So the company was following the law until the dea snuck in to the company and broke the law themselves? Not to mention a bong only becomes paraphernalia after an illegal substance is used in it.
It depends. The judge can say "It's a bong, so it was originally designed, made, sold, and possibly bought with the intention of smoking pot with it, and therefore it's drug related even if it's never been used (yet)." I find it a little weird myself because you could always buy rolling papers at corner stores and gas stations, commonly sold as "cigarette papers", even though most people that bought them used them for rolling joints instead of tobacco cigarettes. It's simply because the company printed "cigarette papers" on the pack, implying that they were intended for tobacco and not cannabis, so they weren't considered paraphernalia for illegal drug use. Tommy Chong could have simply marketed his bongs as Tobacco Water Pipes or something like that, that way he wouldn't have had to worry about it. Once you have it, it's up to you what you smoke in it--but the legal liability doesn't fall on the Chong Bong Company, just like for companies like Zig Zag etc. that sell rolling papers.
@@devilsoffspring5519 Its because its a case of them not actually caring about right or wrong but using and purposely twisting laws to use as weapons to control people and gain more power. The weed laws targeted African american communities, how when the law is blind. Well because the people who enforce them are not blind and selectively enforce them or up the charges to threaten and try to get a guilty plea on lesser charges regardless of guilt. That's just the sad truth, in the land of the free they think its right to tell you how to act. They should see themselves as peace officers striving for peace but they see themselves as police officers trying to police peoples actions past the safety of the people and public. That's not freedom, there is a reason people get scared when they see a cop instead of safe. Its because they hunt. I'm even incredibly nervous if i feel like i need them. Calling 911 is such a last resort to me that id prob call to late if i wasn't safe.
@@kyleclancy4040 Been there, done that. I've learned you're much better dealing with certain bullshit yourself (probably illegally) than you are going to the cops. Just how it is. Funny as hell to think if you’re a celeb and go to prison for something so insignificant you just get more popular. Also I couldn’t stop laughing at how Tommy sees jail as a joke 😂
It's illegal. An undercover getting a job and shipping paraphernalia to a state where it's illegal. Pretty sure that can be the perfect example of entrapment. Specially after months of the company refusing to sell to that state.
In some states, like Arizona for example you can sign up to be an organ donor wherever as long as they have the paperwork but someone has to also sign that they saw you sign up for it. As a witness. I signed up at a stand on campus that they had set up. This is just my best assumption though, but I'm pretty sure that's how it worked.
CJ R You're right. Sometimes in legally binding contracts they need a witness so they have somebody to subpoena if the singer says they signed it against their will or whatever.

I find it a little weird myself because you could always buy rolling papers at corner stores and gas stations, commonly sold as "cigarette papers", even though most people that bought them used them for rolling joints instead of tobacco cigarettes.
If you want to minimize bullshit in life, minimize your contact with authority whenever possible, i.e. don't be defenseless if you can avoid it in your country.
The company was following the law but Chong wasn't. And you're wrong about when something can be considered paraphernalia.
@@suicidesquid3581 Bongs are sold in gas stations. Not paraphernalia unless there's residue
So basically the DEA should have arrested the DEA agent

Many people fear going to prison. Tommy Chong didn't. And he knew no one would mess with him. He's a legend! Hilarious story.
He went to jail not prison which is slightly less scary but yeah tommy chong loves every minute of it lol
Well at least the US drug war has contributed one positive thing to society... this set

LOL .... but fuck the assholes for stressing him out for no reason. He's so freaking genuine man.

I could listen to Tommy Chong all day long. His roster of tales must be endless.
This is a true legend and champion right here. TV and movies would not have been the same without Cheech & Chong.
Man, he is blaaazed and it is wonderful.
When you realize why Chong left that 70s show for a season... Haha
Had the pleasure of meeting him at a comedy club.got his autograph.a legend for sure.much love goes out to Tommy and family.

Funny as hell to think if you’re a celeb and go to prison for something so insignificant you just get more popular. Also I couldn’t stop laughing at how Tommy sees jail as a joke 😂
DEA knocks on Tommy Chong's door.
Tommy: Who is it?
DEA Agent: It's the D..E..A!
Tommy: The DEA??....The DEA's not here!!
Never would be
That should be illegal to have the DEA set you up like that...
How else do they catch people? Rather they should kinda tax and regulate it
Ashley Williams nevermind, that kinda set up is a pretty lowblow
It is illegal it just isn't en4ced
It's illegal. An undercover getting a job and shipping paraphernalia to a state where it's illegal. Pretty sure that can be the perfect example of entrapment. Specially after months of the company refusing to sell to that state.

Yes! Love you Tommy! We need more stories like this!
I met him once, in a strip club. He was my organ donor witness on my driver's license!
what the fuck does this even mean are you having a stroke?
ALLIWANNADOISCOMMENT I’m wondering the same thing 😂😂
In some states, like Arizona for example you can sign up to be an organ donor wherever as long as they have the paperwork but someone has to also sign that they saw you sign up for it. As a witness. I signed up at a stand on campus that they had set up. This is just my best assumption though, but I'm pretty sure that's how it worked.
@@ALLIWANNADOISCOMMENT lmao Fr
CJ R You're right. Sometimes in legally binding contracts they need a witness so they have somebody to subpoena if the singer says they signed it against their will or whatever.
The greatest story everyone should hear.
Fun fact: Tommy Chong’s cellmate in prison the dude from Wolf of Wall Street
Belfort?
Pineapple yeah
They usually have celebrity exclusive prisons which was why they were both there.
Tommy actually persuaded him to write the book.
So in a weird way we have those shitty DEA agents to thank for Wolf Of Wall Street. Ain’t that a bitch.
I love #TommyChong I love how honest he’s ever been about all of his ‘problems’.
Love the line ‘you can’t make a rich Mexican work’.#CheechMarin #CheechAndChong
His problems...as in🇺🇸government
No, his problems as a divorced dad, legal issues, having his family turn on him, how much his daughter has helped him get through health problems, etc.
The US government is no ‘angel’. No government is. But we ARE making changes when it comes to marijuana and paraphernalia. Blaming the government for EVERYTHING is just an example of not taking responsibility for your own actions. Sometimes, it’s YOU that fucks up, but you don’t like the way it went down so it’s the cops/government/rich people/anyone else’s fault(s). And I saying ‘you’ not as in you personally (unless you are one of those I mentioned), but as a broad term.
I have never been arrested, have never had any direct issues with a PD, never been rich (but did work for a multimillionaire for almost 12 years), and take accountability for my own actions and stupidity. I’m nearly 40.
Am I a fan of the current government? No, POTUS is literally trying to make my life harder and is trying to kill my livelihood. But, I’m not out here bashing him every chance I get. And I’ve had plenty. I do my best to do my best.
