I have known these guys since the early 80s as are from my hometown. One of the first band to turn to crowdfunding in the 90s. This is the royal Albert hall in london built in the 1800s. Hosts many great events is a beautiful venue and has a huge church organ above the stage.

They are THE BAND that started crowdfunding in its current guise, firstly for their US tour as they had no major record deal and then, a couple of albums later they really pushed the boat out for their 12th album Anoraknophobia. PS Hope all is well in Aylesbury :)

Worth every minute and penny spent. Friday night concert featuring a full album+++, Saturday am 5k run with Mark Kelly (keyboardist), Saturday afternoon the band splits up and plays with different bands at local pubs pub crawl, Saturday evening "A-Z" concert, Sunday afternoon "Swap The Band" where amateur musicians fill in one at a time and play a Marillion song with the band in front of 3k fans, Sunday evening full concert. Monday is a day to rest or get back home!!!

Marillion has a wide variety of songs, but few that "rawk". Maybe more rockers in the pre-Hogarth ear back in the '80's. Hard to cubbyhole them, but generally they are deemed by most to fall into the "symphonic prog" category. They are rarely trying to get you to jump out of your seat and dance, and most of their songs, even the ones that do rock, rock somewhat sedately. Also, they have many epic, long songs containing lots of dynamics, with slow quiet spots, and viciuos, loud, fast parts, too. Overally, their main songwriting goal is to touch your heart, a strategy that lends itself very well to Steve Hogarth's amaziing ability to convey feelings with his marvelous voice. One final point I'd like to emphasize is that you cannot come close to appreciating the magic of Marillion without careful attention to the meaning of the lyrics. Easter, for example, is a remembrance of the "time of troubles" when the Brits and the IRA were openly killing each other over ownership of Northern Ireland. Anti-war is a recurrent theme in Marillion's music, as are the romantic problems of middle-aged people, which is a refreshing change from most popular music which speaks only about teenagers' love lives. They also write about some very odd topics, maybe to try and understand emotional obsessions. My very favorite song is "Ocean Cloud", the story of Sir Donald Allum, who single-handedly rowed across the Atlantic Ocean, then back again, twice. That's not your normal subject for a song. th-cam.com/video/OmBrn_qwtds/w-d-xo.html.
As far as I know, no reactor has yet reacted to "A Few Words for the Dead", an anti-war song with some big transitions. I might be nice to check them out without the classical musicians who accompanied them for half the RAH concert. th-cam.com/video/EKObxu4xRbg/w-d-xo.html

Great song, hadn’t seen this performance before. Would like to see what you think of some older Marillion with Fish singing, maybe Blind Curve. Will try and remember to list this on your requests video!
