Aiden Pearce , Niko Belloc and Wei Shen are some of the best open world protagonists and they don’t constantly make stupid jokes every min . These were characters built for dark storylines . Not every good character has to be funny. People complained about Aiden’s personality but he has the same personality as Batman. Serious, sad backstory losing family , protecting the weak , targeting criminals. The only difference between Aiden and Batman is that Aiden kills . Yet Batman is cool but Aiden isn’t. This shows you how people can be influenced by critics .
Hot take: Aiden isn't as bad a protagonist as everyone said he was. The game came out during a time when edgy protagonists were constantly being ripped on.

People seem to forget that Aiden cracks jokes all throughout the story, he just has a snarky, dry sense of humor. He is still a dark character crafted for a dark story, but he's still human

I very much agree with you, got this game a few months ago on my modded Wii U played it and loved so much I beat the whole story mode and bought Watch Dogs 2 on Xbox Later after then I read peoples thoughts and opinions about Watch Dogs 1 and most of all be negative all I could think to myself is How could a game this good be so hated.

Watch Dogs 2 was a lighter tone, but I find Legion to be pretty dark. It's a dystopian, cyberpunk nightmare, and even the perky Bagley character who helps you through the game turns out to be a deeply tragic figure. There is a lot of really dark, fucked up shit in Legion.
One of my Top 5 games...The story-characters, the gameplay, the tone... After playing various third person shooters, Watch Dogs gunplay is still my favourite. And the minigames....the ones like the spider robot could be made standalone. Loved the reputation meter and how it affects the gameplay. A shame the game got this much hate....
The only thing I hate, is that the slide/ action only works on pistols on the PlayStation version. Sadly I have an Xbox one. So basically the gunplay is better/ more realistic on ps3
I really liked this game. I had the foresight to know this was a new IP, and was laying the foundation to build on with later games. The screw-up was showing an early demo at Pax West that had completely different mechanics in it.
i heard that (atleast from graphics perspective) it was dialed down so it would run good on console. There's actually a way to bring back the pax graphics or close to them (if i remember corectly).

Yeah if they'd just shown more representative footage it would've had a significantly warmer reception imo. Same with No Man's Sky, they just overpromised with what people would be playing on release. The upside is that I feel like most companies these days are much more wary with what they put out there in terms of gameplay footage.

The crime/vigilante system was cool as shit in this number 1, I remember stalking the criminals and then chasing them to just beat them down . Shit was great
As a concept, this game is /super/ interesting, the idea of a vigilante being able to control an entire city with his fingertips is something that can and I think has happened before and it's a shame what this series turned into.

Most people remember this game from the media's perspective of it, which is typically never a good thing, aside from the comparisons to their promises of the game and what the game actually turned out to be, Watch Dogs was an incredible story and experience in my opinion. Aiden Pearce is still one of my favorite protagonists.

Watch Dogs 1 is so good, the fact that modders are active on the game and there's *still* a community just shows how underrated it is, yeah it may have some flaws but it's amazing.
While you're talking at 10:12 about how there's still some good people left in society, I love the fact that it switches to his police record and says that he's wanted for money laundering, going to court for hate crimes and on bail for forgery.
One thing that everyone misses out about this game is that it has *one of the best soundtrack that anyone can find in a videogame* . I had made a seperate playlist of the songs of watch dogs 1 on youtube few years back & I still listen to it. Few songs like 'My brain hurts' , 'When I grow old' , 'On & on' & few others I love it to this day.
Honestly think the first game is the best out of the three since the gunplay and stealth in the second wasn't as good. Also think Aiden is an interesting character. Find it a little irritating when people just think he's boring since he's not very emotive and upbeat. Jordi is also a pretty fun foil to Aiden. Like that most interactions with Jordi basically boils down to "Jordi what the fuck" in one way or another.
Agreed, aiden and jordi really reminds me of the duo of characters in the Judgement series, the new take on the yakuza game series , and we got the jokes but also someone to be serious about shit, in the second one these kids were murdering countless barely bad people and who they were in cutscenes made no sense, Aiden is a serious guy who was believably cold, or at least miles more than a lot of game protagonists doing similar to what he does
The gunplay....Watch Dogs was the first modern game I played and when I came back to it after playing various TPS games...still, no other game could beat WD's gunplay for me. About WD2, I quit the game because of the boring gunplay and camera angle.

Aiden is like a god for anyone that likes a well-made "dark" main character. He ain't flashy, doesn't have superpowers or cool weapons, he doesnt have a fun quirky personality or anything like that. I loved Marcus from WD2 because he really suited the game but Aiden is great too, maybe even better
I say having the entire city infrastructure at your fingertips is a pretty insane weapon. He can also hold an entire weapons arsenal in his back pocket, but I think that's fun, the combat in this game is really solid
I love the first two Watch Dogs so much, especially the first one for its location which is my home Chicago. My favorite city on earth. I haven’t played the third game yet but it looks VERY disappointing. (Side note: People greatly exaggerate the graphical downgrade of the first game. The game just got blacklisted for no reason.)
I think Legion is a unique game. I like the location, but it isn't a great Watch Dogs game. Due to the play as everyone mechanic, the story isn't good.

