    The quality vacillates in Rome, as it hosts so many tourists...so sheisty low-quality restaurants can be pretty normal. Be sure to get recommendations from a local.

      It was a Thursday and we happened upon Monte D'oro pizza, near Palazzo Borghese. When I ate their gnocchi alla gricia, I knew I had to have this every chance I could. Unfortunately, I found out about giovedi gnocchi. To be able to eat this only once a week seemed like punishment.
      I will be back in December and you know where to find me every Thursday at lunchtime. 🙂

    1. Maritozzo is not a typical italian breakfast. Have a caffè and cornetto. Or pane burro e marmellata... instead.
    2. Fiore di zucca -- zucchini fried yes its roman -- yet fritto di baccalà ( fried codfish ) is more famous
    3. Pizza al taglio in any forno. ( usually forno sells bread and similitarities) what is very typical is PIZZA BIANCA... SIMPLE PLAIN WHITE PIZZA. Uwont find it in Naples nor in Milan. Not this thin romanish type. For ex in Genova is thicker and with olives..
    4. Pasta all'Amatriciana is not originally from Roma. Its from Amatrice -- of course :)
    Go to la trattoria " vecchia roma" in via Ferruccio... near termini station... and try ANY pasta dish... Amatriciana flambé in pecorino ... cacio e pepe... carbonara...U will thank me!
    5. Supplì... yes this is roman!
    6. Best pizza al taglio ( pizza by slice)... la boccaccia in trastevere!

    • @Withlocals
      @Withlocals  5 ปีที่แล้ว +7

      Hi Maria :) Cool you are coming to Rome next month! Such a charming city 😍 At the same time it is so hard to narrow down what to try, starting with the guilty pleasures of Italian cuisine! Please, tell us you did not plan already everything though! If you get in touch with our locals they will provide you with so many more additional insights than our sort videos :)
      To answer your question, the prices of these goods can REALLY vary a lot depending on the quality of the produces, on the venue and on the area of Rome you will be. As general indications and assuming you will meet our local hosts Matteo, Gabriele or Valentina first (😉): an Italian coffee should never cost more than 1€ (and in Rome, you can easily find even cheaper options!), a Pizza Margherita should be around 6€, a Suppli would be 2 - 3€ and so the fried zucchini flowers if you get them on the go "street food Italian style". Roman artichokes we cannot estimate because you would normally order them in a restaurant. And again, it really depends. Same goes with the pasta(s) but let's say the price should be in-between 9 and 15€. Gelato can be also tricky because it depends a lot on how many scoops and so on, but you could get a good one (2 flavors) for around 3€. The tiramisu can range from 4€ for a classic portion to around 6€ (or more!) when you order it as dessert in a proper restaurant. Last but not least is cheese: if you order a pasta it will be grated on top, if you want to buy a proper piece make sre to go for quality and be ready to spend a few euros more... It will be 100% worth it :) Hope this will be helpful! Keep us posted with your culinary explorations ❤ Cheers 🇮🇹

      Arancini are Sicilian , they have a cone or ball shape they're usually made with rice, cheese, ragu' and peas, ragu'and peas are in the center, separated from the rice...classic roman Suppli' has an cylinderish shape, is made with rice seasoned with ragu' (the rice is not separated from the ragu' sauce as in the arancino) and parmesan and in the center there is a piece of mozzarella.

      @@nehalnarahari8520 if you want to eat pasta carbonara or gricia or cacio e pepe you can go to tonnarello or nannarella or grazia e graziella (they shoud be from the same owner, and should be around trastevere area) or another nice restaurant where I use to go, also in trastevere, il duca. For ice creams a historic place is giolitti, around chigi area, another historic one is gelateria fassi, I think around s. Giovanni in laterano, then near piazza navona there is frigidarium where there's always so many people and it's good, another place to try different kind of tastes of icecream is fata morgana.. for pizza on the go, I would go to largo torre argentina, in via florida there's pizza florida, they are great, or in a bakery forno roscioli as I think they suggested here. To seat I suggest you Pizzium in via piave (10 minutes from termini) for really good ingredients, or forno della soffitta (via piave) or pepe nero (via isonzo, nearby). If you are there, try icecream at "la romana", very popular, or at "I caruso", very well done. ✌️
