The zig clean colors are water based. They're almost like a watercolor. Kuretake, the company that makes the pen, actually suggests using water to blend the colors and give a more "watercolor effect" :D
18:20 i used a copic liner to outline a water color piece on watercolor paper and let it dry for about three days and it still picked up loose ink when i was treating the paper. just a heads up for anyone planning on using watercolors with copic liners!
if you want to avoid those broken lines, squeeze on the barrel of the pen a bit (the black part that houses the ink) so you get a deeper colour and better coverage
I have the faber-castell PITT brush pen and the Pigma brush pen, and I find that my faber-castell pen's nib really worn down after just a few weeks of using it and that it no longer had a pointy tip. Wouldn't recommend it.
+AddictedToArt The faber castell nib is double sided. You can take a piece of paper towel and pull it out and use the other side! They also make big brush pens and I use those to do large fill which is less stressful on the smaller pen's nib.
Siobhan Hehe yay! I was also thinking of making a video about buying Copics in the UK exclusively, because I've had experience buying from all over too hah. I don't see many people talking about UK prices.
There's actually 80 Zig Kuretake Clean Color brush pen colors. You can buy them in sets of 12, 24, 48 and 60, but all 80 colors are available individually.
Please give us a couple more good still frames to look at when you are trying to show an item. Waving it about makes it hard to look at. Otherwise, thanks for all the info. I'll be trying the Pentel brush pen on your recommendation.
I love cult pens! Thats where I bought my cheap refillable fountain pens, refillable pens changed the way I look at supplies and refills. I have lost one of my fountain pens, so looks like I can arrange a trip to their site ;D
She did say that it being water reactive isn't a draw back. She did it could be used for different effects and could be nice depending on what you want. She's just showing what they do.
Haha, well you have to keep in mind that the Zig Clean Colors are meant to be used like watercolor. They're essentially a watercolor marker, if you've used one before? ^^
Thanks for the helpful video! :D I have one of those super big brush pens, I believe they are more often used for shadow lines in manga work and less for the bulk work of lining but I agree they feel so dry sometimes and it's hard to get enough ink on the tip to work with. Still pretty neat though. Also I have also really loved the faber castell brand so I might pick up some of their liners since I know where to get them locally at least!
Torotix Yeah I was wondering if it was just me or my pen, but it would definitely be better for colouring with rather than inking. I was really hoping it would be a similar pen to the Pentel Brush Pen but with coloured ink ;n;
I haven't needed to replace my copic sp brush pen nib, but I've destroyed a lot of the pigma ones. I think the tips are actually similar because they're made of felt. I don't use my copic brush pen on toothy paper or the rough side of bristol, but I will with the pigma. Also with the pentel color brush you need to store it cap side down and you can actually squeeze the reservoir to get more ink out, but be careful because it stains fabric really bad.
If you let the Pentel Brush Pen dry long enough it`s also water proof. But it takes a long time to dry completely. I use this one a lot for my watercolour sketches as well as the Faber-Castell PITT brush pens.
I believe you forgot ん while you were writing 今何時ですか。either way おつかれさまでした ;D I was debating if I should buy the Kuretake pen. I was told they had the same property as water colors . Thank you very much for the reviews!
Little Cat AH you're right, I KNEW it looked off! For some reason, my biggest error in writing is always missing out a ん, I don't know why I do it :T どうもありがとうございます!! You're welcome! Yeah they seem very water based, and would make great watercolour effects, but they're also super good for Copics too it seems :) I used it again recently and I loved it!
Have you ever tried the Kuretake Fudegokochi ? I discovered it thanks to Will Terrell and I fell in love with it. it's a brush so you can play with the nib but it's stiffer than a pentel brush (which I own too but I find it a little bit too flexible...) Thanks a lot for the test, it's really helpful ! I had troubles of smudging using copic with faber castel pitt brush, and I wondered what I could use that doesn't bleed... So thanks again !
Kawell et ses Livres (Coda-leia) Oooh I haven't, but I have got some Fude brush pens, they're amazing (I like to write with them) and the stiffer nib is soo useful for detailing! I'll have to have a look at that one too! No worries :D
Just as an aside, you have a good voice for videos and you don't need to fill in with the electronic music. In fact, I think it actually distracts from your presentation.
