I've been diabetic for 7 years and have lost 80 pounds doing low carb and intermittent fasting. My blood sugar is normal as long as I follow these. I dont need any meds for it. I absolutely love fasting, it is so so helpful to control my blood sugar.
I love older British TV. Are You Being Served, Faulty Towers, As Time Goes By, To the Manor Born, The Vicar Of Dibley and Keeping Up With Appearances. But my all time favorite is Doctor Who.
I am from Eastern Europe, and we don’t do the money dance, but we do form a money queue. It’s tradition to gift money in envelopes and the bride and the groom just stand there for about an hour and just receive money. Just like you described Lia, it’s a communal way to help the couple get on their feet, and you get it back at your wedding. Now, in my case, I feel a bit awkward about this, because there’s always rumours that you invited someone just for the money. And people actually do it, invite people they’ve never spoken too (like your cousin’s boyfriends parents) just to receive cash. I am an introvert in the first place, so I did a dinner wedding with parents and siblings.
I don’t know if it’s a Hispanic thing or San Antonio but at the weddings they do a dollar dance where you pay whatever dollar amount to dance with the bride and groom for a few seconds.
I'm old and have been to a lot of weddings here in San Antonio, they always had a dollar dance at a wedding and quinceniera. It doesn't need to be dollar it can be a higher amount. It's Never been as much as in Lia's experience tho.
I’m Greek and I’ve never heard of pinning money. Learned something new here about Greek Cypriot culture. We do give wedding gifts of money though, included in a wedding card. We also throw money bills at the bride & groom during the Greek dancing. This is a tip for the band 😊
I don’t know if it’s regional (Central California), but we buy a gift AND do a money dance. We call it the dollar dance, but you put whatever. We no longer pin in on dresses…we get a little bag that matches our dress.
I’ve been to a few weddings and engagement parties (aka a Jack and Jill) where they do a dollar dance and people go up to the bride and groom and hand the money to the best man/maid of honor so they can dance with each person for like 20 or so seconds each throughout one long song. It’s the same concept to help the couple with expenses or anything they need for their new life together.
We call it the dollar dance here in Texas. But we don't pin the money to the dress. The maid/matron of honor and the best man each have a bottle of liquor and have people line up. For "a dollar" (most people contribute much more) you take a shot and get to dance with the bride/groom. Traditionally, men danced with the bride and women with the groom -- but if your reception is a good one, people will "pay" to dance with both. If it's not a drinking crowd, some people put the money that's collected in a wishing well.
I'm serious right now, the money dance custom sounds AWESOME. What an amazing way to help a young couple get started. I mean, it's better than a gravy boat or whatevs people grab at Bed, Bath and Beyond. Like here's six terrycloth towels, mazeltov. No thank you, pin a Benjamin to my tux or get on your bike...lol. OMG, I love these talking vlogs so much.. It's like the original Joel and Lia vlogs in the hotel rooms with the J&L behind you. 😊❤️💯
At a wedding I attended here in the US where the bride walked around the guests with a "boodle bag". Everyone was expected to put cash into it every time they were approached, and it was many times she approached. Most of the guests were new to this "tradition" and did not have a supply of $1.00 bills to "donate".
I went on TH-cam to watch a money dance. I think it looks like fun. I’m 70 and have never seen it before. What a wonderful way to give gifts! I hope you will video yours so we can see it!❤️❤️❤️
I just had BritBox added, and I love it! Sadly too late for your 50% off. And Joel I’m addicted to the show with Alan C. And Amanda H. 😂😂 it’s hilarious😂
Ozempic (rebranded as Wegovy for those who use it for weight loss) really changes how you feel about food. It also changes how food tastes as well. I just started the dosage above the base dosage. I am hoping to drop a lot of weight this Summer.
More than once Indian wedding parties have reserved streets in Cincinnati's Downtown neighborhood for the tradition of the groom riding in on a white horse, open to all. I unsuspectedly walked up on one of these events and found myself next to the ex-mayor, who apparently had done the same. I guess people like the vibe because the city recently elected a mayor with Indian and Nepali immigrant parents, and two of our county officeholders are of Indian background
Always invite the neighbors! Keeps the complaints down. LOL There is a recipe in the southern US called "Good Neighbor Casserole". Makes so much that there is enough for one's own family and a neighbor's as well. Kinda makes the sharing intentional.