Last year I was roaming around in the game wanting to get some nice photos, I’m a photographer and I just had to work with what I was given (there’s no photo mode), and I think I tried to clear up the hud and from what I remember there wasn’t an option.

Watch Dogs 2 is also underated as fuck. WD2 has no hipstars they are accurate written nerds. How are charactors like Wrench, Josh and Marcus (who is literly a comic, manga and tech freak) hipsters? They are nerds, and the story itself was about these great charactors and how a group of nerds can take down the large and bad indusrties and their secrets while having fun cause they love doing what they do...well hacking. Such a cool way to show people whats actually going on in the world, while still beeing hell as fun and realistic/grounded.

To be honest, WD2's story felt more compelling to me. At surface, characters look cringe-fest hipsters but they all get serious and mature when it is the time to be so.

Aiden is truly one of the most relatable and humanizing characters I’ve ever gotten to know back when watch dogs came out which does make him feel so real and compelling base off his character arch. His realism does makes me feel sympathetic for him.
As a guy who was born in the edgy era and still edgy I loved this game so much, dark and full of sorrow and hatred, it is forever part of who I'm today and even if Ubisoft is a trash company I like the game a lot.
The story and characters in this game were incredible, this is a case of people shitting on all the good parts of the game just because other parts failed to meet expectations and content was cut, I wish that all the cut content was included since it expanded on the characters more and made the story longer and more in depth but it’s still pretty strong at least imo

3 is the worst one, repetitive generic ubisoft with 1 cool idea of recruitment that is a detriment to the games story and any form of character building. 2 was actually decent gameplay wise, some really cool ideas and missions in 2, the characters were okay and the story was not the best but a decent attempt. 1 is definitely the best though.
Bloodline was decent since we have the perspectives of Aiden and Wrench (my favourite WD2 character) but you have to spend like… $20 or something for that. :(
I played Watch Dogs for the first time about a year ago and literally had the best time. I only found out it was controversial after I played it and I'm really glad about that, because otherwise I might not have ever picked it up
Watch Dogs 1 was pretty awesome....dark, gritty and cold. It portayed some real life criminal underbelly business like human trafficking and that girls auction scene was shockingly cold. Aiden Pearce himself a shady character type of anti hero who doesn't hesitate stealing innocent people's money and killed a lot of people in his quest for vendetta. Overall great voice acting, awesome soundtrack, nice graphics, and an intense storyline. I give it 8/10.
The prologue mission is very memorable for me. And it has a better feel to it when playing the second time. I love the stealth and action in this game!
one of the first games I ever played, and I love it, nevertheless I find it ironic how 2014 was bad for Ubisoft games, when they started to chase money rather then quality I like the tone and story, characters, setting, but I do agree that physics and technical stuff messed up And personally I find Aiden a good classical protagonist we saw not once but still working
I remember getting all the trophies for this game, such a good fun time but I do also think it deserves a lot of its criticisms. The story never grabbed my attention but the open world activities and interactions were the highlight of the game. I'd say WD 2 is the peak for the series.

@@GalacticRat3541 the thing is that WD tried to be dark and deep but it wasn't, it never came of as genuine and that's probably cuz we never really learn about Aiden's relationship with his family or his interpersonal issues. It's more straightforward and surface level than any of that.

I played this game for the first time a few years ago and I ended up loving it. Reminded me of Enemy of the State. There's even aspects I like more than GTA. Definitely underappreciated.

The online hacking can be pretty fun if they don’t use any explosives or guns and instead chase you down with a baton. blackouts and using the environment to get away
Best thing about this game is that playing as Aiden Pearce legitimately felt like being a vigilante superhero. Aiden is pretty much Batman without the suit and cape.
The first Watchdogs has pretty amazing atmosphere. That Chicago underworld ,vigilante, near cyberpunk, John Wick vibe is cool. Infact I play I it in a "controlled chaos" john wick style, slo mo, using quick hacks, being flashy. Has alot of things Cyberpunk 2077 shouldve had, but I think ppl will look back on that game too the same way given enough time. I wish ubisoft wasn't allergic to sticking with characters. Aiden may seem generic but he actually has a lot of depth and the story brings up alot of hard questions and themes, especially if you find all the audio logs. Maybe the story be better as a graphic novel cause it does feel like one. But yea the serious tone is something ubisoft could never do today. Just look at the sequels,way to wacky to the point it feels more generic. Legion is only good if I play the whole game as Aiden, its sooo good in that case.
I think studios should start making games in Chicago and other cities. it would be new and change up the LA like cites and New York ,they just get overused now to where it gets dry.