I have a brush pen, got it for Easter, and I was so excited to use it I didn't test it, and as soon as I went to use my watercolours on it....it bled. I was not happy!!!!
I almost took the Pentel color brush back to the store yesterday, but then I found a commenter who pointed out that in Japan, things screw on and off in the opposite direction from the U.S. So instead of "righty-tighty, lefty-loosey," it was the other way. And I finally got the red band off and got it started.
Thanks for the info! Have you ever tried the Pigma Sensei pens? I use them in drawings and they seem to hold up to water and copic, but fade a little when I erase.
Just one thing about the pentel brush, it works exactly as the one you like ( the black one) but because you are using it a few times you have press too much the ink, that's what happened to me, but then its just amazing . Btw I like this vid :)
***** I mean that the first time you use it you have to press the ink in order for it to work properly, but then you don´t need to press it often because you´ll overcharged the ink and the thin part will be thicker. I hope you understand me and hope it is useful.
Weird. In my own testing I've gotten smearing when I used Copic with the Pentel Pocket Brush pen and Faber Castel Pitt Pens. I may need to do more testing with different paper.
hehe, you wrote "naji" in stead of "nanji" 😄 otherwise, this is a really good review of brush pens! i've been thinking about getting one of these to line my drawings 😊👍 thanks for this video
seems like copic failed quite a bit at their expensive fineliners XD thanks so much for the comparisons Jellie Bee i was searching for brushpens on the site called jetpens and saw and article that made my head spin!! so many brushpens! luckly this gave a great view of what are the best ones to buy!
Pinkflower09 Yeeah the SPs are perfect except for the brush one ;n; such a let down! I'm SO glad it helped, I made the video after not being able to find anything comparing brush pens last year :'D
14:25 Doofus! You need to squeeze the barrel from time to time to ensure a smooth ink flow. Maybe I can't read Japanese, but I can read pictures and it says so in the small leaflet that comes with it.
Thanks so much for the awesome video! It was very helpful! But I was wondering how you learned japanese, like did you teach yourself? (if so, how did you?) Or maybe you had a teacher or something, I don't know. But anyway, thx so much for the video!
I'm extremely confused by how badly the sakura brush smeared with water, i have the sakura microns, and they are super watertight, even before i let them dry. it might be caused by how much more ink the brush pen is leaving behind.
Does the Pentel brush pen work fine with coloured pencils? I have Caran D'ache's as well as Spectrum Noir's, so I swap between the two, but I was wondering whether the ink fades any.
I was shopping for watercolor a when I found a pack of 8 multicolored Sakura pigma brush pens and with a 50% coupon got then for like $10! I'm so excited! Thank you for making this video!
i am really confused now D; my faber castell smudges soooooo much when using my winsor&newton markers. and the lines always end up way lighter when i erase my pencil sketch
Happy Dude I'm not sure about Singapore at all I'm afraid, I've only bought stuff in either Hong Kong or Japan. You'd definitely get all these and more in Japan!!
+Jellie Bee, you should try the Sakura pigma professional brush pen, I heard that it's pretty good and it come with different sizes yo got 3 of them for the price of 1 Pentel brush pen 😅😚
it may sound stupid but why dont you try a real brush with Indian inks if you want to try different colours. i no its not as convenient as pens but you get the effects you want and you can get waterproof inks. many comic artists use brushes rather than pens.
hoshikou I find brush pens far more convenient! I do my commissions at conventions in these pens and it'd be really annoying to get out bottles of ink :) As I'm more illustrative than comic, I don't need to use them constantly, so the cost of refills isn't an issue, and the convenience far outweighs anything.