Been loving the podcast so much! 🤗💓 the episodes keep getting better and there’s so much fun to listen to. It always makes my day when I see that there’s a new episode to watch. 🙌👏❇️❤️
I have to tell you 2. I've finally tried your Heinz Beans. My grocery store has a small shelf area where they sell UK and Ireland groceries. My thought on them as an American is they remind me of these bean we had as a child back in the 70's call Pork and Beans they had little cut up hot dogs in them. That's what they reminded me of.
I tried them too, and I really didn’t like them. I prefer the sweet American version to the English tomato based beans. I even choose brown sugar or honey variations. I do love beans on toast, especially with toasted French bread, but definitely the sweet American kind of beans.
I don't know if it's the same in the UK, but Ozempic is being taken by celebrities in the US and so it's creating a shortage for diabetics all so famous people can lose weight. Edit: I typed that before Lia said it. I can explain how Ozempic works if you want.
So not only do we do the money dance, we also do a wedding march and sell the brides shoe! I’m from the Midwest where we have a lot of Russian ans Scandinavian influences. Hé wedding march is done by an older married couple who guide the bride & groom, weaving in & out and under then coming back together at the end. Selling of the shoe is done as an auction, but you just put money in for the bride & groom. So for instance if the bid is $800, that’s $800 that ppl collectively have put in not 1 person paying $800. Most of the time the winner drink from the shoe (🤢). There are so many traditions, and you just do the ones you feel comfortable doing!
@scottsmith516 I love As Time Goes By! My husband and I have the DVDs and we've watched this series so many times over the years! Jean and Lionel are wonderful!
The problem with taking ozemlpic for weight loss is they say you can gain twice as much weight back when you stop taking it. I am a pharmacy technician and I know the struggle diabetics are having getting this medication.
Fun podcast guys! I did get triggered a little hearing about people buying that diabetes medicine that don’t need it, because my daughter is a type 1 diabetic, and I know about shortages and high costs of her medicines. I hope people stop buying it for the wrong reasons. ☹️ And Lia, I’ve never been to a Greek wedding before, I’ve only seen them on tv; but I say go for it with the money dance, rake in that cash! 🙂 I can’t wait for the video from it! Love you both! ❤❤❤
There was a thing on the news recently about that here in Australia, people buying it for weight loss thanks to bloody tiktok and causing shortages for people that genuinely need it for diabetes.
Love watching you two !! Please if you ever want to go to the beautiful part of America come see us in Colorado ! See the breathtaking views of the Rocky Mountains ! Stay with us in a rustic cabin in a old mining camp !
They have a version of this money dress thing here in Spain! What you do is put some money in an envelope and then while the speeches are being made a family member comes round to the tables and people put the envelopes in a bowl…..then someone from the table stands up and makes a speech back to the main table. No presents just some cash. Maybe it is a southern European thing??
I subscribed to Brit Box a few months ago and I've been enjoying it so much! I just finished watching Shetand, a detective series based in the beautiful Shetland Islands. It is one of the best series I've ever watched (although at first I had to use closed captions because the accent was hard to follow. I got used to it after a while, lol)
Surely you're seen the movie...My Big Fat Greek Wedding? It was popular here in the US and gives a clue to what to expect. Best wishes! Susan from Texas 🇺🇸
Coincidently, my family was just talking about the wedding dance this past weekend. Years back we were at a wedding where they had the wedding dance. We had no idea what it was, and it seemed very awkward for all involved. Thinking no one there was Greek, so not sure how that idea came up. But if it is a Greek tradition then go for it!
I'm diabetic and I have been taken ozempic for a couple years and yes same over here in Los Angeles , is been unavailable because this "secret" is getting out
My sister and brother in law had a money dance, females paid to dance with him normally and males with her. But for my brother paid to dance with his brother in law. I only made it to their wedding out of the other 4. Due to living overseas for 2 of them, and out of their state for the other 2.
