  • Wales held on to see off a battling Fiji side and win their third consecutive game of the Rugby World Cup.
    Wales suffered a scare as they took one step nearer the quarter-finals thanks to two tries and a towering kicking performance from Dan Biggar edging them home 23-13 at the Millennium Stadium on Thursday.
    Although Wales failed to secure the valuable bonus point they now top Pool A after tries from Gareth Davies and Scott Baldwin gave them a 17-3 half-time lead in an enthralling battle with the Pacific Islanders.
    Fiji fought back in a relentless display of power and pace in the second half when Vereniki Goneva (pictured above) touched down from a sweeping move triggered by a fumble from Wales wing Alex Cuthbert. Ben Volavola finally found his shooting boots to secure the conversion despite missing three earlier penalties.
    But just as as Fiji launched a comeback, Biggar showed his composure with a huge penalty from near the halfway line to give Wales a 20-13 lead in the 55th minute as the match hung in the balance.
    However, Biggar eased the pressure with his third penalty of the match before going off suffering cramp. Job done but only just. Wales launched one last assault as Davies burrowed over the line but the TMO ruled that he failed to touch down. Wales can now sit back and watch England battle it out with Australia.

    Fiji are getting really good. Wales were only at 80%, still recovering from that English game. Despite that this game could of gone the other way. Great respect to Fiji

      +Slim Shredzy the South Africa vs Scotland was better IMO. Although this try was quite good as well; perhaps they are equally as good? I wouldn't be one to judge.

      +Benitera Koroijiuta I have never seen the Welsh team look so exhausted and battered after a game. Fiji are a team of warriors and good things lay ahead for them. They had the whole of Wales very, very nervous and if your giant winger was playing I think there would have been a different outcome.

      +Benitera Koroijiuta Best wishes to Fiji, from Wales :) If Fiji weren't in the hardest group ever in a world cup, Fiji might have qualified for the 1/4 finals: rightly ranked top 10 in the world, anyway.

    Fiji is definitely an improving team in the World 15 aside but more funding needs to be raised on training and coaching. They will always remain one of the best or if not the Best in the shorter format of the game.

    I wish the Pacific island nations had a combined team like the West Indies do in cricket. That would be such and exciting team to watch! They could even join the Rugby Championship.

      +striker161 It could well be however it will not work out since there will be too much cultural differences.Each of the Pacific nations are potentially capable of being competitive however it will only improve as they get more funding for program development and more opportunity to play established teams like NZ, SA, AUS, Eng etc at International level.

      We already had the PI team in 2004, 06 and 08. It's just pointless, we're capable of being good as individual nations. we didn't do any better than we do when we field full strength teams. In fact we probably played worse as the PI team, the only win we got was against Italy. We do need a team in a top club league though so we can develop local players. Like what has happened with Japan getting a team in Super Rugby.

    Good game , Wales a bit to untidy at times played into the hands of fiji, a few missed tackles but apart from that the defensive line was good and put fiji under pressure, need to sort the scrum it did get a bit better with jarvis and lee later on , ill be putting my green and gold on for saturday night CMON AUSTRALIA

    • @Nikoenig
      @Nikoenig 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +FatBlazeStumpy you can't stay on your feet when people are pushing you. And that part is even irelevant when the Welsh play is literally and on purpouse lying on top of the ball preventing Fiji from actively playing it.
      Penalty against Wales for not liberating the ball.

    • @Nikoenig
      @Nikoenig 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Mark Whippy the dude who prevents Fiji from playing the ball? Yes he was, imo.

    • @FatBlazeStumpy
      @FatBlazeStumpy 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      ball comes out of scrum, Fiji SH gathers. Faletau rips the ball in open play from Fiji SH. Tries to present the ball. Fiji go over the top. What are you lot watching?
      If anything, the ref was poor the whole game. Penalising Wales in a lineout for pushing (which didn't happen) comes to mind. Forward passes missed etc.
      What do you expect with Irish referees though!

    Victory by Red Dragons means England is one step closer to the exit. Australia is too strong for England.

    • @pythonbyte
      @pythonbyte 9 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      +Darvid Koh Wales are burned out already so if England win against Oz, those red dragons aren't getting to the KO stages.

    • @Carterthorn90
      @Carterthorn90 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +pythonbyte Hahaha, even if we're burned out and injured, we've still won against three teams who were fully fit. To be frankly honest, it's showing that the other teams are pretty darn shocking. So have a think about that. And England winning against Australia? Dream on.

    • @deanhudson9917
      @deanhudson9917 9 ปีที่แล้ว

      +Darvid Koh you do realise if England beat Australia then England are through as long as they get the bonus try against Uruguay which I cant see why they wouldn't .
