When McClung '010 shaves, he looks like he would've been only a yearling by the time Episode #1507 of South Park aired. It's the episode where all the kids were into a genre named "tween wave." It was a very simplistic genre, meant as an allegory to all the genres that had either come into existence or rose into prominence since circa '009 (before McClung would look like he was born!), which divided their youth target audiences when previous decades' music had mostly united young people behind them, the most infamous at the time which was dubstep. Given the direction music was going in since the turn of the '010s Decade, I'd say McClung and I were dealt a terrible hand in what music is most popular.

Honestly I really just think the only thing that makes a song inherently good is if it means something for you personally which is a very subjective opinion. While I don’t like pop music I understand that some people connect and relate to it. Pop music still invoked emotion in a lot of people. Everyone has their own genres and artists that they connect to, and while yes it is a problem that some music only gets popular because it has a big name behind it, some people still connect to that music. Even Ed Sheeran… I’ve seen people sob while listening to Ed Sheeran because of their emotional attachment to it. Overall I think it’s just a little irresponsible to say that X music is better than Y because that’s purely opinion. Just because you personally connect with it more doesn’t mean that it’s inherently better than a more popular artist.
I agree but only partially. Sometimes even radio music can be interesting, maybe the artist themselves are not the brightest producers ever but there are many talented people working behind the scenes, like Sophie (may she rest in peace) working on "bitch I'm Madonna", other times songs are not meant to be enjoyed on the radio but they're really fun to dance to. This doesn't apply to Lady Gaga I love her and most of her music is great, and I say this as someone with a 9h long the Residents playlist and a love for experimental, weird and unsettling music in general (you should check out the residents btw!!! They're so great). I also rarely listen to the radio and most songs I hear there when I do are in italian because of where I live so maybe if I listened to the radio more I would be more of a hater (it's easy to defend popular music when I can just listen to my silly little harsh noise playlists instead of Ed Sheeran or Taylor Swift)
Man, I can tell you, when I listened to "The great gig in the sky" I felt my soul leaving my body. It doesn't even have lyrics I could understand (English is not my first language) but it was a life changing experience

I get that completely! I do feel her latest albums have so much less break up songs! Albums like Red have lots of break up songs because that’s what she was going through.
