I saw a number of Voyageur games that year. I was at a game where Larry pulled his teammate out of a fight to take on Terry O'Reilly and start throwing the haymakers. I was 15 at the time, and was lucky enough to see many many Canadienne Greats as they started their careers there. Then they dominated the league for about a decade.
Before the 1971-72 season - after playing parts of 4 seasons in Oakland with the Seals - Mike Laughton (the first player interviewed) was traded to the Montreal Canadiens, who sent him to the Nova Scotia Voyageurs. After hoisting the Calder Cup, he went to the WHA for three seasons.
Every opposing coach said Don't wake him up. My dad watched Robby take Schultz down in that famous fight and the Dornhoefer hit Dryden described in his book when the Forum maintenance crew had to pry the boards back after Larry lowered the boom. Thanks for sharing this.

@@david-ow3nv He won the Stanley Cup in 1971 with the Canadiens. He was then sent down to the AHL affiliate for the next season, where he won the Calder Cup in 72. Henri Richard did not like Al MacNeil.
@@david-ow3nv McNeil won the cup in 71, Beliveau's last year, the miracle run. In that spring, after the cup win, Pollock drafted Guy Lafleur and hired Scotty Bowman as coach. McNeil went back to the AHL. He has been called up to coach the Habs mid season I believe when Claude Ruel left the job.
Wow the old Halifax forum. Saw Bobby Orr play there, for the Black Hawks. Everyone said the 72 Vees could have beaten the California Golden Seals. Best Habs player was Peter Sullivan, who went on to the WHA for the Jets.
Win you Baltimore Clippers! Win you Clippers from Baltimore! While this would been a loss from my hometown team, it's great to see them here. Fun fact: 2 teams from Baltimore made their way to the Calder Cup finals. Both lost in the finals to a Montreal Canadiens farm team. (The Baltimore Skipjacks lost to the Sherbrooke Canadiens in 1985).
Al also coached the Montreal Canadians before he went to the other teams you mentioned. He also played defense for the Montreal Canadians as he was drafted by the Habs.
Le grand Larry ! Un de mes héros d'enfance ! Superbe vidéo.

I grew up in Halifax watching these guys play . This is the reason I been a Habs fan for over 50 years . Loved the Vees .
It's a shame that Larry Robinson guy never amounted to anything. So much potential
😂 good one
Larry Robinson was so young his voice hadn’t changed yet
Still hasn't.
Omg, yes ! I wondered for a second if he sounded like big bird from Sesame Street, but after review he didnt
Larry Robinson and Randy Rota, talk about Mutt and Jeff. Wikipedia says Rota was 5'8", he looks smaller.
Robinson went on to become one of the best DMen in NHL history
In the old halifax forum, love that rink. Al MacNeil went on to win the Stanley cup after the Calder with the canadiens. Great coach
Sorry, won the cup a year before the calder
It looked half size

Sam Pollock= the greatest GM ever. We Habs fans were blessed. Plus, Claude Ruel = perhaps the greatest player developer ever. Just ask Ken Dryden.
Thanks for this. I loved that season.
Larry Robinson was not to be pissed off..!!!!!

Thanks for all the names! So cool
There should be a trophy for those sideburns.
Al MacNeil wins the Calder AFTER winning the Stanley Cup.
Are you sure he won the Calder after winning the Stanely Cup?
@@david-ow3nv He won the Stanley Cup in 1971 with the Canadiens. He was then sent down to the AHL affiliate for the next season, where he won the Calder Cup in 72. Henri Richard did not like Al MacNeil.
@@daveywaite25 That's right, Richard called him "un incompétent".

I was there for that game..that win..
3:06 Yvon Lambert takes the first drink out of the Cup.
I wasnt sure it was him. Thanks for confirming.
Never forget his OT winner game 7 in the 79 semi finals against Boston.
The two many men on the ice game.

Family had 2 tickets and took my great grandad instead of me :( Bobby Orr played in the Metro Center in 78', unless he played exhibition as a Bruin.
Sam Pollock was a brilliant man. Does anyone know why he stepped down in 1978-79?
Al McNeil won the Stanley Cup with the habs in 1971.... And was returned to the N.S. Voyageurs.....

Hard to believe Robinson played in the minors. He was really mean to my Bruins.
My friend says Larry Robinson wanted to play for the Leafs.
I’m sure glad he didn’t. 🏆
Love the old buildings. Nowadays every arena is the same and lacking character.
Such bad hockey.

Did they move to Halifax that season or the following season??
@truthhandler6828 The game was played in the Halifax Forum. A few years later, they moved into the new Halifax Metro Center.