I've heard about the money dress. I've been to weddings that have a "wishing well" into which guests drop money filled envelopes. I'd rather have that than another coffee maker or rice cooker. And don't be embarrassed about people pinning money to you. It's better having the cash pinned to your dress than a bread maker!
My mom used to always refer to my friends as my little friends. It drove me crazy! I was the youngest, but she did this up through junior high school (about 13 years old). It felt dismissive (even though she was generally a very kind woman). If only I had known to tell her she was being c?ondescending! 😂 Dancing for money? Does that mean you can update your resumé to include professional dancer? 💃🕺Brit Box is great! Love the classic shows! 🇬🇧
Lia talking about diabetes medicine which causes weight loss, there is another one that I won't mention the name of because people who are diabetics are having a very hard time getting it.People who don't need it take away from people who do.
@ibosquez5238 The people who are not diabetic use it for quick weight loss, and for obesity patients who have other medications that can help you lose weight, but people who want a quick fix it cuts your appetite, are taking away a medication that could be life saving for a diabetic because it is a new drug it's in limited supply.
We do a money dance, the only thing is we put the money in a cigar box. We used the money for our honeymoon. Before, the person dances with the bride or groom, we take a shot of whiskey! I am Ukrainian and my husband is Slovak.
Hey, I’m loving the vod cast. I think you should just do the money dance and get your cash LOL, your family will love it. Also thank you for saying that your love to be Indian LOL. I am a British Indian and my culture is very vibrant. With beautiful fashion, delicious food and amazing weddings but it’s not all as fun as it seems. As in all cultures there’s always something that is annoying or a weird custom that only if you’re in that culture you would know about it.
Lia, I for one would love to be at your wedding. Sounds like it's going to be amazing and so much fun!! I don't know about British weddings but most of the weddings I have gone to in America I have a hard time knowing if I'm at a Wake or a Celebration, lol. Everyone is dressed in black and white with just a little splash of color thrown in. I have been to one Indian wedding and the colors are so vibrant and all the music and food just screamed at you to have a fantastic time. I hope one day I get to go to a Greek wedding. I hope you and your fiancé have a fantastic wedding, a beautiful honeymoon and lifetime of fun and laughter together. Now as far as Ozempic and other diabetic drugs that are in this drug class. Can you use them for weight loss, I guess if you were willing to take the risk. If I was a healthy person and had no health issues, I would not be willing. I, like your father, have diabetes and I'm morbidly obese, means I'm very fat. These drugs were made to help control my blood sugar, the weight loss is just a plus. There are some very serious side effects that can occur outside of the normal side effects like nausea, gas - sorry Joel I guess your out on taking this drug 🙂. One of the very serious side effects is called hypoglycemia (low blood sugar) which can be deadly. One of the other problems is once you stop the drug without being weaned off of it correctly is you can regain all the weight plus in some studies double the weight back. So please do not take these drugs just to lose a few kilos, do it the right way like you know you should and you can. Love to both of you from the US. 😘
Hi Joel and Lia! I do have a little (lol) feedback for you. This has quickly become the "everything I've ever wanted in a podcast" podcast. The appeal for me is that it's so low key. I don't always want to a learn or analyze or “deeply feel” something while listening to a podcast. Sometimes I just want to be entertained. I want to feel less lonely. I want to be distracted. This podcast feels like the audio version (I usually just listen, rather than watch) of a T.V. show like “Friends.” Where we just listen to two normal people figure out and talk about what’s happening in their lives. No overarching intense theme other than life. So, my advice would be to maybe lean into that a bit? It’s not about “tangents” it’s just about friends catching up and going on adventures. Maybe create an intro about just “two brits” dealing with life: join us as we navigate life, if you want to feel less alone, overwhelmed, or if you just need to realize that sometimes relationships, jobs, and family stress isn’t easy. Sometimes it’s heavy, sometimes it’s light. (You’ll obviously think of something more creative and smooth). Your name even lends itself to this idea because “Those Two Brits” is so generalized, it’s just two British friends who talk about their lives. Especially as, as you've already said, you've decided to create this podcast because people enjoy your tangents when you just talk about random things, which means they just enjoy your friendship. They enjoy your "vibe" and that you invite us to be part of it. I don’t know if this makes sense at all or if others will agree. But I just want to say I love the concept for this podcast SO MUCH, but could be even further refined to make it even better (mainly to make it slightly less confusing to newcomers because it is a pretty unique concept!) Either way, it’s a great listen.
