    You know, this video is a lot more than just a mini camper build. Its about a motivated young man, who thoughoughly enjoys the process of the build, AND the results of his hard work. His pure joy and delight at simple pleasures is nice to see. I hope we can all take a leaf from his book.

      @QuietNerd For the battery, you could add a thermometer that automatically breaks the charging circuit if the battery is too cold. The battery shouldn't get too cold if you're continuously drawing current from it.

    • @KenjiFox
      @KenjiFox 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      @@QuietNerd That's a high end battery. It will almost certainly have low and high voltage protection, as well as low and high temperature protections in the BMS. If it doesn't have low temp cutoff for the charging mosfets, just put some nice insulation around the battery in your box. The battery will generate lots of warmth when under load, and has lots of thermal mass. The charge controller should have low temp charge protection with a built in temp sensor too in that case.
      Use flexible solar panels as they weigh like 20% of a glass and metal rigid one. MPPT would be highly valuable since the panels will be fixed angle.

    Some friendly advice, from a joiner (Carpenter to the other side of the pond folks 😂) while there was nothing specifically wrong with the build - for the walls, I'd recommend weatherboards, they're manufactured with tongue and groves to click together seamlessly this means that water doesn't get into the joins between your wall and runs down the side and off your vehicle. Water sitting in those gaps will rot it quickly.

    • @frundlemud
      @frundlemud 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +7

      Butt joints shrink and as you said are not weatherproof also may become draughty. The basic idea is good.

    • @ElectricBillAlbright
      @ElectricBillAlbright 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +8

      Going on that idea, I was thinking of those simulated wood flooring planks. They have a rather precision tongue and groove that "clicks" into position. You could apply a small bead of silicone sealant across the groove just before installing them. Using these, I thought it would be less weight. One time, a friend had given me a few boxes of them left over from a remodeling. I used them to panel the inside walls of an old travel trailer that I use as a tool shed / workshop. An air nailer with slight head brads works great for attaching them without much noticing of the fasteners. 👍👍👍

      He shouldn't need to redo the whole thing for that, he just needs to seal it better and he can do that by adding siding to it then I would go ahead and seal the inside with some insulation panels and then painted over with some light brown paint to match the inside wood. There's no reason he can't still use what he already has but there is always room for improvement.

    *Might I suggest a 3-4 inch lift and a single leafspring suspension on each side. Both front and back. Giving the front and rear axles a chance to avsorb the dips and bumps from side to side, rather than bouncing around so much. Clearance is clearly important as well.* 👍

    I can not tell you how amazing this drive-able shed is!!! It makes me smile every time I watch you driving it along!!! Way to go!!!
    However, one point: I might not be seeing accurately, but it looks like your front tires might be installed backwards. Which means the treads are facing the wrong way and not being useful at all through the snow.
    Yet, it is extremely impressive how well it managed to slug through the deep snow!!

    Add 4 wheeler tires, likely bounce less, much much more traction and you'll ride higher on snow. Motors won't strain as much. Also you can add a small fan/vent blowing out at that space you covered with tarp over the door. Turn it on when cooking it will rid alot of that condensation buildup inside. One more thing, young man, your a freaking genius

    Your camper content is incredibly refreshing. I'm so used to seeing $100k sprinter van conversions get so much attention for camping, they almost make it seem essential. My suggestion would be solar panels on each side of the roof if needing the extra power. Maybe instead of tarp you could use some waterproof vinyl fabric for the 'roofing' and then stitch the solar panels on top of it. There are videos of people doing that on boat bimini tops. I do live in south florida though so i'm not familiar with how that fabric would do in snowy weather, but it handles wind very well. Maybe not needed for short camping trips though. Other comments have also already mentioned some kind of fan/vent for the condensation or however you call it that your breathing indoors makes. Keep up the amazing videos, I look forward to them!

