  • We were walking around the Fastivus showgrounds at Summit Point WV when we saw Blairs Miami Blue MK1. At first, we thought it was a beautiful project build, then Blair told us it was an all original Barn find! The Entire car except the engine is fully original and untouched! It is amazing these cars are still out being driven around and is truly something special.

    Your 1977 Rabbit is magnificent! I was graduating high school in 1977 and my parents and I split the cost of a new 1977 2 door Rabbit with a beautiful off white exterior with a light brown interior, 4 speed manual, factory air conditioning that preserved the outside air flow, a big clock where the Scirocco got a tachometer. Your beautiful venting windows in your front door were only available in the earlier part of the model year. I added some VDO gauges in the speaker grill, an amp meter and maybe volts. I put 6x9 speakers in the rear deck's plastic fixed ends and a Pioneer Supertuner radio with a separate amplifier. One rainy drive near Crater Lake the stereo stopped working because the windshield starting leaking water. The front and rear windows were held in by gaskets, barely. I took out the entire dashboard and caulker the heck out of the windshield. I never had a leak again.
    Blair, I loved seeing your beautiful Rabbit! It had brought back so many memories!

    I had a '77, same color, with a hand-crank sun roof! I updated the gearbox with a '85 Jetta too! It was rear-ended by a '70s chevy caprice, 1993, in Everett, WA. I'm not crying. just some dust in my eye. Beautiful car!

    WOW!!! I was 3 years old in 1977. This is probably one of the best and interesting Uploads that I have come across in a while. A one in a Million find. Great Story! Nice Upload DAP!

    Nice restoration! Please consider doing one more thing before calling it complete. Drive the car back to the daughter of the original owner, show her what you did with the car, take her for a ride, and dedicate the restoration effort to her father. A small thing that will surely mean a lot to her.

    My first car was a 2 door '77 Miami Blue! CIS, dealer added AC, '77 Scirocco wheels but I didn't have the passive seat belts. Great to see this one, looks fantastic!

    Thanks for sharing this. Super cool that you have the ABF 16v in there. They are quite rare unless you’re from Europe. I’ve built only a couple of them over the years but I put together piles of 9A’s and PL’s. Hell the 50mm intake/ intake cam from the ABF is even worth some coin. What else is done performance wise besides the Weber’s and the Techtonics cam gear? Really dig the multi-piece wheels you guys built too. Too cool. I wouldn’t change a thing about it except I love ITB’s so I’d have to get some Badger 5’s or something on there. Other than that what a perfect mk1 build. Simple and super clean! 👍🏻😎

    Wow! Just like my first car. Love Miami Blue. I see that the stock clock was replaced with a tachometer. Maybe from a Scirocco? That was one of the first things I modded on my Rabbit. Got the tach from a crashed '78 Scirocco.
    Loved seeing the passive restraint belt and the knee bar.
    Amazing to see. Thanks.

    I used to own a 1980 Gti 5 speed black in Montreal and traded it in for an Audi coupe in 1988. Rabbits used to rust quite easily up north. Used take it up to about 100mph and no more juice after that. One time I snapped the accelerator cable pushing it hard and then stuck a coin in the throttle pin to get back home by raising the idle speed. I started buying Audis and Porsches after that. It had only 78 hp and as a comparison my S4 is a 455 hp monster that can get close to 200.

    :0 wow!! That's one beautiful golf, sorry.. UK terms. I love the way other than the engine transfer there's very little changed.
    I own a mk5, same as your man, I didn't like the look of them at first, but knowing the history and pedigree bought one anyway, I've never regretted the decision once!!
    Mines a wagon, diesel.. love the thing and carry out all work on it myself at home. I'm not very trust worthy of garages near me, plus i have to work to a budget.
    Thank you for this inspiring video. ;)

    It's so rare to see a stock unmolested Rabbit anymore. Seems everyone wants to do something to them. When you see one that is original, it's an amazing thing. I remember when these cars were still at the dealerships. I used to actually like the square headlight Rabbits more than the roundeye ones back in the day, and because of that, my mk1 is still original. We've had mine since 1981 when it was new. I was 7 when we got it. It needs restored, but it's cool having one that could pretty easily be made nice again. Nice Rabbit! Loving the paint on it!

    • @briansmith2163
      @briansmith2163 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      @@1PotatoeMasher1 I had an 81 four door automatic with CIS. It was how I got my job as a parts specialist at a VW Audi dealership. I rebuilt it with 100% New old stock factory original everything. One exception. I put Jetta 3 steel wheels on and found those factory original NOS. VW ashtray centers with oem clips for tje center. Driving a Rabbit as it was originally made, just as it came from the factory is an amazing experience. At 85 mph I could have filled a martini glass, set it on the dashboard and not spilled a drop. It also could do 45 mph 90 degree turns with complete traction. It was like no other 1981 car made. I did not upgrade anything. Just used actual REAL VW old new stock tightened to the right specs. I hope I was not the last person to ever do that.
