    My friend is a musician and omg you can really tell the difference between the radio pop songs and the more obscure songs or her own original music in terms of how complicated the piano is or how well it shows off her voice. A song with emotion will always feel that emotion, a song for tiktok will never have that feeling

      When McClung '010 shaves, he looks like he would've been only a yearling by the time Episode #1507 of South Park aired. It's the episode where all the kids were into a genre named "tween wave." It was a very simplistic genre, meant as an allegory to all the genres that had either come into existence or rose into prominence since circa '009 (before McClung would look like he was born!), which divided their youth target audiences when previous decades' music had mostly united young people behind them, the most infamous at the time which was dubstep. Given the direction music was going in since the turn of the '010s Decade, I'd say McClung and I were dealt a terrible hand in what music is most popular.

      Call me hypocritical if you have to, but I didn't see what was so special about "Poker Face" any more than McClung '010 did. While not nearly as bad as the Russell Crowe star vehicle of the same name from '022, I had trouble relating to electronic dance pop ever since Lady Gaga set the standard back in '009. I'm still stumped on why popular music went in that direction around that particular time.

    Honestly I really just think the only thing that makes a song inherently good is if it means something for you personally which is a very subjective opinion. While I don’t like pop music I understand that some people connect and relate to it. Pop music still invoked emotion in a lot of people. Everyone has their own genres and artists that they connect to, and while yes it is a problem that some music only gets popular because it has a big name behind it, some people still connect to that music. Even Ed Sheeran… I’ve seen people sob while listening to Ed Sheeran because of their emotional attachment to it. Overall I think it’s just a little irresponsible to say that X music is better than Y because that’s purely opinion. Just because you personally connect with it more doesn’t mean that it’s inherently better than a more popular artist.

  • @ickyflix3

    I agree but only partially. Sometimes even radio music can be interesting, maybe the artist themselves are not the brightest producers ever but there are many talented people working behind the scenes, like Sophie (may she rest in peace) working on "bitch I'm Madonna", other times songs are not meant to be enjoyed on the radio but they're really fun to dance to. This doesn't apply to Lady Gaga I love her and most of her music is great, and I say this as someone with a 9h long the Residents playlist and a love for experimental, weird and unsettling music in general (you should check out the residents btw!!! They're so great). I also rarely listen to the radio and most songs I hear there when I do are in italian because of where I live so maybe if I listened to the radio more I would be more of a hater (it's easy to defend popular music when I can just listen to my silly little harsh noise playlists instead of Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift)

    If you want to hear a really crazy and weird song, then the Mind Electric is a good choice. If you *really* listen to the lyrics, then you can tell it’s telling a story. You can google the meaning (it’s weird) and then kind of get how the lyrics were telling that.

    I think it's ironic that genres which defined music prior to the New Millennium, such as classical, orchestral, jazz, and rock, have been pushed away from the recording industry yet are still prominent in every entertainment medium *except* music. Video game soundtracks, film scores, and TV shows still use those older, more instrument-driven genres, but the music people are *forced* to hear in public, particularly in retail and restaurants, hasn't in a decade.

      @user-uf5zk1kw8x 9 หลายเดือนก่อน +3

      I get that completely! I do feel her latest albums have so much less break up songs! Albums like Red have lots of break up songs because that’s what she was going through. I think that’s one of the reasons we love her so much, she writes what’s going on in her life at the moment and in a way people can insert themselves into. What you said about radio songs really stood out to me. I think Taylor Swift has some of the most radio friendly songs out there and those become the songs we classify with her albums. Songs like Anti-Hero are what we associate Midnights as, but I don’t think that’s the best song. She has a habit of writing one major pop song for that radio that gets famous and leaving the best (in my opinion) songs in the dust! Sorry for the paragraph💀