I always loved this game! It's in my top 5. I never understood the hate. Then again, I somehow missed all of the hype leading up to it and only found out about it a few years after it came out, so I didn't have the incredibly high expectations that everyone else had. One of my fave things to do in this game is run around visiting all of the famous Chicago locations!
I'd say the main reason this game got hate is due to them dumbing down the graphics. Consider it false advertising. The trailers for the game looked 2x better than the actual gameplay itself. Never the less, this is easily one of the most underrated games of all time for sure. I had a blast playing this despite the false ads they gave off.
It's because of the downgrades in the graphics. The trailers showed the game looking far better than the final release. People hated it because Ubisoft lied to them we didn't get what was advertised

One thing I wish this game was is a little more... I guess "honest" is the word, with it's main character. Aiden is clearly deranged and while the story kinda points that out it also treats him as a heroic figure. And it doesn't help that the realism of the game makes this more noticeable. Also I do like how the game basically implemented social stealth for cars. It genuinely amazes me, it's really cool.
I always say that Watchdogs, the idea, should've been made by another studio because it's been absolutely wasted in Ubisoft's hands. Maybe a Rockstar or Naughtydog or some studio like that, couldve actually kept the theme and story more consistent and like you said honest. Cyberpunk 2077 actually comes pretty close story wise and while I Love Cyberpunk even with its many faults, Watchdogs 1 had alot of things that 2077 shouldve had and at times feels more cyberpunky. Watchdogs feels like it shouldve been a graphic novel series rather than a game imo.
Aiden Pierce was an icon of mine back in 2015-2016 when I got my PS4 and became obsessed with Watch Dogs 1 and AC:Unity. Been replaying both of those games for the past 7 years now. Everyone hates on Watch Dogs 1 but I fucking love it. Aiden is modern Batman, and the game is dark and gritty. But the game actually does have a lot of funny moments. Aiden himself is very fucking stoic and takes everything, rarely losing cool. Talking to himself and mentally preparing himself before missions. He’s such a cool, brooding character. But he’s also pretty whimsical in his own way. I also grew up in Chicago/Suburbs so the game hits me there too. Watch Dogs 1 will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. I love seeing people see the good in this game. It definitely has its faults, but it hits.
I remember people mainly complaining about there not being enough hacking and the initial Ubisoft visual downgrade. The vehicles were not fun to drive either. But aside from that I really loved the game. The concept was unique enough and the story was fine. I did like Aiden Pearce because at least he felt human. His character made sense in the universe he was in and what his motives were. People trashed on grim games in early 2010s... And personally, I feel like the campaigns hit harder. Halo, TLoU, Resident Evil, Dead Space, Heavy Rain, BF4, Most older CODs, AC, and even NFS (the list goes on). The Crew 1 had a similar atmosphere where things were a bit darker then necessary. But I do like that. See, the problem I have now is I almost can't take any characters seriously in games like these. A game can be gritty and still have it's funny moments. Assassin's Creed use to do it well. Now you look at BF, characters are happy after killing thousands of soldiers. The Crew 2 and Forza Horizon has the same "Be famous and earn followers" thingy going on that takes any possible depth away. Burnout, for example had no real "story", it was meant to be a fun arcade racing game. But if you looked into it it was brutal. The sound design alone of Takedown gives chills. But it's not serious, you jump into traffic and detonate to deal as much damage as possible. The protagonist doesn't have to be an edge lord like Kirito, he can still be funny, dumb or anything. But now it's just bad jokes after bad jokes. Characters feel 2D because their only mood is ADHD and 75% (math checks out) of characters are the same if not for different interests. But what am I saying, nowadays games like Halo have no blood or friendly fire and the enemy's goal is to die a great death.
The only thing this game failed on imo is following through. I have written an entire essay on how i would perfect what this game started and how i would implement it in a future watch dogs 4. This franchise can be amazing with enough time and a team of developers with the same love and passion that the fans have.
Watch Dogs is a top 2 favorite open world games for me in the last 10 years. I really wish they had kept the series going like this. I liked how dark it was compared to watch dogs 2
I’m actually a big fan of the watch dog series! 2 is probably my least favourite but definitely has some great things like the smooth traversal system. I just loved the first game, and being able to play as Aiden in the main campaign of watch dogs 3 was really cool
The invasion mode was fun I would play it normally at times but other times I would frequently pause my game while playing in the open world to see if someone invaded me then I would just race around the city watching them try to catch up from behind lmao. It was fun.
The thing i like about Aiden being edgy is that there's a support character who balances Aiden's edginess and that is Jordi. Aiden always seem cautios around him while he doesn't give a single shit about the things Aiden asks him to
I love so much how they integrated singleplayer experience with multiplayer gameplay. I loved it when it came out and I love it just as much now. I love WD2 and WDL but original Watch Dogs has some unexplainable magical sauce that brings me back every few years. 1v1 hacking is so good.
This game was very vibey for a 2014 game. The storyline & the graphics were refreshing & it gave me Tom Cruises Minority Report vibes. I loved playing it.
I really love the Connection to Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag... If I'm remembering correctly the dude in charge of Abstergo Entertainment leaves for a meeting in Chicago where Aiden is hired to kill him. Of course there are also multiple references that show that Watch_Dogs is supposed to be the AC Modern Day that Desmond Miles exists in which is a whole other layer of AWESOME 😁 👍

