    • @illla
      @illla  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      If you are looking for parts for chain conversion for standard rear wheel Free Spirits did a Buell XB chain conversion kit before and I used some parts from their kit for my conversion but I do not see the kit on their website anymore. The most important part of the chain conversion is the Chain Idler and maybe Free Spirits Chain Idler can be found on eBay. The sprockets can be ordered from different places. If you can make front sprocket drawing or CAD model these guys can fabricate custom front sprocket for you www.superiorsprockets.com (they did front sprocket with offset for 240 wheel for me), maybe you can find a Harley Davidson Sportster front sprockets for 520 chain (Free Spirits Chain Idler is for 520 chain) can fit Buell XB, but check offset and amount of teeth you need. Rear sprocket is the easiest part, for instance Vortex makes rear sprockets for Buell XB www.vortexracing.com/product-category/rear-sprockets/ and you can buy those everywhere (Amazon, eBay, etc.), or for instance it can be custom made here rebelgears.com, again figure out the sizes you need. Chain can be bought everywhere (Amazon, eBay, etc.), just figure out the length and width of the chain you need and tools to trim and to install the chain.
      You may also can try to contact these guys about chain conversion www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?mc=1&aid=1770&cid=0&s=

    A price break down would be interesting.

    • @illla
      @illla  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      I did not calculate it and did not capture the prices carefully. If I remember correct the most expensive pars are the 3D printed seat (maybe around $1500) and the CNC machined sub-frame parts (maybe $1000). Another miscellaneous parts are maybe $1000-2000. But the most expensive portion of the project is the time I spent on it (If I would do this for living it would be my full time work for maybe 6-9 months and $40000-60000 of labor). Basically it is cheaper to do your regular work overtime and buy any factory produced motorcycle you like the most on the money you earned working overtime.

    I own the 2005 model year of Buell xb12s. I want to change the actuator to a chain.
    I wonder if buying a transmission sprocket drive kit for the sportster can drive on a chain like your motorcycle.

    • @illla
      @illla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I am not familiar with sportster sprocket drive kit, so I do not know if it will work. One of the important part of the chain conversion is chain tensioner and I'm sure the sportster sprocket drive kit does not have chain tensioner. The only plug and play chain conversion kit designed specifically for Buell XB I know is Free Spirits Buell XB chain conversion kit and this is the one I used as the base for my modification.

    Do you still live in Seattle? I live here and would love / appreciate having some help / guidance building a custom buell as well

    • @illla
      @illla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +2

      I still live in Seattle. I'm pretty busy so I'm not sure I can provide active guidance. You can create your threat on badweatherbikers.com forum in "XBoard" about your build and get help there. I visit this forum sometimes too and I can answer your questions there too. The forum is the best way to keep your project tracking and documenting so you can get help the most efficient way.
      You have to decide how deep you wish to customize your motorcycle because of it is not only time consuming, but also requires a lot of money to be put into the project. Sometimes It is just cheaper to buy a high end motorcycle you like in it's stock form. For instance if I would totally destroyed my Buell I would not buy a new one to customize it again, even I already knew how it should be done, I would just buy something different and would not customize it at all.
      Usually when people ask help to customize their motorcycle/car they do not have skills, tools, knowledge, time and enough passion to do this work at all and this is pretty big issue too besides the fact it can be unsafe.
      Buells are also quite quirky motorcycles and customizing them may turn the project to a nightmare if you are not mechanically inclined or if you do not know how to troubleshoot it. Even I do not know completely how to fix some Buell issues other way than just replacing a bunch of parts hoping it will fix the problem, I already fixed some Buell issues this way and it is not the cheap way to get it works properly.

    • @illla
      @illla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      @@BellaFPSF Unfortunately I can not do this. There is a lot of time consuming work involved in it and I do not do money on this work, this is just a single hobby project. The 3D printed seat is not the difficult part. You have to CNC machine the new seat subframe parts, you have to 3D print not only the seat but also new electric components housing located inside the airbox and assemble it, and you have to completely rebuild the wiring harness. If you can do this work by yourself you can read my thread carefully (see the link in the description), I shared the process details and the CAD models, so you can contact the companies who can do those parts for you (I posted all the links of those companies in my thread) and start the work.

    Info on the chain conversion? I would really like to chain convert mine

    • @illla
      @illla  ปีที่แล้ว

      Some parts for my conversion (the rear sprocket and some tensioner parts) are from the the Free Spirit chain conversion kit. But they do not produce it anymore.
      www.twinmotorcycles.nl/webshop/artikel.asp?mc=1&cid=163&aid=2456&title=Buell-XB-chain-race-conversion-kit
      The front sprocket is custom sprocket with offset produced by superiorsprockets.com on my specifications (I do not know if they are still in business though, their website does not work anymore).

      This motorcycle is not tall for 5 6 person (Buell XB Scg version). Scg version has lover suspension and it fits good for 5 6 person.

    Hi, do the wheels need machining? Or does a different bike fit?

    • @illla
      @illla  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      The rear wheel needs widening (machining to trim and welding new flanges), rear sprocket spacer, custom front sprocket, custom chain tensioner and chain.

    Is that subframe 3dprinted?

    • @illla
      @illla  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      The subframe is CNC machined aluminum and stainless steel parts structure. You can not see the subframe on this video, the subframe is inside the seat (seat slides over the subframe). There are some 3D printed components attached to the subframe but those are not structural parts of the subframe. The seat is 3D printed part.
