    My uncle had one of those , was dark green originally , he painted it Canary Yellow , he had the louvres on the rear window , and put a built Cleveland in it , with gear driven timing , ( Mexican blower ) it whined , headers , cherry bomb mufflers , rear tires stuck out past the wheel wells , posi traction , 4 inch tires on the front , traction bars , 4 speed , and it would lay down black strips for long way ! Good Times !

    Yup, 1969 model year with the VIN for the win: 9 for 1969 model year, T for Metuchen, NJ assembly, 02 for Ford Mustang hardtop (not 03 as on the HOC website as 03 is for a convertible in 1969), H for 351 CID V8 with two barrel, and the rest is the production sequence. I think this may have had the Windsor engine originally as the "H" often denoted the Windsor 351 V8. An "M" for the 5th digit denotes a 351 with four barrel in 1969. So, I think this may have always been a Windsor equipped vehicle. The Metuchen, NJ plant was also called "Edison Assembly" and closed in 2004. I have passed by it several times.
    Assuming the original color, or targeting it, this would be code "J" Grabber Blue exterior paint.

    H code means 351-2v, and M code would mean 351-4v, referring to ether a 2 barrel or 4 barrel carburetor.
    I think all the 69s were all Windsors and they switched to the Clevelands in 70. I think the Windsor/Cleveland wasn't reflected in the code H/M. They put in a Cleveland for the H (2v) or M(4v) after 70s, or around then.

    Great car and review Steve. Good timing too, as I'm buying my late uncles 1969 Fastback/Sportroof to keep it in the family and of course, go to car shows. It isn't a Mach 1, but it does have the full Mach 1 asthetic with the wing, chin spoiler, hood scoop, interior, door cards, clock etc... At some point in its life, the original 302 came out in favor of the 351 Windsor. No rust or rot and in great running condition. It is finished in a matte black spray, but sometime in the future, I'd like to return it to the Lime Gold paint. But do I add the Mach 1 decals? Would anyone really know without looking at the vin.. 😅

    I'm not trying to break balls, but a Cleveland didn't arrive in the Mustang or Ford line up until 1970. Of course, in Mustang, land debate exists, but in many ways, it has been proven that Cleveland didn't live in 69s.

  • @maxum96
    @maxum96 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +2

    Steve, I really like your videos, but you got some things wrong on this car. H code in 1969 is a 2V 351 Windsor only. The 351 Cleveland did not appear until the 1970 model year. In 1970, the H code could be either the 2V 351 Windsor or 2V 351 Cleveland. The engine in that car appears to be a 289 or a 302 due to it's narrow width and deck height. A 1969 Mach 1 would have had at least a 2V 351 engine. Nothing smaller. So the 289 or 302 it has currently is incorrect. As you pointed out, a Mach 1 should have had the deluxe interior. It's a nice car, but it probably did not start off life as a Mach 1. Nothing wrong with tribute or clone cars ( I have a Boss 302 tribute) as long as they're not held out to be something they're not.

    A 1969 Red Mach1 was my first car, got it from mom. That blue one has the wrong seats, the Mach1 seats had a red stripe front and rear, the back seat also folded down. These cars didn't handle the midwest winters and salt very good, front shock towers always rusted real good. Nice looking car but not much on the performance side with the 351.

    • @westmus
      @westmus 5 หลายเดือนก่อน +1

      Completely different engines. The W was basically an longer stroke 289/302. The C was ment to be the new future "performance" engine and had high flowing heads with huge ports and valves. The W came first, I believe as an "quick fix", because Ford had an increasing need for an larger smallblock. But the 70s energy crises turned to car world upside down, meaning the W ended outliving the C.

    • @mattcornett7180

      Easiest way to tell them apart is at the upper radiator hose. Windsor hose goes into the intake manifold. Cleveland hose doesn’t. It goes down into the block. No coolant ran in the intake which is why they tend to run hot.

      They are completely different designs, which only share the samebore and stroke. Other parts do not interchange the main difference between the Cleveland and Windsor is in the heads which the Cleveland uses larger canted valve heads where the Windsor valves are in line.

    This is very clearly NOT a Mach 1, just a Sportsroof. Interior is not a deluxe with wood grain, wrong dash, clock, door panels, carpet, center console, and the biggest thing, no Sail panel Medallions. All Mach 1s came with medallions on each side of the fastback, which were attached onto studs welded on the panel. Also, H in 69 is a Windsor, it changed to be a Cleveland in 70, and then there after H was always a Cleveland. Although, in 70, H could mean a 351-2V Cleveland OR Windsor depending on some options and choices. M in 1970 was ONLY a Cleveland however.