2 > 1 > Legion The two-weapon limit made the second game more challenging but legion’s control-any-character mechanic made weapon choices too awkward. Vehicle options were better in the 2nd game and the hacking felt smoother. Combat in the first game was fun but you felt way too overpowered at points. Legion’s not a bad game but it needs massive alterations to beat the first two

Aiden decides to live in chicago.
So Watch Dogs had some of the most insane and complex combat that the game never teaches you how to properly use. I love this game everytime I play it. It's much like AC Unity in that regard. The game play has a steep learning curve but when you master it you feel like a god.
This is one of my favorite games ever, I remember back when it launched, I was 12 at that time and ever since I saw the first trailer I got immensely hyped for it. So when it launched, I saved money and bought it the same week while I was going back home from school and I vividly remember playing it for the rest of the day and having such a blast! I've played all the watch dogs games, but the first one will always be the best!
I love WD1. It's better than the other 2. It's slick & just cool. #2 tried to be too hipster for younger people. And Legion is ok, way better after you get Aiden & Wrench in the game. Definitely give #1 a try if you haven't already.
Funny thing about invasions: It will not notify you that you are invaded until the person starts a hack. So get this, I was doing the story mission and got to the abandoned shipping container area (you'll know if you played the story which area I'm talking about) and was gonna get the next mission there. After getting out of the car in basically an empty area, void of any npcs, I panned my camera to look behind me and I noticed a car somehow followed me there. Strange as I haven't seen any NPC drive or even walk to this place, so I slowly went up to it wondering what it was about. After getting somewhat close, all I heard was "Shit" from what sounded like VOIP and the car started to back of to drive away which then prompted the "You are being invaded" pop up to appear. That was honestly the best/confusing moment I've had in this game.
Unironically one of my favourite games. I think it got way too much hate, I like aiden, I really enjoyed the story and I enjoyed the gameplay. I finish it every so often I love it. Shits all over watch dogs 2 in my opinion, I find watch dogs 2 story weak af and I never finished it because it was so stupid to me and I didnt care about what was happening at all.
In Watch Dogs 1, I actually felt like Aiden had a reason for doing all the shit he did. Unlike in 2, where it feels like Marcus is butthurt mad for being fucked over. Which would be okay, ***if he wasn't being accused of being some sort of cyber terrorist and decided to wipe it out from his record via cyber and actual terrorism***.
is this the time where games that were seen as bad/mediocre suddenly is remembered as good now. i mean tbf i loved watch dogs 1 since the beginning so its nice to see this game getting more loved.

Aiden Pearce , Niko Belloc and Wei Shen are some of the best open world protagonists and they don’t constantly make stupid jokes every min . These were characters built for dark storylines . Not every good character has to be funny. People complained about Aiden’s personality but he has the same personality as Batman. Serious, sad backstory losing family , protecting the weak , targeting criminals. The only difference between Aiden and Batman is that Aiden kills . Yet Batman is cool but Aiden isn’t. This shows you how people can be influenced by critics .

I honestly quite liked this game. It wasn’t a masterpiece or anything, but it was fun and unique. I liked the tone a lot more than 2 or legion as well.

lastly Legion tried to be dark but it was more or less just a hybrid of the first 2 games put together and even then it captured more of the 2nd game's shenanigans than not so I wouldn't class that as dark either

The gameplay and missions are so fun. Watch Dogs had a special tone of its own and I wish they doubled down on it in later games.
Watch Dogs 2 was a lighter tone, but I find Legion to be pretty dark. It's a dystopian, cyberpunk nightmare, and even the perky Bagley character who helps you through the game turns out to be a deeply tragic figure. There is a lot of really dark, fucked up shit in Legion.

After playing various third person shooters, Watch Dogs gunplay is still my favourite.
And the minigames....the ones like the spider robot could be made standalone.

