Very nice car! This will certainly be the best selling Lotus ever. The "Korean siesta" is due to battery recalibration, by shortly interrupting the charge (or throttle to a low value) the SOC can be recalibrated based on the voltage response during the throttling. If you don't do that, there is a risk that at 100%, it might actually be at 97% or also 103%. The BMU estimates the SOC during charging based on the current but it's more exact if a recalibration is done during the charge.

The left side is the right side if the charging port is near the rear, but if port is near the *front* then the right side is the right side. This way, charge cable can reach easily from a standard charging stall layout regardless of nose-in-stall or rear-in-stall vehicle orientation.

After test driving the Lotus 38km’s back and forth on the highway between 120 and 130km/h and doing the same lab with the iX … I’m probably going to cancel my pre order, the iX is as good, but the consumption is horrible for the Lotus, 29kwh/100km versus 24 for the BMW. Granted the Lotus had 23 inch wheels, but it had the camera mirrors (my iX has 22inch) Overall it’s a good car, but not better than the iX, the Kef sound system needs some work, no EQ and very bass heavy. Yes it charges fast, if you find the wright charger, it started at 250kw even at low 4% but then a noob used the second plug, even though there was another stall completely empty and the speed dropped to 125 … (not 150 which I would expect from a 300kw charger) Was planning to go EV only, but the high consumption is putting me of.

Apparently you think you know everything about the mind of Colin Chapman...
There's only one thing left of Lotus on this car: the logo.
This machine is the opposite of his work and production. Lotus has never been a manufacturer of flashy luxury cars. Geely bought a name and a logo to put on its cars, as was already done for MG. Where are these cars designed, developed and manufactured? In China, not in the UK. There is certainly not a single Colin Chapman collaborator who ever participated in the genesis of this soulless Frankenstein monster. It's all pure marketing to saturate all vehicle ranges with made-in-China products. Just because it has a Lotus logo, you see it as a British production. But this logo only serves to attract wealthy, uneducated consumers, who want a vehicle with status, which must make the neighbors look good. You can badge this car Maserati, Volvo, or whatever, it'll still be the same soulless product.

Why do people say by Lotus and Geely and not just by Lotus? Do we say great job by Lamborghini and Volkswagen? Or Rolls Royce and BMW? Or Range Rover and Tata? It's by Lotus. Geely does financing but they're the parent company. This is still the Lotus company responsible for this car. Geely Auto cars won't operate like this car.

@@benjaminsmith2287 Correct me if I'm wrong, in addition to the design, the main body and its structure of this car were both designed and manufactured by Geely at their factory in China.

    • @benjaminsmith2287

@@tedhansolo It wasn't designed by Geely. Geely doesn't design cars for their brands. Their brands design their cars. Geely provides funding and works with brands on some tech and a platform (which the brands can them modify to their own spec, sometimes heavily modify). That's all. The brands are more autonomous than people think they are. A lot of Lotus DNA or at least engineering goes into Lotus. Same with Volvo/Polestar. It's not coming out of Geely who designs Geely Auto cars and some of their Chinese market brands, not so much their international, European brands.
The excellent thing about Geely is they don't "take over" the brands. Where this impression comes from some people express is beyond me.

I’ve had a look at it and the basic Eletre might be interesting. Same price as a polestar 3, just within budget. Curious about the interior for that version.

Piss-poor charge port placement for supercharger compatibility, far too long at 5.1 meters and 276Wh/km is too inefficient for my liking, but I gotta say, Geely has BALLS to offer this design with such a big battery in this price segment!

I like it in yellow and green from the outside. Inside dayum nice interior. But that price: understandable for a Lotus yet it will be not for many people I guess. Fun to see Dutch plates at the event.

This car is beautiful but the charging port placement is the one thing which is killing me. Why not the same place as other Geely group vehicles like Volvos and Polestars left rear

So if this makes it’s way to the US I suppose it won’t have the side view cameras, but looking at them I don’t get it. They look small and I know I wouldn’t be able to see what I need to see clearly. I’m also not a fan of the tiny instrument cluster. I think that’s a cost cutting design on the Tesla and competitors are better off not imitating it. Better to have certain information right in front of you and have other information separated on a different screen. Two screens is better than one I say.