I see people in the comment section asking about “the diet pen”. It’s not a diet pen! I have diabetes type Il, Ozempic is to lower your blood sugar and your A1C. If you don’t have diabetes you could become hypoglycemic or have many more complications taking meds like this. I can’t even take Ozempic because of the history of pancreatic cancer in my family history.
Fast forward to today, l know you both have gone your separate ways..can you both consider doing a holiday get together for us in December. Would love that as a catch up for us?
There's NOTHING wrong with the money dance. It's done in my culture as well. Couples are increasingly wanting money vs. a registry, which is better because the couple will use it for what they need the most!
It was more intimate when y'all just sat next to one another with one camera where we could see both of your reactions at once! Definitely was a less expensive production, but for those of us who feel a bit like your family, we view to visit u and not the “professionalism” of the setup. Happy Homos I think the set up works because it seems more like a talk show and can grow when begin to have guests.
Amanda I know you are asking Lia but maybe I can help. I can tell you that I do not care for Ozempic. I had very bad stomach issues and it made me very gassy plus forced me to go to the bathroom several times a day. Now with that being said, hopefully you'll be one that it works great on. Best advice I can give you is to LISTEN to your stomach and make sure your doctor is listing to you. When your stomach says I'M FULL - STOP EATING!!!!!!!! If you still have stuff on your plate save it for later or throw it away. That has been and still is the hardest lesson in this journey I'm am going through with these types of drugs for my diabetes. I'm am currently on Mounjaro which has been MUCH better for my stomach. I wish you the best of luck on your journey!!!
I guess I misunderstood your relationship with each other. I always thought you , Joel and Lia were a Couple. You both act like you are. So it's interesting how you do these videos together.
At the beginning of the video they both said leave them a comment so here it is, everytime I watch your videos you both have alcohol in hand. The question is are you both drunk before or during your pod cast and how waisted are you. LOL 🙂
Lets get one thing straight - THESE ARE NOT DIET DRUGS!!!! Sorry but I want to make sure you and others understand what these drugs were made for. These were specifically designed for diabetics for help with their blood sugar control, weight loss is just a plus. I've been on Ozempic and now I'm on Mounjaro, which is better for my stomach, for some time. I have not had any weakness in my muscles. I think I know what you are talking about and that is the doctor in Texas screaming about seeing his patients losing too much muscle mass. Here's the rub, you lose both muscle and fat when you lose weight and you will probably lose more muscle in the beginning than fat because fat is harder to get rid of. These drugs are to be used in an overall plan to help you control your blood sugar through healthy eating habits, controlling how MUCH you eat and especially exercise, specifically strength (weight) training to help build muscle. Now there can be some serious side effects, which I will post about to everyone, with these drugs but most side effects have to do with upsetting your stomach and making you feel like you've been blown up with air making you very uncomfortable.
Actually Lia, you (your highest self that agreed [w/ a contract] before you're born]) did fully know your details. Your gender, parents, nationality, friends, job, likes, dislikes,etc.... all part of your soul contract with a mission purpose. Upon birth, you forget your contract to make it fair (for you & everyone that chose to live on Earth) as all have life lessons as part of your mission assignment that your highest self has set to experience and learn from it. This is why people repeat their life lessons over time. If you do not learn a lesson thru the experiences and do not change, you'll repeat until you've mastered it. Then, you can move in6to next life lesson. Everyone of us are a fractal of Source (God). As a fractal, it's not like we are a fraction of God, but, all properties of God is within ourselves. It's like if you take a thimble 9f water from the ocean. The thimble 9f water (though less volume) have all the properties of the ocean water. For Source to experience everything, God needs YOU to experience life thru your lessons and how you mastered the lessons. Though we seem separate from others (illusion) we're all connected. And we all pass all our experiences upstream to Source.