The only thing I hate, is that the slide/ action only works on pistols on the PlayStation version. Sadly I have an Xbox one. So basically the gunplay is better/ more realistic on ps3
I really liked this game. I had the foresight to know this was a new IP, and was laying the foundation to build on with later games. The screw-up was showing an early demo at Pax West that had completely different mechanics in it.
i heard that (atleast from graphics perspective) it was dialed down so it would run good on console. There's actually a way to bring back the pax graphics or close to them (if i remember corectly).

Yeah if they'd just shown more representative footage it would've had a significantly warmer reception imo. Same with No Man's Sky, they just overpromised with what people would be playing on release. The upside is that I feel like most companies these days are much more wary with what they put out there in terms of gameplay footage.
I honestly love this game for the slow world building. The moral question of when is *too far too far* and I generally think the stories themes are extremely interesting shame they were clouded by exaggerated advertising

The crime/vigilante system was cool as shit in this number 1, I remember stalking the criminals and then chasing them to just beat them down . Shit was great

As a concept, this game is /super/ interesting, the idea of a vigilante being able to control an entire city with his fingertips is something that can and I think has happened before and it's a shame what this series turned into.
The story was great in this game, it rlly tells u how bad revenge can be and how reckless you can be cause of it. At the end of the game the story rlly makes u feel helpless and worthless and that’s why I feel it deserves a good rating

Most people remember this game from the media's perspective of it, which is typically never a good thing, aside from the comparisons to their promises of the game and what the game actually turned out to be, Watch Dogs was an incredible story and experience in my opinion. Aiden Pearce is still one of my favorite protagonists.
I didn'T like it tbh, I found Aiden to be a bore, and honestly, not as smart as he thought he was.

Watch Dogs 1 is so good, the fact that modders are active on the game and there's *still* a community just shows how underrated it is, yeah it may have some flaws but it's amazing.
While you're talking at 10:12 about how there's still some good people left in society, I love the fact that it switches to his police record and says that he's wanted for money laundering, going to court for hate crimes and on bail for forgery.
One thing that everyone misses out about this game is that it has *one of the best soundtrack that anyone can find in a videogame* .
I had made a seperate playlist of the songs of watch dogs 1 on youtube few years back & I still listen to it.
Few songs like 'My brain hurts' , 'When I grow old' , 'On & on' & few others I love it to this day.
My favourite song is Invincible by MGK, which is featured in the game. It was the first time I heard that song.

Honestly think the first game is the best out of the three since the gunplay and stealth in the second wasn't as good.
Also think Aiden is an interesting character. Find it a little irritating when people just think he's boring since he's not very emotive and upbeat.
Jordi is also a pretty fun foil to Aiden. Like that most interactions with Jordi basically boils down to "Jordi what the fuck" in one way or another.
Agreed, aiden and jordi really reminds me of the duo of characters in the Judgement series, the new take on the yakuza game series , and we got the jokes but also someone to be serious about shit, in the second one these kids were murdering countless barely bad people and who they were in cutscenes made no sense, Aiden is a serious guy who was believably cold, or at least miles more than a lot of game protagonists doing similar to what he does
The gunplay....Watch Dogs was the first modern game I played and when I came back to it after playing various TPS games...still, no other game could beat WD's gunplay for me.
About WD2, I quit the game because of the boring gunplay and camera angle.

Aiden is like a god for anyone that likes a well-made "dark" main character. He ain't flashy, doesn't have superpowers or cool weapons, he doesnt have a fun quirky personality or anything like that.
I loved Marcus from WD2 because he really suited the game but Aiden is great too, maybe even better
I say having the entire city infrastructure at your fingertips is a pretty insane weapon. He can also hold an entire weapons arsenal in his back pocket, but I think that's fun, the combat in this game is really solid

I think Legion is a unique game. I like the location, but it isn't a great Watch Dogs game. Due to the play as everyone mechanic, the story isn't good.

Last year I was roaming around in the game wanting to get some nice photos, I’m a photographer and I just had to work with what I was given (there’s no photo mode), and I think I tried to clear up the hud and from what I remember there wasn’t an option.
I loved first game, at least it had really nice story, not that hipster crap of later games.
also, I heard there are mods to push graphics to level shown on that first demo.

They are nerds, and the story itself was about these great charactors and how a group of nerds can take down the large and bad indusrties and their secrets while having fun cause they love doing what they do...well hacking.
Such a cool way to show people whats actually going on in the world, while still beeing hell as fun and realistic/grounded.

To be honest, WD2's story felt more compelling to me. At surface, characters look cringe-fest hipsters but they all get serious and mature when it is the time to be so.
i love the splatter effect when you shoot people. satisfying af. and i love the way he puts his hands in his pockets. i spent so much time just walking. this game got a bad word of mouth when it came out but i think its the best of the 3. the other 2 couldnt hold my interest and i was only interested in legion once Aiden was announced

Aiden is truly one of the most relatable and humanizing characters I’ve ever gotten to know back when watch dogs came out which does make him feel so real and compelling base off his character arch. His realism does makes me feel sympathetic for him.
As a guy who was born in the edgy era and still edgy I loved this game so much, dark and full of sorrow and hatred, it is forever part of who I'm today and even if Ubisoft is a trash company I like the game a lot.

