrey.
I know I can only handle the teaspoon on the long reach😆
They were some animal those 814’s from jcbs glory days when they made stuff to last brilliant video 👍🏻
Good video kurt...good footage top job 👍
I have to say it was fun making it Will.
I bet mate....is that js220 ex Humphries demo of wisbech ?seen the photo on insta?
No idea, I'll ask Connor. She was tidy enough.
Doing a fine job. I like older iron. Much easier to work on.
And they have a soul Mike.
Somehow saw Connor’s video before this one though I was subscribed to you and not him - I’ve now rectified that - great channel he has 👍🏻
Yes he's got some interesting stuff on there and is adding to it all the while.
the 814 was a workhorse but ive driven the js450 that was a beast but great fun to drive but be interesting to see if jcb would give the old 814 a bit of TLC as with jcb tinkering with it i can see the old 814 going on for many more years to come
Love the sound of that Perkins.
Wes sent me over, from Minnesota, USA.... Thanks for sharing my friend....
Good to have you here Bill

Cheers Adrian, glad you’re enjoying it !
That 814 has seen better days but still gets the job done!
And with a lot more power than many modern machines.
I love the old Jcb's great machines imo if your into that sort of thing, also love the Hymacs
In fact if your on FB I run the Hymac Excavator group ;)
Be nice to see you over my way when the weather picks up
Let me know.
Smashing vid mate
Not a bad video I suppose... glad the old girl served you well, can tell by that massive grin on your face😄
Haha ! What a day ! I still can't get over how that 3640 just pulls away from idle.
Lord Muck I know right, I wonder that every time I drive her
Good video kurt! What is it you do for a living then, do you farm or construction work?
A mix of contracting and earthmoving with a couple of other bits on the go...
Excellent, I did try to get to speak to you at Lamma but there seemed to be a lot of people also attempting to speak to the tree of you at the same time! Love your videos!
Never be shy to come and speak to me or the others.
Let me know when you're at the next show and event and we'll have a cup of tea.
Certainly will do!
Hello from Onelonelyfarmer!
Good video you should arrange a dig off between the 814 and a newer 14 tonner
The 6 cylinder js 220 with e m s dash was the best. I work for a j c b dealer them 6 cylinder engines do not go wrong 18000+ hrs. I think the machine in the video will have a 4hk engine t3 they where made before the jcb eco max was fitted. Good videos thanks.

Again a super video 👍
Cheers !
Wes sends his best, us... Good to meet you.
Nice to have you here Roger
We ran an 814,and then an 814 Super, combined 25k hours,Super still going strong at my mates, moved onto a Volvo now
I bet that 814 will still be going in another 30 years time. Whether the dipper pins will have dropped out by then, who knows!!
Just weld another 2 feet onto them !
Nice video mate 👍
Found an abandoned 814 with the mono boom.
Is the 814 still running today mucker?
I still drive a JCB 820 my mates got one it still digs as good as a modern machine I've also done a alot of repairs to her...
Hello from Minnesota.
Quality something different looked great day yes farming very much up/down so stuff like mud runs great alternative money stream -u should do advert jcb world 😁
The mud runs are really going well !
Jasus you nearly looked like you knew what you were doing Kurt hehe😀😂
I was using the force Mickey !
Hi Kurt I use to own a old priestman Mustang 160 back in the early nineties and she was getting on a bit then but the old girl wasn't work shy if you could keep up with bust pipes ect and hydraulic oil ! That old 814 looks a similar old girl to jockey .
Priestman should have developed their machines more.
Would have been a top machine.
just had a look at a few of your vids after one lonley farmer said you have some great content i must say he was right love the old bedford
Cheers Eric, yes she’s a fair tool !
The Digger Driver, They call him the ‘Priest’ , Never missed a Service ! ⚡️ 💥 🤪 😆
Good to see old JCB 814 JCB not popular in New Zealand
Probably not many exported overseas Paul.
those are amazing machines,, it does look like your bucket support pins could use a little attention,, lol
"Auto level"....!!
The old 814 sounds like a fun machine. Roughly 20 tons?
They were more like 14 tons. They 820 was the 20 tonner.
I salute u trying to grade with that 814 never seen so much slap in the pins 😂😂 I drove one o the 220s with the 4 cylinder eco an it sounded like a bucket o bolts an was such a let down from the 220 fitted with the 6 pot ...
We’ve got the same digger
Loaded a few artics with woodchip with one of these. Had a grab on it.
I jockeyed one for a good while had the 220 for a few years both awesome yolks the info plate for 220 is out side cab near rams
Plenty of play in the pins on that bucket.
Thank you Isambard Kingdom Brunel 😂
It was the best part of my life working with a js 330 and I now have my own jcb 3cx old but works I have bad ptsd and when I use my 3cx and I am in the cab concentrating life don't seem to bad the best part of life mate is working a 360 and you can't hear the other half moan my girl friend said to me it's me or that bloody digger I said I will take the digger it doesn't moan at me yes she left me yes I am over the moon I can consentrate on building a new farm with my family take care lord muck if you want any help at any time with history or specification of any tractor or. Machinery get in touch I have a vast library
My fav all time apart from the Hitachi ex130
The EX130 has to be one of the all time greats.
Nice one kurt your smile said it all
I describe driving my old unimog u1000 like surfing a whale ha ha
Once you know how a machine behaves, you can drop into its pattern and get to work !
Great video Kurt! Liking the new camera angles👍
Glad you liked it Baily !
Digging for Britain! Oh no, hang on, that's something else entirely. How involved would it be to remove the slack out of the old digger then, one assumes it's not just a line bore and some new pins?
About 5 times what that old thing is worth. It's not like they're using it for batters and footings so it's not really an issue.
I drove 818 late 90s in belfast
It's got a loose bucket like a girl I used to know
ah memorys
"Shut up you" lol. Stupid alarms
She may have some age on er but she's still got some year's left..
lmao.. Just like me..Have a great week my friend..Take Care
Haha ! Still it's of life and power Cynthia !
Have a great week.
Is there much difference in a 812 compared to the 814 we found one for 6 grand and don’t know much about it
Mainly weight and power as I remember.
try a5c if uwant old school thats where i started
I hate that wobing bucket. Fix it up please
Them later JS machine are just pure junk, The original JS, when they came out, was an awesome machine, Then JCB started to mess around with them and they turned into junk. More slack in that 814 than my ex Mrs !!!!
Yes Bazza but probably done less hours...
Lord Muck probably more truth in that than you think aswell Lol 😅
