I just found this through google regarding egg nog: "While culinary historians debate its exact lineage, most agree eggnog originated from the early medieval Britain “posset,” a hot, milky, ale-like drink. By the 13th century, monks were known to drink a posset with eggs and figs." What we drink now as eggnog has nothing to do with ale, but is more like a liquid custard, often flavored with a little nutmeg and sometimes spiked with alcohol and usually served cold. I just recently discovered your TH-cam channel and am enjoying listening to you two banter. Have a Merry Christmas!
That's interesting, so it IS actually British in it's origins! Not sure we'll be trying it though! Thank you for watching Lauri! So glad you're enjoying our videos! Merry Christmas!
I know this is way late but I'm going through your videos because the one's I just started watching are funny. But during the holidays if you do get a chance to, you really should try egg nog. Don't let the name fool you, it's really quite tasty and if you add rum to it it's divine.
Eggnog is a drink that is made with milk, cream, eggs and nutmeg. The spiked versions usually are made with brandy or bourbon, sometimes rum or cognac. It sort of tastes like a liquid custard.
Joel's Posh British accent and the Plumpkin comment is HILARIOUS!! I'm here at my office listening to this video with headphones and tears of laughter are streaming down my face!! And what is Lia saying at 10:50 -- squeezing bungees?? Just before the surgery comment
Egg Nog - purchased in a container at the market. Serve in a punch bowl with rum or brandy and fresh whipped cream. You will love it!! The commercially made stuff is not eggy, like homemade can be. Use enough alcohol to be able to taste it, but not too much.
I want Joel to buy my Christmas Presents! Him saying that he Loves to watch people open the Presents that he bought them says one very important thing to me, he puts alot of Love & Thought into his Gift Buying. Joel, you should make a Skill Share Video on How to Buy the Right Gifts!
Merry Christmas to both of you!! Lia, your nose looks amazing, all the haters can piss off. I love when you both get to laughing so hard. Lia has this high pitched sound when she laughs super hard, it’s my fav ❤️
Here is the recipe for eggnog: Ingredients 4 egg yolks 1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon 1 pint whole milk 1 cup heavy cream 3 ounces bourbon 1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg 4 egg whites* Directions In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color. Gradually add the 1/3 cup sugar and continue to beat until it is completely dissolved. Add the milk, cream, bourbon and nutmeg and stir to combine. Place the egg whites in the bowl of a stand mixer and beat to soft peaks. With the mixer still running gradually add the 1 tablespoon of sugar and beat until stiff peaks form. Whisk the egg whites into the mixture. Chill and serve. If you prefer you can substitute Rum for the Bourbon
Dana says- Doing another Joel & Lia binge session today (please forgive if that sounds sketchy) and found this gem. I've never watched youtubers and laughed along with them til I got tears streaming down my face. So yeah. Check that item off the list. I actually had to pause it for a minute for fear I was going to start on a true giggle-fit. My stomach just can't take it. Still, you guys put such a huge smile on my face with your humor and contagious joy.
Basically a man called Guy Fawkes tried to blow up the houses of parliament along with the king using gunpowder. He was caught in the act and tortured before he was later killed. Bonfire night is where we celebrate the safety of the king at the time by having fireworks. We also light a bonfire to emphasise the fire we vision Guy Fawkes burning on as revenge for the crime he committed.
Eggnog is delish. It pretty much is American. You buy eggnog in a bottle at the store (cold liquid no idea how it's made) and mix it with milk (maybe some kind of alchohol but I think milk is better) and enjoy! It's really thick and kinda sweet too.
Google Says while culinary historians debate its exact lineage, most agree EGGNOG originated from early medieval BRITAIN “posset”, a hot, milky, ale-like drink. By the 13th century, monks were known to drink posset with eggs and figs.
Song title is "Holy Night" and yes it is the best Christmas Coral. And Lia, I wouldn't call Fairy Tales of New York a get message of Christmas. But it's funny you'd think so. And in the the States we have never heard or listen to either Fairy Tales or Driving Home. But I looked both up and really loved the Driving Home for Christmas.
The Pogues and Kisty MacColl 's song is my favourite one. Definitedly. I praise your liking. Anyway, I wish you a merry Chritmas, guys. You are really funny! Feliz Navidad desde Córdoba España. Enjoy your time!!
Shrove Tuesday - Umm. Is that Fat Tuesday - the day before Lent begins? I'm from Michigan - and we have a ton of Polish folks and they brought Paczki over and they are freaking amazing. Use up all the Fat, Lard and Sugar. They are huge donuts filled with Prunes originally. We fill them with everything. I love custard. Egg Nog is amazing. Add some booze and fabulous. Yes, they add some egg to the milk - I'm not even sure what they do.
Eggnog a wonderful drink and made with yolks from fresh eggs. Make sure, the eggs are organic . The egg yolks are shaken, with a lot of fervour, in a shaker with rum or brandy and with sugar.. Sabaglione ( pronounced saba-i -onè) is the Italian, warm version, which has a cooking, technic which one needs to master. It's high in cholesterol, so beware..Best to stick to mulled wine, when you party, in a group.
Sounds like "Shrove Tuesday" is similar to Mardi Gras. The mention of Pancakes sounds great! Egg nog is a very rich, creamy drink that often has alcohol in it. It's very sweet. "O Holy Night, Joel, is the song you were singing. But have you two ever heard the Christmas Vacation song? It's fabulous!
Evga nog is a milk with spices in it, if seems. I think it was from England in the old days, and used to have rum in it. Cloves & nutmeg were the spices, I think. I'm sure you could look it up on the internet somehow.
I was asked if I could teach a young 20's girl how to make egg nog. I tried several recipes, some cooked the egg yolks like a custard, and thickened it with whipped egg whites. I found that to laborsome. Some recipes instructed you to use raw egg yolks and egg whites. Which I wouldn't want to drink. I make an eggless nog that uses a pint of heavy whipping cream slightly thickened in a blender, where it's still pourable, I whip it with a 6 oz jar of caramel sauce, 4 tsp of vanilla extract, and 1/2 tsp of almond extract. The nice thing about this recipe is that it can be served either cold or warm. Both are quite good! It's a great way to add a drink worthy of making a celebratory toast for the holidays. You can spike the drink with your favorite alcohol, and dust it with ground nutmeg, or ground cinnamon. I prefer it plain without liqour, or spices.
Eggnog's European Origins It is believed that eggnog began in Europe. As early as the 13th century, medieval monks in Britain were known to drink posset, a warm ale punch with eggs and figs.
@joelandlia I just found this video. When you were talking about favorite holidays, what did Joel say? And egg nog is milk, raw egg, vanilla, cinnamon, nutmeg whipped in the blender. It's even better with brandy or rum in it.
Absolutely loved this vid as I watch your videos solely for how sweet/funny you two are! I'm English myself (and therefore fluent) and so these are my faaaaaaavourite videos of yours🤗🤗
Stumbled across your channel today, you have a wonderful friendship may it last forever. agree with Joel, Oh Holy Night is a wonderful song... but also whenever I hear the song "I want a hippopotamus for Christmas" (google it and yes it's a cheesey song) it reminds me of my Grandmother who used to sing it to me when I was a child. One is rather ranting on now so all that is left for me to say is have a Happy wonderful Christmas and wishing you both a Happy and Healthy New Year xxx
I just stumbled on your channel somehow and I'm hooked. Y'all are hilarious, I'm cackling 🤣 I'll be working my way through the rest of your videos now. Hopefully I can class up my somewhat crass American dialect 🤣🙃
I normally sleep right through New Year's never really cared about New Year's just another night in my opinion. We actually do have a national Pancake Day Care in America but it's not an official recognized holiday. Over here national holidays are like Christmas Thanksgiving Halloween Easter we have President's Day which I could just passed a couple of weeks ago we have Martin Luther King Day celebrating Martin Luther King jr. We have St Patrick's day was yesterday Memorial Day Veterans Day and so many more.
Egg nog has various recipes, but is mostly made with whipped egg yolks, milk and /or cream with rum and/or brandy added, and served cold. Commercial; eggnog is available in the milk section between Thanksgiving and Xmas in just about every store which sells milk, and is also a mixture of milk/cream and egg yolks flavored with McCormack brand brand non-alchoholic brandy extract, and is very good. It used to be possible to make even skim milk eggnog at hoe with same, a bit of yellow coloring and said extract, which sadly is no longer sold to the general public - too many people making their more healthy competitive own? You can make a decent approximation with McCormack rum extract, but it's not quite the same. You needed the McCormack brand for the eggnog - other brands don't work.
Hi, Joel & Lia. I was surprised that neither of you know what eggnog is. I don't know if it's "a British thing", but I have heard British people mention it like it's as common as dust.
Actually, a Brit here, 36 and I never heard of this word until last night when I heard someone mention it on the internet, I was like wtf is that... now I've just heard it for the 2nd time watching this, time to check it out!