The story and characters in this game were incredible, this is a case of people shitting on all the good parts of the game just because other parts failed to meet expectations and content was cut, I wish that all the cut content was included since it expanded on the characters more and made the story longer and more in depth but it’s still pretty strong at least imo

3 is the worst one, repetitive generic ubisoft with 1 cool idea of recruitment that is a detriment to the games story and any form of character building. 2 was actually decent gameplay wise, some really cool ideas and missions in 2, the characters were okay and the story was not the best but a decent attempt. 1 is definitely the best though.
Bloodline was decent since we have the perspectives of Aiden and Wrench (my favourite WD2 character) but you have to spend like… $20 or something for that. :(
If you dont like the humour in WD2, then you probably wouldnt like the game but WD2 is such a good game

I remember it being a good game. The E3 demo just made everyone disappointed because it looked worse.
I played Watch Dogs for the first time about a year ago and literally had the best time. I only found out it was controversial after I played it and I'm really glad about that, because otherwise I might not have ever picked it up
Watch Dogs 1 was pretty awesome....dark, gritty and cold. It portayed some real life criminal underbelly business like human trafficking and that girls auction scene was shockingly cold. Aiden Pearce himself a shady character type of anti hero who doesn't hesitate stealing innocent people's money and killed a lot of people in his quest for vendetta. Overall great voice acting, awesome soundtrack, nice graphics, and an intense storyline. I give it 8/10.
The prologue mission is very memorable for me. And it has a better feel to it when playing the second time. I love the stealth and action in this game!

The game's atmosphere reminds me of a combination of The Girl With the Dragon Tattoo and John Wick and I love it since E3
I remember getting all the trophies for this game, such a good fun time but I do also think it deserves a lot of its criticisms. The story never grabbed my attention but the open world activities and interactions were the highlight of the game.
I'd say WD 2 is the peak for the series.

The online hacking can be pretty fun if they don’t use any explosives or guns and instead chase you down with a baton. blackouts and using the environment to get away
Best thing about this game is that playing as Aiden Pearce legitimately felt like being a vigilante superhero. Aiden is pretty much Batman without the suit and cape.
The first Watchdogs has pretty amazing atmosphere. That Chicago underworld ,vigilante, near cyberpunk, John Wick vibe is cool.
Infact I play I it in a "controlled chaos" john wick style, slo mo, using quick hacks, being flashy. Has alot of things Cyberpunk 2077 shouldve had, but I think ppl will look back on that game too the same way given enough time.
I wish ubisoft wasn't allergic to sticking with characters. Aiden may seem generic but he actually has a lot of depth and the story brings up alot of hard questions and themes, especially if you find all the audio logs. Maybe the story be better as a graphic novel cause it does feel like one.
But yea the serious tone is something ubisoft could never do today. Just look at the sequels,way to wacky to the point it feels more generic. Legion is only good if I play the whole game as Aiden, its sooo good in that case.
I think studios should start making games in Chicago and other cities. it would be new and change up the LA like cites and New York
,they just get overused now to where it gets dry.

