Nicole & I modeled together for years. She would sing while we were waiting to go on. I knew she would be huge. The PCD's were one thing, but her getting her flowers on Broadway brings me so much joy! 💐 🌹 🌸
I’m glad she was able to appreciate it for what it was/is, because the production is truly fantastic! Such original staging and smart use/integration of media and lighting. Felt like the most interactive and engaging form of theater I’ve seen in a very long time. Nicole is certainly a powerhouse on all fronts. My partner and I have been raving about this since we saw it a few weeks ago. Go see it!
I just saw Sunset Blvd. on Broadway last week, it is a stunning dark production and I can’t stop thinking about it. I saw the original London production many times including with Patti Lupone. This current production is haunting and dealing with the subject matter in the most “unmusical” way imagined. I feel so lucky that I got the chance to experience in person this production, it is a mile stone in the evolution of musical theatre! Run/Fly/Swim to see it if you can!
Kudos to Patti for changing her mind and telling us! I've seen the show too, and the original NY production years ago. This blew me away-the points Patti made once she'd seen it coincided with my own thoughts.
Sadly, the manufactured hype for Audra has already begun. Nicole has no chance now. She would have won if she weren't in competition with Miss 7th Tony this year.
Don't wait for a recording of this, it's not like Hamilton that can be easily recorded. You need to be in the theatre to really appreciate this masterpiece of a production, it's something else entirely
oh im not suggesting people wait for a recording. But obviously, there's many around the world that won't be able to make it to NYC over the next 7 months. My thought is for people to be able to still see Nicole in the role after she leaves the show.
@@denhamable Saw early previews of Gypsy. It’s traditional and a bit boring. I looked at my watch quite a few times. Didn’t need to be almost 3 hours. Audra was fine, but I think Nicole is better. She shouldn’t get the Tony for being Audra.
Glenn Close was very good during her initial run without question but the greatest portrayal was that of the legendary Diahann Carroll during the Canadian tour! Vocally she was magnificent! Ms. Carroll's performances were theatrically superb and unmatched! 🎭🎶⭐️
@yoyodre . . . Hmmm . . . Other than the fact that Trump won the election, I can't say that I am. Then again, upon further observation, I have to confess that I AM MAD about the fact that I have to look at his ugly mug for the next 4 years. 💋
My guy! You look so uncomfortable, what happened? You look so very tired, maybe a voiceover would’ve done it! There’s no need to appear on camera every single time but I (and bet we all) can appreciate the effort
Lupone still hasn't gotten over the SB fiasco she was at the heart of. She praises the new show, but can't help to take digs at this or that. You'd think that a wealthy, famous, celebrated star pushing 80 would learn to let go of all that bitterness. I mean, she still hold grudges with ALW and still fuels the fires of the one-sided Madonna feud she created in her own head.
I thought she was honest about it. A lot of people had concerns until they saw it. She put her inherent bias aside and still praised this production even with ALW involved.
She was honest. And ALW continues to pull his shenanigans with his casts…look at what he did to Cinderella. She is right to still talk about men who abuse their power in the theater.
ALW is a beast and a very cagey business man. He's done more shady things to his casts, stars, and partners. He creates art, but he also creates chaos and drama. Patti is entitled to her opinions based on real life experiences with him. Your opinions seem based on the Internet. I'll side with her on this one.
@@barbraseville8984 Patti acknowledged her bias yet STILL loved the production. Would it be better to rave and not acknowledge the bias? That means it’s outstanding.
I've never seen the play but have seen the movie countless times. It's definitely top three for me. I understand that this is a revival and also that things in a live production would be imagined differently from the movie (the play and movie versions of Wicked certainly stray heavily from the book), but the entire premise of the movie is about an aging actress seeking a comeback and the actress in this play looks maybe 30. So the play must have a completely different theme then? Honest question.
No, the musical is an adaptation of the movie with stunning vocals and presentation. Nicole is about the same age as Patti when she performed it. It incorporates moving making into the production. It’s must-see theatre.
It got the same characters theme and songs but presented in a groundbreaking visionary direction you have to watch it onstage to fully appreciate and embrace the production . It is the best thrilling production I have seen in my lifetime I watched Glen Close and others portray Norma Desmond and was satisfied with one performance however this Jamie Lloyd revival is lingers in your memory constantly especially Nicole that you long to see it again . I saw SB twice in London last year and three times in Broadway recently but am clamoring to watch it soon just likes many others . Patti ‘s gracious compliments is a validation of Nicole ‘s massive talents ditto with Tom et Al and the production crew . “ Bring out the old, bring in the new “!!!
If Patti says it’s good then it is good coming from a past Norma to the now Norma her praises are classy and gracious and is a validating recognition of Nicole ‘s gargantuan talents onstage ditto with Tom and the rest of the production crew and Patti was energized after watching the show haha . It truly is a genius stage production!!😀😀
Nicole is phenomenal like above beyond in another galaxy from Patti, in fact Id rank past performers as: #1 Nicole #2 Glenn Close #3 Barbra Streisand #4 Patti! Cut print Tony 4 Nicole - edited!
That’s the point. Who wants to see the same thing over and over again. I was skeptical as well until I saw it. You get the same music you know and love in a really unique way. We need new ways to tell stories to get folks to the theaters.
@3l3llala13 it's well known bit she's not the end all, I saw her portrayal of it and she falls short compared to Glenn Close. She can be salty all she wants but no one remembers her for S.B.

This review means more to a lot of people than Jesse Greene's and I love that
Jesse Green loved the awkward problematic production of Gypsy. That should tell us something.
How iconic would it have been if Patti saw her being filmed and stopped the performance to yell at that person🤣😂
She was transfixed like the test if the audience and didn’t notice someone was recording her !!

@nicoletrudell2065 you can't read. I'm referring to her experience in the 90s not this version. Captain genius.
Of course people think of Patti when Sunset Boulevard is mentioned in a conversation. SHE originated the role. "cokes"?
She comes out the stage door looking like Carrie in blood?
Well, like Patti herself said, there's no accounting for taste. BUT THEN............I'm an old school purist.
This reinforces everything I've ever thought about LuPone...and not in a good way.
I saw her version. She's not all that herself. She needs to check herself.
So, from Nicole Scherzinger's look at the end of the show: Is norma now a literal vampire, sucking the blood out of Joe at the end??
Yeah, none of it makes sense, because Jamie Lloyd is an idiot.
Yes, that's exactly what happens.
Lol! I think I like this headcanon over what actually happens. Haha! Norma is a vampire and Joe is a zombie!
Patti has a better voice. But, she was too young at the time when she did Sunset Blvd.
Wasn't she the same age as Glenn and Nicole when they did/are doing their runs?
Patti really is a jerk.
She’s a jerk for supporting and praising a show along with someone’s performance in a role she originated?? Okay…
@bookemdano7567 there are many examples of her being an ahole over the years. Usually she's bitter about roles she's played.
I used to love Nicole, and I’m happy that she’s gotten a role that makes her shine- but I really can’t look past her politics and people she aligns with.