I do already buy pretty much all my pens though Cultpens already. They have fast delivery rates. Normally I get my stuff within 2 business days at the latest. I have never had a problem ordering though them. I am in love with the Pentel Brush Pen. First I brought the Copic brush...I tried to get on with it but it just very nice to use. Then I brought the Pentel and it was amazing. It was a lot better then the Copic. I have gone though about 2 refills on it already... I do most of my sketches in it at the moment. It just a lot of fun and you can get some really good washes with it. I do write a lot Japanese in my classes and the Pilot Petit Fude Brush Pen is a really good one to write with. Don't worry about your Japanese at all. 良い一日を
Mitsuki Kouyama ありがとうございます、 あなたも! 私の日本語はへたです、 すみません! Yeah! I thought the Copic one was great at first and then wow just...the Pentel one is beyond amazing! The Petit are sooo cute ♥ Yeah Cult Pens are always so fast! This time I got free pencils and sweets with my order :0
Jellie Beeそれを思い悩んだって無駄だよ. No use worrying about your Japanese! It does take years to become fluent and its not horrible at the moment. Keep up the hard work! 頑張って.
I'm a beginner artist who really wants a nice brush pen, but I don't want one that will bleed through the paper too much. Can anyone recommend one that at least doesn't have an awful bleed?
pentel pocket brush pen. synthetic hair, refillable, permanent marker. lasts a long time and like that person ^ said, quite pricey but definitely worth it.
Mentarumori Miya Haha yeah, someone told me. I always do that when writing ima nanji desuka - I don't know why but my brain doesn't add in that n - if you saw my Japanese workbook its like me scribbling it in everywhere hahaha.
Jellie Bee i find them a bit difficult too :3 i print out trace sheets to learn them, they're really helpful :D there are also kanji books that cost around £15
You should try the kuretake the ones with actual brushes are the #8 #13 #40 and #50 the 40 and 50 have sable hair bristles and the 8 and 3 have synthetic fibers. I just ordered a pentel pocket brush pen and a Kuretake #8 can't wait to try them. One review I read said the #8 is like the #13 just without as sturdy of build but its a lot cheaper. I also heard the Sailor brush pen is pretty decent. Jetpens.com is great for all kind of items you can get some of these on Dickblick.com also.
the smudging :3 i know copics are alcohol based- i'm just curios if you rubbed rubbing alcohol to the ink~ maybe it'll give a stronger effect? or a colourless blender!
Yaoi Queen i mean drip alcohol to the inks instead of copics. The hypothesis is it'll give a stronger effect than an alcohol marker. ^_^ Theres techniques with watercolor when that includes dripping rubbing alcohol to the art. I'm asking because i tend to do multi media art a lot :3
The zig clean colors are water based. They're almost like a watercolor. Kuretake, the company that makes the pen, actually suggests using water to blend the colors and give a more "watercolor effect" :D
Just saying the zig brush is a colouring tool and it is water reactive so that's why it smeared:)
I love the noise of the caps coming on and off :))
Same xDDD
lol me 2
HOLD THE FRONT DOOR
my pentel brush pen is always immediately waterproof like from the second i put it on paper
this confuses me
But I wanna close the Goddamn door.
Melvin BUT I WANT IT HELD OPEN!!
+Melvin Dammit Melvin always closing the door
+Yuri dontwannasaylastname Haven't you people ever heard of closing the goddamn door???
i specifically asked for it to be held
18:20 i used a copic liner to outline a water color piece on watercolor paper and let it dry for about three days and it still picked up loose ink when i was treating the paper. just a heads up for anyone planning on using watercolors with copic liners!
CelestialRamen I use Copic liners for watercolors and have never had this problem
if you want to avoid those broken lines, squeeze on the barrel of the pen a bit (the black part that houses the ink) so you get a deeper colour and better coverage
was scrolling through all the comments, to see if someone pointed this out
Exactly! That's the whole point of having a squeezable soft barrel. To control the flow of the ink.
The Zig brush pens are actually watercolor pens which is why they aren't waterproof.
I have the faber-castell PITT brush pen and the Pigma brush pen, and I find that my faber-castell pen's nib really worn down after just a few weeks of using it and that it no longer had a pointy tip. Wouldn't recommend it.
My pigma brush pen nib also worn down after a few week using it 😬
ah I was really thinking of getting one
Shiiitttttt I was planning to get it
+AddictedToArt The faber castell nib is double sided. You can take a piece of paper towel and pull it out and use the other side! They also make big brush pens and I use those to do large fill which is less stressful on the smaller pen's nib.
I have had the faber castel brush pen for so long
you made accidental sunglasses.