When I got this game as my first game for the ps4 in 2014 it felt a lot like an unofficial batman game. That stil stands today.
If this game came out in today’s market it would do really well. The market is more accepting now when it comes to so called “gta clones” this game has such a unique premise. Such a shame that between 2010 and 2017 so many good titles failed because of the lazy “gta clone” tag which makes no sense. Open world crime is a genre of game it’s okay to have more than one.
im from chicago and when i played this game for ps3 i loved it just bought it again for pc when isaw the factions redux mod that turns the game into a true chicago simumulator and im overjoyed by getting to play in my own city and get back at that cop who gavem e that parking ticket lmfao
I always loved this game! It's in my top 5. I never understood the hate. Then again, I somehow missed all of the hype leading up to it and only found out about it a few years after it came out, so I didn't have the incredibly high expectations that everyone else had.
One of my fave things to do in this game is run around visiting all of the famous Chicago locations!
I'd say the main reason this game got hate is due to them dumbing down the graphics. Consider it false advertising. The trailers for the game looked 2x better than the actual gameplay itself. Never the less, this is easily one of the most underrated games of all time for sure. I had a blast playing this despite the false ads they gave off.
It's because of the downgrades in the graphics. The trailers showed the game looking far better than the final release. People hated it because Ubisoft lied to them we didn't get what was advertised
It's one of my favourite game. Despite the graphical downgrades it still looks great and has a certain chill/depressing vibe to it which I like.
@@airspoon6 there are mods out there that make the game closer to its original trailers and another mod called Living City which completely changes the game.
as someone from Chicago this was new age shit when this game came out and i loved running around downtown and trying to find my crib lmao
One thing I wish this game was is a little more... I guess "honest" is the word, with it's main character. Aiden is clearly deranged and while the story kinda points that out it also treats him as a heroic figure. And it doesn't help that the realism of the game makes this more noticeable.
Also I do like how the game basically implemented social stealth for cars. It genuinely amazes me, it's really cool.
I always say that Watchdogs, the idea, should've been made by another studio because it's been absolutely wasted in Ubisoft's hands. Maybe a Rockstar or Naughtydog or some studio like that, couldve actually kept the theme and story more consistent and like you said honest.
Cyberpunk 2077 actually comes pretty close story wise and while I Love Cyberpunk even with its many faults, Watchdogs 1 had alot of things that 2077 shouldve had and at times feels more cyberpunky. Watchdogs feels like it shouldve been a graphic novel series rather than a game imo.
Aiden Pierce was an icon of mine back in 2015-2016 when I got my PS4 and became obsessed with Watch Dogs 1 and AC:Unity. Been replaying both of those games for the past 7 years now. Everyone hates on Watch Dogs 1 but I fucking love it. Aiden is modern Batman, and the game is dark and gritty. But the game actually does have a lot of funny moments. Aiden himself is very fucking stoic and takes everything, rarely losing cool. Talking to himself and mentally preparing himself before missions. He’s such a cool, brooding character. But he’s also pretty whimsical in his own way. I also grew up in Chicago/Suburbs so the game hits me there too. Watch Dogs 1 will ALWAYS have a special place in my heart. I love seeing people see the good in this game. It definitely has its faults, but it hits.
John Wick Simulator 8/10 would play again
I remember people mainly complaining about there not being enough hacking and the initial Ubisoft visual downgrade. The vehicles were not fun to drive either. But aside from that I really loved the game. The concept was unique enough and the story was fine. I did like Aiden Pearce because at least he felt human. His character made sense in the universe he was in and what his motives were. People trashed on grim games in early 2010s... And personally, I feel like the campaigns hit harder. Halo, TLoU, Resident Evil, Dead Space, Heavy Rain, BF4, Most older CODs, AC, and even NFS (the list goes on).
The Crew 1 had a similar atmosphere where things were a bit darker then necessary. But I do like that. See, the problem I have now is I almost can't take any characters seriously in games like these. A game can be gritty and still have it's funny moments. Assassin's Creed use to do it well. Now you look at BF, characters are happy after killing thousands of soldiers. The Crew 2 and Forza Horizon has the same "Be famous and earn followers" thingy going on that takes any possible depth away. Burnout, for example had no real "story", it was meant to be a fun arcade racing game. But if you looked into it it was brutal. The sound design alone of Takedown gives chills. But it's not serious, you jump into traffic and detonate to deal as much damage as possible.
The protagonist doesn't have to be an edge lord like Kirito, he can still be funny, dumb or anything. But now it's just bad jokes after bad jokes. Characters feel 2D because their only mood is ADHD and 75% (math checks out) of characters are the same if not for different interests. But what am I saying, nowadays games like Halo have no blood or friendly fire and the enemy's goal is to die a great death.
The only thing this game failed on imo is following through. I have written an entire essay on how i would perfect what this game started and how i would implement it in a future watch dogs 4. This franchise can be amazing with enough time and a team of developers with the same love and passion that the fans have.
Jayvee, those E3 graphics are just toggles in the files. Someone made a mod that just quickly re-enables all the sexy E3 graphics for this game.

Watch Dogs is a top 2 favorite open world games for me in the last 10 years. I really wish they had kept the series going like this. I liked how dark it was compared to watch dogs 2
I’m actually a big fan of the watch dog series! 2 is probably my least favourite but definitely has some great things like the smooth traversal system. I just loved the first game, and being able to play as Aiden in the main campaign of watch dogs 3 was really cool
The invasion mode was fun I would play it normally at times but other times I would frequently pause my game while playing in the open world to see if someone invaded me then I would just race around the city watching them try to catch up from behind lmao. It was fun.
The thing i like about Aiden being edgy is that there's a support character who balances Aiden's edginess and that is Jordi. Aiden always seem cautios around him while he doesn't give a single shit about the things Aiden asks him to
I love so much how they integrated singleplayer experience with multiplayer gameplay. I loved it when it came out and I love it just as much now. I love WD2 and WDL but original Watch Dogs has some unexplainable magical sauce that brings me back every few years. 1v1 hacking is so good.
Watch Dogs 1 is so much better than its sequels
This game was very vibey for a 2014 game. The storyline & the graphics were refreshing & it gave me Tom Cruises Minority Report vibes. I loved playing it.

