Enjoyed the video. I've had the pleasure of being up front a couple of times in DLs. Interesting to see the view and both times, the LE's were very professional and patient in answering my questions.
@@rolandpenhall4526 Lol I imagine you arse was not at ease😂😂😂 I remember as a ten year old?? going over the old Mangaweka Viaduct in DX in the daytime…., just seemed completely wrong to have this immense Loco balancing n rocking in these two rails… so far in the air…🤯
9:31 If someone is coming through the tunnel the other way the impact might almost knock your drink over. :D Some of this line looks like it needs some serious TLC. Great footage though! :D Thanks for sharing it! :D
Some of the infrastructure through the Manawatu gorge and central Hawkes Bay was in a pretty poor state when this was shot. At some stage; money is going to have to be spent on replacing or repairing those old timber bridges and laying fresh concrete sleepers. Especially now the road on the other side is history. That will allow for faster running times though.
@@__Lachie A lot of it is due to the NZ voting electorate. Most Kiwis born after 1970 have little to no experience in using railways, they’re not a part of their life experience like with older generations. NZ likes to think of itself as progressive and modern but it is actually rather backward and narrow-minded.
@@danieleyre8913 yes you’re probably right there. It’s a shame too because a well maintained and comprehensive rail network would take thousands of people and hundreds of thousands of tonnes off of our roads, making them last longer and less congested. I caught the tail end of passenger railway, going to Napier etc to see my grandma and I have fond memories.

@1peter kahui Well... ...John Key and every other NZ PM since about the 1940s.
I agree that John Key sucked though.
Yeah right why would they want spend, money on something useful instead of stupid non useful stuff
@@danieleyre8913 and still today. Sadly no one seems to want to invest in rail. “Get New Zealand back on road” 😢

25:17 or so - that's a dodgy looking number just waiting for the borer/termites/weevils to shake hands.
Ha, Ha, Yes.
It is not 48 minutes it's 49 minutes