Dustin McFarland Lol i saw that also
8^)
+Cassandra Lykke sawako!!!
that's what i thought
I just ordered a pack of six black Zig pens! I'm so excited and it'll be my first brush pen!
You don't understand how happy I am to hear a youtuber talking in pounds for once 😂
Zig clean colors are waterbased im pretty sure
Monster Clay they are
thank you so much, I'm getting blick markers soon and watched this to see which pen to ink with and this helped very well!
The zig clean colour pen is meant to be used as a watercolour marker not an outliner pen + great vid
You're like one of my favourite artists on TH-cam. I love how informative your videos are. Don't worry about them being long, they're very helpful! c:
Kagoe Aaah you're so nice, thank you!!! I do worry a lot about the length :
Please give us a couple more good still frames to look at when you are trying to show an item. Waving it about makes it hard to look at. Otherwise, thanks for all the info. I'll be trying the Pentel brush pen on your recommendation.
I love cult pens! Thats where I bought my cheap refillable fountain pens, refillable pens changed the way I look at supplies and refills.
I have lost one of my fountain pens, so looks like I can arrange a trip to their site ;D
it's a bit unfair to use the zig water brush because that's a watercolour pen -_-
+GBDraws I was thinking the same thing. I especially LOVE the Zig Millennium 05 Liners ^-^
Amélie May me too
She did say that it being water reactive isn't a draw back. She did it could be used for different effects and could be nice depending on what you want.
She's just showing what they do.
Haha, well you have to keep in mind that the Zig Clean Colors are meant to be used like watercolor. They're essentially a watercolor marker, if you've used one before? ^^
I've got a pentel color brush, and I've noticed the same thing, where you have to go over it multiple times to get a good color
The zig clean colors actually come in 60 or so colors now!
Natasha Tjeng I think they have a pack of 80
the zig clean color is a watercolor marker. and im pretty sure the color brush is not supposed to be water resistent.
Omg when this video came out I was 14,I used to watch it soo many times, not sure why😅,the music is soo nostalgic 💗🍓
Thanks for the helpful video! :D

The zig pen is meant to be used with water for water color paintings
I almost took the Pentel color brush back to the store yesterday, but then I found a commenter who pointed out that in Japan, things screw on and off in the opposite direction from the U.S. So instead of "righty-tighty, lefty-loosey," it was the other way. And I finally got the red band off and got it started.
If you want the Pentel Colour Brush to work better, you have to squeeze it a bit so more fluid comes closer to the tip.
That was it will be very wet.
Oh! The reason the Zig ones did that with water is because they're meant for mixing with water. They're basically watercolor pens from what I read.
Jae Nicole Yeah I've heard that, still my search for a coloured brush inking pen continues!
Love that pink mini fude pen! :) great video :) thankyouuuu
Clare614 sooo cute ♥ thank you!!
Thanks for the info! Have you ever tried the Pigma Sensei pens? I use them in drawings and they seem to hold up to water and copic, but fade a little when I erase.
Gradysama I haven't :0 they sound cool though!
Just one thing about the pentel brush, it works exactly as the one you like ( the black one) but because you are using it a few times you have press too much the ink, that's what happened to me, but then its just amazing .
Btw I like this vid :)
Vivian Arce I'm about to receive, can you explain a bit further the "what to not do with it" ?
I will use it for calligraphy

i was recently looking into brush pens and i was wondering what kind of pens i should buy that are cheap and good for beginners
hehe, you wrote "naji" in stead of "nanji" 😄
otherwise, this is a really good review of brush pens! i've been thinking about getting one of these to line my drawings 😊👍 thanks for this video
the zig cleancolor brush pens are watercolor marker so thats why they can almost blend away Also Jellibee I love yur channel
The zig clean colour are supposed to be used with water they work as a watercolour when used with water. You can see on Doodle Dates video on them.
I made this video like nearly two years before I even saw Doodle Date, ahaha. I love how much they've grown, I'm so proud of them!
i feel like cult pens is the British version of jet pens
I have the Sakura Brush Pen. I really do like it, but it does wear out fadt. (at least it did for me)
seems like copic failed quite a bit at their expensive fineliners XD

I'm extremely confused by how badly the sakura brush smeared with water, i have the sakura microns, and they are super watertight, even before i let them dry. it might be caused by how much more ink the brush pen is leaving behind.