    Hi Jason. I recently found your channel and you have quickly become one of my favorite creators. I really enjoy the creativity in your builds. I have already found myself looking forward to your uploads to see what you come up with next.
    Since you asked for suggestions for future builds, here's my list of things I would like to see you tackle:
    1. Insulation. You woke up to a chilly 25 degree morning, but an insulated camper would hold in more heat overnight. I think this would be a nice upgrade to any camper build and a big quality of life upgrade for winter camping. Note: a two layer window with a small gap of air between layers will hold in heat better than a single layer window.
    2. Suspension system. Don't know if this one is possible, but might be doable with some heavy duty springs. It would be cool to see if you can tackle this.
    3. Ventilation. Vents could help with your humidity/window fogging problem as well as reduce concerns about carbon monoxide.
    4. Lighting. Orange or yellow cellophane covers for lights will mimic a campfire and makes for a more cozy experience.
    5. Metroid Prime is my favorite gamecube game for the exploration, puzzle solving, and cool aliens. I suggest trying it if you haven't yet!

    I suggest bungee cords, Squeegie, and micro towels to help wipe down the windows with little to no smearing. Did you know they make chains for your size tires? That could help grip the snow and ice. If that sleeping bag has a bottom zipper keep the heated blanket feet and legs. You can keep it low and still be warm. Less is more. Too many clothes in a sleeping bag won't help keep you warm, but hold moisture and make you colder. A head cover for sleeping works better. Balance out your load. Help keep your buggy from bouncing so much and help distribute the weight equally on your power wheels. Like I said it's just suggestions.

    Honestly, I wondered about people building mini campers like these, only having them pulled around with a Bike instead. But having a whole Motor system already for it like that is just kind of incredible! One could definitely survive decently with that and a good bit of supplies.

    #1: I love how this thing looks like a happy little pug jumping through the snow on your way to the camp site.
    #2: playing this for my 2 year old at bed time because you are just so damn calm it makes everyone feel better.
    #3: hit those front windows with a heat gun. They'll tighten up like a drum and probably make visibility a little better.
    #4: love your videos. You just seem like my kinda guy.
    #5: keep being awesome.

    Dear Mr. Nerd, please do not forget that when building architecture, triangles are always the strongest shape. I don't think your roof is in danger of collapsing but diagonal struts supporting the roof would have been optimal.
    I love this thing. I only wish the camping parts of your videos were longer.

    Love it...
    Some suggestions..
    Definitely bigger wheels, like wheel barrow wheels.
    Headlights also, it will add to the "submersable" feel of it.
    You should try tracks, like a bulldozer, or maybe have a half track, they go faster and more maneuverable.
    Also - you should get the back door to open upwards, so it will make a little covered porch area when you open it up. You could even make a deployable set of tarp walls, but thats more a summer thing.

    • @ElysetheEevee
      @ElysetheEevee 10 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      He made the original motor to work for a specific range of sizes/specific types of wheel. Just like on a combustion-powered vehicle (passenger cars, mainly), you can't stray outside of a certain range of sizes in wheels or your engine uses far more to power everything with even more actual power loss. You'd lose more than you gain, essentially. This is why they need to upgrade systems if you have a truck you want to jack up, since you'll need much larger wheels, typically both in height and width.
      On most vehicles, you'd have to modify the suspension, drivetrain, and possibly the engine in order to accommodate much, much larger wheels. He'd probably end up needing a lot more power to get several inches larger in diameter for wheels. I can't tell you specifics since I've never worked with such small systems, but this is just the general rule.

      Yea I need some bigger wheels! maby some chains on them. I might try some larger tracks again but I'm worried it would be to heavy for them and rip. Ill think about it all Thanks for the suggestions - Cheers!

    You could also put a plastic V shaped snowplow on the front of it to go through the snow easier. Like train engines use only very light weight.

    Points to improve upon:
    1. make all membranes (tarp, vynil) double-layered, the layer of air between the two sheets could help with heat retention.
    2. insulation for the walls and roof - add some sort of foam or fibrous insulation to prevent heat from escaping through these parts.
    3. suspension - create a suspension system to raise the vehicle from the ground and reduce the amount of bouncing around.
    4. - bonus - snowplow.
    Additional good things - add an awning for an extendable roof on the side for an improvised porch, good for when you want to do some campfire cooking.
    Another is - create a trailer.
    It could be used to haul extra gear, or even for a field shower.

      I was going to suggest myself some insulation board that would be easy to cut to size, could also cut sheets to fit in where the vinyl windows are,then remove when needed. Love the build!!!❤

    Make the top collapsable, add solar, add small wood stove. Make the bottom a full kitchen. Add a tent extension on the back so then you can have a “bathroom area” with a camp toilet and a portable shower. This way, all the bases are covered and you’re putting less stress on your electrical equipment.
