    I tried your pureed pumpkin recipe yesterday. It worked beautifully. I think I'll make some more. I did use my InstantPot and your instructions were spot on. In addition to recipes that I'll use the puree to make people food, I put a tablespoon of pureed pumpkin in my dog's food each day; great fiber for her digestion. I also used your suggestion and put a measured portion in zip lock freezer bags for my deep freezer. Flat bags of premeasured puree is so smart and does not take up a lot of room in my freezer. Thanks!

    I'm no expert in the kitchen, but last year we grew N. Georgia Candy Roaster Squash/Pumpkins and roasted them in the oven; filled our chest freezer with bags of Pumpkin, corn and other stuff from our garden. This year we have loads of Butternut squash because of the current conditions and it can be used in lots of things.. I really enjoyed the entire family working together making this video and the one doing apples.

    I think your daughter's need to have their own TH-cam channel. They could direct it to the younger generation. They have so many talents. Teaching crafts,sewing and cooking would be so helpful as they don't offer home economics in schools anymore. It would be very valuable and I don't think there are few if any channels like that out there.
    Just a thought.

    Hi, I have always made a puree out of my pumpkins, But I can it, put in a canning jar, then water bath it. But I also just add cinnamon & nutmeg to it. Then when I need the two cups, I canned into the jars, into pumpkin pies, I add the Carnation evaporation milk, & a little bit of brown sugar. Then add it to the pre-cooked pie crust, then put into the pumpkin pie into oven. Cook at 350 degrees, for about 45 minutes. After cooking add either whipped cream or Cool Whip.

  • @parnellbeth
    @parnellbeth 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Another way to preserve pumpkin is to dehydrate it. As a kid I helped mom cut the pumpkins in one inch horizontal rings, peel and slide on to broomsticks which we hung from the porch roof. On cool days we would put the ends of the sticks into the backs of 2 ladderback chairs placed around the heating stove.

  • @dhansonranch
    @dhansonranch 3 ปีที่แล้ว +4

    Good job! I always toast the seeds and in fact, I toast the seeds from all of the various squash, including zucchini (I leave mine on till they are huge - they store well and I bake alot of zucchini sweets for freezer, plus Zucchini marmalade). However, I just wash them, then sprinkle salt over and then toast. Going to have to give your way a go. My preference is for the canned pumpkin because you can drain it better and so the puree is drier vs freezing which quite often gives a watery product. But again, my preference. I like the pumpkin fried in butter and then sprinkled with brown sugar as a side dish.

    Very nice video indeed, I especially love the roasted one and the cookies. I would suggest to use vinegar instead of bleach. You know how your raspberries go mouldy in few days after they have been picked? Well I have learned from my granny to give them a vinegar bath - 1 part vinegar and 15 parts water, let them sit in it for 5 minutes, don't rinse them, let them dry out naturally, and then put them in a fridge in a glass container lined with a napkin. She said it kills all the bacteria and fungus, so I would think it would work for pumpkins too.

    Here it is almost a year later and I'm just finding you! You guys are so easy to watch, so knowledgable and I enjoyed every step of the way. Made me subscribe. I'm looking forward to what you did between here.....and now! However, I think I'd mix the dry ingredients all together for easy distribution as well as to cut back on the amount of air being incorporated into those cookies. That's my personal preference, because I'd rather have them a little less pouffy but still light and fluffy inside. I'm going to be making these in a few weeks!

    First time watching your channel. Arrived here because I was looking for advice on what to do with my very first pumpkins!! Loved your explanation, your girls are gorgeous and so knowledgeable. Great to know I could use the pressure cooker and use the skins. Nothing wasted. All the episode I found so informative. Congratulations! I wish you much success. Thanks!

    I can see your daughter on ‘this morning’ a UK programme on UK TV as she is so impressive. You’ve done a great job on giving her so much confidence. Jen from Snowdonia x

    I would totally add semisweet morsels instead of raisins. My family doesn't like raisins, but I do.

    I love pumpkin cookies, but my favorite is my Grandma's pumpkin bread. One thing her recipe calls for is chopped dates along with the raisins and nuts, and let me tell you, they are awesome in it! Next time I make the cookies, I'm going to try some in them.

      @@anniemcelroy2812 here is Grandma's recipe. I usually add about double the spices called for/sub pumpkin pie spice, depending on what's in the pantry at the time. I just add and taste until I get it where I want, lol.
      2 1/2C flour - 1/2 tsp salt- 1 tsp nutmeg- 1 tsp cinnamon-2 tsp baking soda- 3 C sugar. Combine in large bowl and set aside.
      Beat together 4 eggs- 2C pumpkin puree-1C oil-2/3 C water. Carefully add dry mixture and mix until well blended. Add 1/2C pecans, 1/2C raisins, 1/2C chopped dates (all optional) Pour into greased loaf pans 2/3 full, bake at 350 for about 45-50 minutes. Yield, 2-3 loaves, depending on pan size

    Mmm yum 😋
    Raisins I’m sure would be good but I would probably like it better with chocolate chips. And definitely pecans would be great to either way if you have them on hand. Thank You for sharing. Have a great weekend.

      They are so good, Heather! Enjoy. They do dry out easily if you over bake them though so keep an eye on them... depending on how your oven bakes!

    This video came across my feed as a recommended video. So glad I clicked! 1) How long do whole pumpkins keep after the bleach wash? 2) When washing the seeds, no need to put on paper towels since u are going to throw them back into water..I would just put them directly into the bowl u use to move them to the stove top and save time and paper towel usage :). Very glad I found your channel. I've subscribed :).