What do These Kanji that you wrote with the Platinum and Pilot Fude Pen mean?
Which one would be best for inking really thin lines and small details?
KATIEKAT I would say that a fude brush pen would work best!
kuretake zig clean color is supposed to be a water color marker soooooo yeah
thinflare I think she knows but she ways saying some things that you might be able to use
Samsung mmm yeah ok
I think the Zig Clean Colour ones are watercolors actually?? I'm not sure though.
+Chintya C Oh that would be cool :0
Can the koi ones be refilled? How?
Had you ever use dip pens before?
Does the Pentel brush pen work fine with coloured pencils? I have Caran D'ache's as well as Spectrum Noir's,
so I swap between the two, but I was wondering whether the ink fades any.
+Knock Em Dead Darling I don't see why not! It's a good strong ink, but its not very water resistant :)
Ah, perfect then! I'll make sure too keep my Aquarelle pencils and watercolour's away from it then :')
I was shopping for watercolor a when I found a pack of 8 multicolored Sakura pigma brush pens and with a 50% coupon got then for like $10! I'm so excited! Thank you for making this video!
Lov Jinxx WOOOW thats so cheap!!! Lucky :D You're welcome, enjoy them!
_5 years! Woah..._
Thanks for this info, I needed the basics. I enjoyed listening to you. you come across as a really nice lass :- )
+Gazgandalf Thank you so much!!
can i use acrylic paint on a refillable brush pen?
Probably not as you need a super thin liquid to go through the pen itself. Even some inks wont go through a brush pen nib.
i am really confused now D; my faber castell smudges soooooo much when using my winsor&newton markers. and the lines always end up way lighter when i erase my pencil sketch
Iris the same happens for me :/
Zig Clean Color markers are used as water color markers too not just normal markers
Thanks, though this vidieo I like pentel Brush pocket pen most. I don't see it in red color in a market.
Hello! I have done some research about those faber castell pitt pens. Ive heard that the brush worns out quickly and is it true?
+Joyce Nguyen Mine are still fine :0 I guess it depends on how someone uses them
+Jellie Bee Thank you!
Hey jellie bee I was wondering have heard of Faber-Castell Ecco Pigment pen?
VenicePlaysAndDraw I haven't! :0 What are they like?
Sorry late reply...
They are like Faber-Castell PITT pen but cheaper:)
The only thing bothering me with your Japanese is that you don't start with the horizontal strokes, otherwise you have really good penmanship.
You can use a syringe and fountain pen ink to refill the ink cartridges for the Pentel pen.
OHMEGOSH THANK YOU I FEEL SO STIPID FOR NOT THINKING OF THIS
+Sarcastic Sēji lol the things you think of when you've had diabetes since you were 9 and have syringes all over the house. ;)

I looove brush pens so this was so incredibly helpful ;o; Your japanese is so cute :') Ahaha Bumble as well :'D Thanks so much for sharing!
theflufffball Me too, I've always been kinda...intimidated by them though, if that makes sense?? hahaha
You can get grey refills for Pentel brush pens
Oh my goodness! From where?

I tried using water color pencils, ruined my drawing xD
Happy Dude I'm not sure about Singapore at all I'm afraid, I've only bought stuff in either Hong Kong or Japan. You'd definitely get all these and more in Japan!!
Oh I just ordered the copic multiline brush pen :/ does anyone have positive experience with it?
* tumbleweed rolls by *
Why does no one ever talk about the pilot pocket brush pen? It's great
Loove this!! Thank you ;w;
Woah.. You're even cooler! >///< you taught yourself Japanese! Wow I wish I could do that.
Abviously micron pens are water proof. Right? >,< cuz im getting basic markers soon then ill get copic markers :P
+brianna roseheart I've heard Microns are waterproof yep, but not tested them!
+Jellie Bee this video is so helpful, I love brush tip and brush pen but I don't know which one to get so thanks ( I'll get the micron )
+Jellie Bee, you should try the Sakura pigma professional brush pen, I heard that it's pretty good and it come with different sizes yo got 3 of them for the price of 1 Pentel brush pen 😅😚
+Jellie Bee it's more professional than the microns 😘😍

What brush pen would you recommend
+Ellie Ashley Any! I love all brush pens, but my favourite pen is the Pentel Brush Pen - I prefer ink and brush though!