I love both of you, but this new set up is going to take some getting used to. Watching you used to be like hanging with a couple of friends. Now it's like a talk show. All the coziness is gone.
Why would you tell your dad he is a stereotype? Are you offened by your traditions? Your nationality? It's part of your tradition.....you've forgotten where you've come from, that's a pity.
I've been diabetic for 7 years and have lost 80 pounds doing low carb and intermittent fasting. My blood sugar is normal as long as I follow these. I dont need any meds for it. I absolutely love fasting, it is so so helpful to control my blood sugar.

That is such a beautiful way to start a newly married couple's life together. I have never been to a greek wedding but it sounds like a good time! ❤

Btw my mother smashed all our plates in the house too but she wasn't Greek, she was just mad at my dad.😁
You guys should throw a bath robe on for nostalgia. It would be cool

Americans do the money dance, but they give the money to the maid of honor, but we don't make that much money 😂

Does the Maid of Honor keep the money? I’ve never been to a wedding that done it (in America.). I’m aware certain cultures have the dance.

It felt dismissive (even though she was generally a very kind woman). If only I had known to tell her she was being c?ondescending! 😂 Dancing for money? Does that mean you can update your resumé to include professional dancer? 💃🕺Brit Box is great! Love the classic shows! 🇬🇧
❤️ Downtown Abbey and Brideshead Revisited Classic and lusciously British ❤
Omg Joel shud not be wearing socks!
Indian weddings are amazing. And you’ll have really good hair.
Another fun episode.
Lia talking about diabetes medicine which causes weight loss, there is another one that I won't mention the name of because people who are diabetics are having a very hard time getting it.People who don't need it take away from people who do.
They should be ashamed because that's wrong.
@ibosquez5238 The people who are not diabetic use it for quick weight loss, and for obesity patients who have other medications that can help you lose weight, but people who want a quick fix it cuts your appetite, are taking away a medication that could be life saving for a diabetic because it is a new drug it's in limited supply.
always enjoy your show.
I’ve lost 35 pounds on the pen 😅
I'm fine with being Irish and European American. Scandinavian would be fine always like blonde hair and blue eyes.
Fast forward to today, l know you both have gone your separate ways..can you both consider doing a holiday get together for us in December. Would love that as a catch up for us?
For some reason you tube stop recommend your channel to me so I’ve only seen two episodes style podcast so far.
I would never accept food from anybody like that, from a neighbor. I'd suspect it was poisoned.
There's NOTHING wrong with the money dance. It's done in my culture as well. Couples are increasingly wanting money vs. a registry, which is better because the couple will use it for what they need the most!
I’m Mexican American and we have a dollar dance in our culture too! ❤
Do you take credit cards? Watch out for “swipers “
I like the Joel and Lia monikor but prefer Lia and Joel. It sounds better IMO.😛
What's the name of the diet thing?? 🤔
How are his side effects? I'm supposed to start that soon but I'm afraid of the side effects.
Do the custom as you two. Not anyone else
At the beginning of the video they both said leave them a comment so here it is, everytime I watch your videos you both have alcohol in hand. The question is are you both drunk before or during your pod cast and how waisted are you. LOL 🙂
I’ve seen gift + money
❤
Lia’s so far out of Joel’s league, it’s ridiculous!
Be careful with the diet med
Rumor is, it also weakens muscles!
Brits wouldn't share their food because you don't talk to each other...you have.to.be neighborly, but your all to.busy.keeping each to their own.
tiny - That's my little comment.
lil comment
I love both of you, but this new set up is going to take some getting used to. Watching you used to be like hanging with a couple of friends. Now it's like a talk show. All the coziness is gone.
With all due respect, this is "like" quite boring
Hi mi Legends.
I would prefer you two both on one settee with your bath robes on 😏
Why would you tell your dad he is a stereotype? Are you offened by your traditions? Your nationality? It's part of your tradition.....you've forgotten where you've come from, that's a pity.
Picking to become an Indian, would be a downgrade. Lol
Why dont we ever see them together anymore??? This channel is just boring now
Lets be honest .
No one likes ...

You just lost all your Britt followers Lea.
