I’ve always had several collector cars, including some really high end ones. For some reason though, I was always intrigued by the Beetle. I bought a ‘67 several years ago and barely drive anything else since. People just smile whenever it’s around. Luv my Beetle!

That is the coolest Beetle, I think. With the glove box and the big round rear lights. An awesome car!

I agree, I know the earlier models are more sought after and expensive, but for me the super beetle is the one I knew growing up and it's just the best!

They say absence makes the heart grow fonder. If VW brought back the original Beetle and Super Beetle there would still be a market for these cars. VW was always improving this car throughout it's history. With a few modern upgrades in engine design, air bags, led lights, A/C, etc., these great cars could be popular once again.

The original Beetle reached its zenith in Mexico. It has just about every modern refinement possible for that car. But, sales continued to drop because it was still too common to appreciate. Only after being gone for so long are we realizing what we've lost.
The 2003 Mexican Beetle should be the starting point for a revival of the car. Unfortunately, the EPA and DOT have imposed ridiculous emissions and safety standards that would make it impossible to sell as a new car in the U.S. Maybe VW could sell the car as a CKD kit that you build yourself. I'm pretty sure there are loopholes in some States that would allow a DIY build of a new Beetle to be titled and registered.

I had a 1973 super beetle with a 1600 dual port engine. It was a great car!
Was really good in the snow and even off road. I could see why people turned them into Baja bugs. I had to learn how to check and adjust the valves pretty much every time I changed the oil. Once I got that down and learned how to maintain it, it was a very reliable car. I miss it!

It always amazes me that this car was in production for 65 years. Interesting to watch the factory films from the 40's, to this film, to the last of the aircooled ones built in Mexico (Building Last VW Bug in Mexico 2003). What a run.

The date is wrong for this video. It is actually 1977. The seats with the separate head rests came out in 1977. Additional clues show that it is USA specification -ie. The fuel injection (Bosch L3 Jetronic) , with single tail pipe, and the piston shock absorbers on the bumpers. The PDF manual can be seen if you Google: "beetle 1977 sedan pdf"

Single exhaust, 5MPH bumpers, head rests. These are probably some of the last VW Beetles destined for the US market in the late 1970's. After that, we couldn't buy them anymore because government bureaucrats and Ralph Nader somehow got to decide what the individual American citizen can drive. How did we let that happen?

Air tools are often calibrated to deliver a specific torque on assembly lines. Air impact guns are usually set up with a "torque stick" which is a tool extension with a preset amount of twist "give" in the shaft. Factory tightened fasteners rarely have problems.
