After many years, im getting back into DJing, was lucky enough to be gifted Serato DJ Pro, never used it before, always VDJ, just with mouse, keyboard, now acquired a Numark Mixtrack Plat FX Controller, splitting stems is so awesome! can do many mashups! in NZ, we love old school RNB, reggae, and dancing disco tracks, i know there are beasts of controllers out there, but my numark does the job for me, alot of good djs here in NZ, DJ Jordan lee, DJ Manchoo, DJ 09, DJ Sir-vere just to name a few
Another great podcast, really found the advice given for a first gig particularly useful as that will be me next month. Thanks again for these tips Phil!
As always with nice information. I wasn't interested in the main questions mostly, but your explaining is so rich that I can find anything with value for me in your answers all the time. Thanks for sharing!
I think the trouble is, with regards to Pioneers line up of gear, not only are there specific features missing from each unit but also there is a gap in their "mid-range" standalone gear line up. They discontinued the Nexus NXS gear. We have the XDJ 1000mk2 which needs a refresh, with an outdated screen, no hotcues or jogwheel tension and then the super duper CDJ 3000 with everything. DJs like myself would really like to upgrade from using a controller to using stanalone seperate units but theres no inbertween gear... Even the 750mk2 mixer could do with an uplift... no digital inputs or Pro-DJlink.. Should i speend my hard earned cash on some XDJ1000s and a 750mk2 mixer or should i wait? Thousands of us are asking the same question. Good quality "updated" mid-range gear is what the market is lacking... IMO
Yea, I am not sure why they would view it that way with equipment. They are way more options today than any other time in DJ history. I mean look at new innovations like the Prime and Numark products as well.
I have a question I'd like to pose to Phil and any other DJ here who can answer it... I DJ mostly weddings most weekends. About a month ago, I was working a wedding where one of the guests (a younger woman about 25-30 years old), just bothered me the entire night. She'd visit my DJ area and ask me what I'm playing next, or to dance with me, or to ask for my headphones and pretend to mix on my console, or to poke balloons at me. OMG! It was just annoying and threw me off during my mix sets the whole night. My question is, how would you handle something like that? What would you do to stop a guest from this kind of behavior?
@@digitaldjtips Thanks Phil! I should have mentioned that I did tell her that and I was very professional. She still didn't stop. I actually asked her to stop several times, but she didn't. I wish it was as simple as me asking her to stop, and she did. At that point, I really didn't know what else to do (and remain professional).
Since asking them to stop didn't work, flag down a liaison or point of contact such as their wedding planner, the best man, etc. Someone prominent enough to the event so the bride and groom don't have to be bothered if you can help it. If it's tough to flag someone down, you have a mic and can call them to the DJ booth in a lighthearted way. You're not out of place for making announcements.
Question for you, good sir for my home setup, I got a rane 12 gen 1, plx1000, and ns4fx as the "mixer". 4 channel setup. I really like the setup. Last weekend I got a smoking deal on DJM 450 to replace the NS4fx, and although I enjoy the onboard beat fx and color fx which I can use with the plx1000, I feel like the ns4fx is much better fit and I really like the setup. jogwheel screens, pads, better controls, etc....Is it just that newer dj controllers are more capable than the DJMs? I am going to actually ditch both the NS4FX and DJM 450 and get a Rane Four to replace the ns4fx. I think the DJM has a better 64 bit soundcard. Thoughts?
Star Wars analogy is a tricky minefield considering the shite Disney have done to it! Congrats on jazzy Jeff tho, legend. I’m sure the course will be amazing even for established tablists who want to see Jeff do his thing.
Re no new gear, I just think it is not about hardware so much it is software, as Phil said dj's don't want change and to add if you are club etc if you have invested the better part of 8k on a pro pioneer setup the last thing you would want is a new one coming out 2-3 years later, business's maybe less likely to invest in such purchases. Software is the area that is cheaper to develop and there are no real limits as to what can be done with software.
What exactly is everyone clamouring for with DJ gear that isn't available today? I think there needs to be a massive culture change from DJs where they focus less on the gear and start honing their mixing skills, ability to dig out the best music, track selection etc... focus on the art and forget the tech.
Unless you have stems tracks from the producers, then we are using software that is already in the AI phase. Hardware manufacturers should be rushing to put decent GPUs/TPUs/AI chips onto all in one systems.
I think we need to steer clear of A.I. Are you kidding me? (asking the industry not you Phil) A.I. will Kill any human ambitions striving for excellence . It will get to a point, and I promise you DJ's maybe not at first, but I promise eventually will be like, "what's the point trying to stand out when A.I. will do it flawlessly" . Dangerous if you ask me, Not just in the DJ sector, but in all sectors. I just don't get it why some are running towards this silly dystopian future that is empty , hollow and isolated??? Honestly it looks to me if you are into "Zeroing yourself out" and you like making yourself not useable and want to be insignificant, then maybe A.I. might be something that you would look forward to I guess!

Good work! The gear/software are just there to get you doing the DJ thing, as you say no need for more than the basics if yoju don't want.
this guy is awesome. glad he's with me on this DJ journey
Ah, thanks! Happy to help :)

Great to hear, and glad to help
I'm content with the gear we currently have. With that being said, I'm getting a DVS setup soon and would love an updated Numark Scratch battle mixer.
Very informational - good energy and love hearing your advice to similar questions that are in my head also. Very positive
Glad it was helpful!

Couldn't find where the 5 star button is, but I did the thumbs up thingy.
Thanks

It’s a hard one, but basically I’d tell her I’m working and you’re stopping me doing my job, please leave me alone

@@djrecoveryrate8607 Most excellent! Thank you! That's a good solution to a problem like this. I will keep it in mind should it ever happen again.
Can anyone direct me if they've done a video on what features do you get when connecting a DJM-A9 to the ethernet hub that the CDJs are connected to?
BPM sync is the big one

People who come to controllers from traditional DJ gear tend to fall in love with all the extra features, which makes it hard to go back

Stems is ok but it’s got a long way to go

I have more faith in the human spirit
Traktor s4 mk2 is the best. Everything after that is irrelevant. The industry is rendered pointless.
lol
…except the other 99% of DJs not using that tech