Is it better to have peter brush pen if your left handed and does it smudge quickly!?
I ment pentel
+Ellie Ashley hi this might not matter but the ink smudges a lot! That's just my experience though
I'm a beginner artist who really wants a nice brush pen, but I don't want one that will bleed through the paper too much. Can anyone recommend one that at least doesn't have an awful bleed?
My fabercastell brush pen's (B) have never bled, and they aren't too expensive either.
Knock Em Dead Darling thank you :)
No problem!
The zig brush pen is water based it's meant for water it's not meant to be water resistant
Halp... Please someone recommend me a good pen (preferably refillable), that does not have real animal fur and is good for beginners, thanks.
Definitely try the father castell, I feel as that brush gives me the most control and its not that expensive!
pentel pocket brush pen. synthetic hair, refillable, permanent marker. lasts a long time and like that person ^ said, quite pricey but definitely worth it.
The Pentel Brush Felt-Tip Sign pen. It has a rather small and harder tip so you can control it better.
Sally Smith Pentel color brush. Is cheap.
try kuretake no.40 with real hair - this is really the best
You wrote ima na ji desuka
It should be ima nan ji desuka :3
Mentarumori Miya Haha yeah, someone told me. I always do that when writing ima nanji desuka - I don't know why but my brain doesn't add in that n - if you saw my Japanese workbook its like me scribbling it in everywhere hahaha.
Jellie Bee i use the kanji instead :3
今何時ですか
I really struggle writing Kanji, its not just the stroke order its just they end up so much bigger haha. Practice is needed!!
Jellie Bee i find them a bit difficult too :3
i print out trace sheets to learn them, they're really helpful :D
there are also kanji books that cost around £15
+Mentarumori Miya late reply is late but where can you get Kanji books at that price? :0
still learning Japanese but I saw when you wrote Japan. :)
Great video
Tbh you sound a lot like my art teacher😂
You should try the kuretake the ones with actual brushes are the #8 #13 #40 and #50 the 40 and 50 have sable hair bristles and the 8 and 3 have synthetic fibers. I just ordered a pentel pocket brush pen and a Kuretake #8 can't wait to try them. One review I read said the #8 is like the #13 just without as sturdy of build but its a lot cheaper. I also heard the Sailor brush pen is pretty decent. Jetpens.com is great for all kind of items you can get some of these on Dickblick.com also.
When's the ice cream truck going to leave?
never mwahahaha
I kind of like the Copic brush pen. I can get good lines out of it. It's not as fun as the pentel pen, however.
Jellie Bee I know! haha
Can anyone recommend a cheap black pen that is cheap? In England
poundland ball point pen or 32 set pens
sorry i meant brush pen
Ben Tones in London there's a shop called Cassarts they're really cheap
I'm a new viewer, so I was wondering, who is Bumble? :3
+Miss Shadow Bumble is my budgie :D I have two - Bumble is yellow and Pixel is blue!
Jellie Bee Ohhhhhh.. Now that I think about it, that makes a lot of sense xD
I wanna try brush pens
if u want, try using a normal pen dipped in ink.
what does that say
really helpful video! thnx!
WeirdEldy Thank you ;u;
Ahhhh i should probably wait longer
what if instead of copics you could use rubbing alcohol? :3
+Catherine Katswell For what? :0
the smudging :3 i know copics are alcohol based- i'm just curios if you rubbed rubbing alcohol to the ink~ maybe it'll give a stronger effect? or a colourless blender!
aya mohamed Yeah dw I've been told what they're for now :) Thats why I created my more recent brush pen video
If adding rubbing alcohol to a copic to refill the ink will ruin the color. It won't be the same color. Baylee Jae has a video where she does it.
Yaoi Queen i mean drip alcohol to the inks instead of copics. The hypothesis is it'll give a stronger effect than an alcohol marker. ^_^
Theres techniques with watercolor when that includes dripping rubbing alcohol to the art. I'm asking because i tend to do multi media art a lot :3