That's good that both of you are doing good. Your eyes and everything else. Laughter is contagious. Every time you laugh I do. Enjoy life. Have fun. Both of you should come to the U.S. again. Here's a Christmas song you might like. Socks again. All I get for gifts is socks. Tons of socks. Piles of socks. Socks of so many colors. Socks with pics of animals. Stop with the socks. Where are the good gifts? Something other than socks. You'll have everyone singing this song in no time. It's called Christmas Socks.
Y’all are seriously so funny together

It doesn't sound very appealing, BUT we both love custard, so maybe it'd be a winner!
Sounds similar to Baileys Irish Cream with milk (Brit here also never heard of eggnog)
Eggnog is very good and sort of like a lightly flavored nutmeg/cinnamon milkshake. Add rum and it's an entirely different experience!
@@TomGB-81 it's _nothing_ like Baileys Irish cream!
The giggles 😂 and the plumpkin comment is iconic. I had a comment saying ‘I love how round your face has become’. THANK YOU
haha, "ermm ... thanks?" people are funny!

Merry Christmas to both of you!! Lia, your nose looks amazing, all the haters can piss off. I love when you both get to laughing so hard. Lia has this high pitched sound when she laughs super hard, it’s my fav ❤️
Cackling so hard at Lia making Joel stop singing so you don't get demonetized. But also, I love that song.
Where are you from?

Thanks Esther! So glad to have you here!
Eating yummy food, wrapping & opening presents. Decorate the Christmas tree.
Oh we do that Christmas Eve. And maybe go to other family or to a movie on Christmas Day.
Here is the recipe for eggnog:
Ingredients
4 egg yolks
1/3 cup sugar, plus 1 tablespoon
1 pint whole milk
1 cup heavy cream
3 ounces bourbon
1 teaspoon freshly grated nutmeg
4 egg whites*
Directions
In the bowl of a stand mixer, beat the egg yolks until they lighten in color.
