Years ago I switched to Studio One Pro (3 at that time). One of the things that drove me nuts on my previous DAW was file handling. Studio Pro helped save my sanity!
THANK YOU SO MUCH!!! I was about to re-org everything from my 100's of folders where my samples are located, to all of my projects. Still will take some time, but now I know NOT to re-org the sample folder's first (as I never used the copy external files feature). I had issues before trying to re-locate the files so many times. So now, I'll manually do the "dirty work" to organize my projects first by opening said projects, and then use the external files feature in place each project in the right location. Then re-org my sample folders. Thanks again!
GREAT video. This is EXACTLY the BEST way to do efficient file management in Studio One. Don't try to fight it. Do it the way it was designed and you will pretty much NEVER see the missing files error dialog. I have not seen it in 11 years of use.
Ok, file management...why can we not set Studio One to overwrite an existing mixdown file?? This is one of the most frustrating things about it. And, being a software developer for more than 35 years, I KNOW this is not hard! There could be an option for it, that would mean it works as it does now, if turned off, so why not give me the choice? I do not want a new file with an incremented numbers added to the name.
Thanks Joe. Nice video. One thing that would be nice would be to have the artist profile information used to create the default directory and location for new songs. It would automatically force a consistency in the data management. A bit like the Capture software automatically creates the recording directory structure based on artist name, location etc.
Great video Joe. Unless I missed it I don't think you mentioned you have to check the box in options "ask to copy external files..." Studio One won't do it unless this box is check. Box should be checked by default in my opinion.
Hi Joe, what is the way to go if you have a 3 hour live recording with many songs? So a “song” with 3 hours. What is the best way to proceed in this case? I'm on Version 7 btw. Many thanks for a tip and best regards. Freddy
There are bugs. I have lost files and finally figured out that when permanently deleting unused files, S1 sometimes erroneously links from a project, to files in another project, thus they are not actually used in the current project, and subsequently deleted in the clean up process.
Disaster .... Someone offered to do some house keeping on my ST1 files and now lost the pathways to EVERYTHING . All the files are separated in different folders and I have no idea what to do or fix it. I am talking about everything I have ever done is messed up... I am new to st1
Did Gregor catch you doing something in "almost but not quite the most efficient possible way" and it inspired him to write a song called "End of the World for Joe" and send it to you?
I just spent hours relocating wav files into my existing songs I had moved. Grrr Can I take existing songs and save all the corresponding wav files to a single folder? BTW, love your channel Joe!
i will be so happy when i will move to another DAW, big mistake with presonus studio one professional , and pay for a lot of money for it and the upgrades that don't justify that Studio one professional just got halfed in price. It's a scam and i can't even sell the license . Big down big hit from this company. Never mind losing the projects and project files with weird questions when you create a copy of a project, the way this DAW works is abnormal for sure. In winter sale i say byebye to studio one :) Adios muchachos!

you can do alot of that organization in studio one via the songs tab, example: create and move projects all within studio one

S1 6.6.2 doesn't have new features??
It doesn't if you brought all the Extras before hand
v6.6.2 is a maintenance release to fix bugs and other issues. It is not meant for adding of major new features. V.6.6.0 did that.