I really love the Connection to Assassin's Creed IV Black Flag... If I'm remembering correctly the dude in charge of Abstergo Entertainment leaves for a meeting in Chicago where Aiden is hired to kill him. Of course there are also multiple references that show that Watch_Dogs is supposed to be the AC Modern Day that Desmond Miles exists in which is a whole other layer of AWESOME 😁 👍
To be honest bro... I liked Watch Dogs 1 better than Watch Dogs 2 and Legion. Aiden story was good and also the tone of the game was great. Plus, Chicago is one of my favorite city.
Maurice voice actor was really good. Something about his voice and the slight, damp echo you can hear from the studio room when he was pleading felt so real
Played it back when it came out , i had heard all the hate had seen the E3 demos and all but i loved since the day i played it was always fine when it came to graphics , had amazing gameplay ideas and finally a great story , the hate was that everyone was so in love with The Nathan Drakes of the world they couldn't take anything more serious than him , and I'm a playstation fanboy
A next gen upgrade or minor remake would suit this game nicely, nothing too big they don’t even have to remake the story and stuff

I played watch dogs 1 about 3 years ago. So much fun, pleasantly surprised by it. I loved it being in Chicago also. Very underrated game.
2 > 1 > Legion
The two-weapon limit made the second game more challenging but legion’s control-any-character mechanic made weapon choices too awkward. Vehicle options were better in the 2nd game and the hacking felt smoother. Combat in the first game was fun but you felt way too overpowered at points. Legion’s not a bad game but it needs massive alterations to beat the first two
Everyone hated Aiden but he feels so human to me. He isn’t just a heartless psychopath that’s making sex jokes 6 minutes after killing half of Chicago. He’s a family man that’s trying to right his wrongs and dark past. It’s a dark game and he’s a rightfully dark character.
Its actually a good game. People just upset because its a ubisoft game and the graphics is just a bit downgraded from what they saw in e3. The open world itself is actually better than gta 5 with it being super detailed and livelier

As a game it is not on the level as gta 5 but ubisoft never failed to make an immersive open world albeit it watch dogs or assassins creed. Aiden Pearce is a mix of the punisher and agent 47 the best watch dogs protagonist.

I love this game a lot, watch dogs is criminally underrated, at the end When i spared maurice and walked back to car.. then i felt the loneliness in city.. it's like Aiden has no one in his life ..his sister and nephew left chicago,clara died,jordi betrayed you for money.. and even after all this happening.. Aiden decides to live in chicago.
So Watch Dogs had some of the most insane and complex combat that the game never teaches you how to properly use. I love this game everytime I play it. It's much like AC Unity in that regard. The game play has a steep learning curve but when you master it you feel like a god.
Just look up Watch Dogs John Wick game play and you'll see what playing this game at it's full potential is like.
This is one of my favorite games ever, I remember back when it launched, I was 12 at that time and ever since I saw the first trailer I got immensely hyped for it. So when it launched, I saved money and bought it the same week while I was going back home from school and I vividly remember playing it for the rest of the day and having such a blast! I've played all the watch dogs games, but the first one will always be the best!
I love WD1. It's better than the other 2. It's slick & just cool. #2 tried to be too hipster for younger people. And Legion is ok, way better after you get Aiden & Wrench in the game. Definitely give #1 a try if you haven't already.
Funny thing about invasions: It will not notify you that you are invaded until the person starts a hack.
So get this, I was doing the story mission and got to the abandoned shipping container area (you'll know if you played the story which area I'm talking about) and was gonna get the next mission there. After getting out of the car in basically an empty area, void of any npcs, I panned my camera to look behind me and I noticed a car somehow followed me there. Strange as I haven't seen any NPC drive or even walk to this place, so I slowly went up to it wondering what it was about.
After getting somewhat close, all I heard was "Shit" from what sounded like VOIP and the car started to back of to drive away which then prompted the "You are being invaded" pop up to appear.
That was honestly the best/confusing moment I've had in this game.
Unironically one of my favourite games. I think it got way too much hate, I like aiden, I really enjoyed the story and I enjoyed the gameplay. I finish it every so often I love it. Shits all over watch dogs 2 in my opinion, I find watch dogs 2 story weak af and I never finished it because it was so stupid to me and I didnt care about what was happening at all.
In Watch Dogs 1, I actually felt like Aiden had a reason for doing all the shit he did. Unlike in 2, where it feels like Marcus is butthurt mad for being fucked over. Which would be okay, ***if he wasn't being accused of being some sort of cyber terrorist and decided to wipe it out from his record via cyber and actual terrorism***.
is this the time where games that were seen as bad/mediocre suddenly is remembered as good now. i mean tbf i loved watch dogs 1 since the beginning so its nice to see this game getting more loved.
