When they call Night Train Lane a "walk-on" for the Rams, it's not an exaggeration. Lane was working in an aircraft factory and didn't like it. On the way to work, he passed by Rams HQ on the bus. So one day, he got off the bus and went into the office and asked for a try-out. He got one and told the team he was a wideout. The coach said he looked like a DB and moved him to defense. Thus is history made.

Nightrain literally is the reason why the Clothesline and Facemask penalties are ILLEGAL in the NFL. He loved to give what he called the Nightrain necktie also known as a clothesline tackle. Then the NFL put facemasks on the helmets and he realized that he could grab those and pull his victims down even easier.

@@johnfinch7281 That's not what Wikipedia says:
Lane acquired the nickname "Night Train" during his first training camp with the Rams. Teammate Tom Fears had a record player in his room and frequently played the record, "Night Train", by Jimmy Forrest. The record was released in March 1952 and was the #1 R&B hit for seven weeks.[15][14] According to an account published by the Los Angeles Times in August 1952, "Whenever Fears plays it Lane can be found in the hall outside Tom's room dancing to the music."[15] Lane was initially uncomfortable with the racial implication of the nickname, which had been bestowed on him by his white teammates, but he embraced it after a newspaper reported on his performance against Washington Redskins star Choo Choo Justice with the headline, "Night Train Derails Choo Choo".[4]

I'm going to Montclair State University in September. So excited to be going to a place where Sam Mills played his college ball. The school pride kicks in there. When you go to a school that doesn't have too many NFL players, you appreciate the ones that made it so much more. Never saw him play but I know he was a special player. Part of the Dome Patrol defense in New Orleans and then helped Carolina to the NFC title game quickly. I'm majoring in sports Communication. Hopefully I can have a successful career and be a known alumist like Mills.

I think the next player who was an undrafted free agent who's gonna enter the NFL hall of fame. Is James Harrison. He's a 5 time consecutive pro bowler 2x All pro linebacker the 2008 defense a player of the year. He also became the first undrafted free agent in NFL history to win this award. He had a part in the steelers going to 3 super bowls. And of course the icing on the cake that makes his a NFL Future hall of famer He has one of the longest and biggest plays made in Super Bowl history. I'm Super Bowl 43 he intercepted the football in the end zone and ran it back for a 100 yd touchdown which to help the steelers to win the Super Bowl. In considering in the early parts of his career he was a player that no one considered good enough to be on any team and was cut multiple times. Even by the steelers he was cut but then brought back in and got a chance to really shine. And we don't need to make any reason for him to wait 10 or 20 years after he's eligible for the Hall of Fame.

When teams hang onto a #1 pick out of pride it's really bad business. It doesn't matter where a player is drafted. But rather what they do when they play.

Shell seemed to suffer from the same sentiment that plagued Jerry Kramer. It's like over time the voters felt hesitant about voting so many players from those great teams

Why you say "just" 22 players? That accounts for 6% of all HoF players! That is amazing, given the fact that there were 12 rounds in the older drafts, and rookie free agents are and were used as camp bodies only, facing almost impossible odds to make the final cuts, leave alone end up a regular and finally a HoFer... (and it just shows how often scouts miss talent)

I don't understand why the St. Louis Rams would win the Super Bowl and then change the uniforms the very next season. That has to be the dumbest decision. Of course they didn't win another Super Bowl until after they switched back to those uniforms.

I think Kurt Warner was a good QB, belongs in the Hall but got extremely lucky. He played on a squad in St Louis. Had great recievers in Arizona. When he wasn't surrounded by great players he was an average QB at best. I'm not hating on him that's just how i see it. I think there's hundreds of QBs that could've done something similar given that opportunity. Better to be lucky then good I suppose

    • @FoxxyBrown1111
      @FoxxyBrown1111 2 ปีที่แล้ว

      50/50 agree/not agreeing
Warner was a great QB AND had great talent around him in SL. So in a way he was "lucky". He was lucky the NFL Europe still existed, otherwise no NFL career... But what made him a true HoFer actually were the Arizona years. I guess if a high drafted QB like team-mate Matt Leinhardt said Warner carried the whole team, not Whisenhunt nor somebody else, says it all. Fitz alone could not do anything with the crap the had at QB before and after Warner (outside of the two good years Palmer squeezed out of his battered body)...
Now to the real lucky QBs, the lottery winners:
The one that sticks out above everybody is Int king Eli Manning. This arrogant prick, noodle arm, roid neck, only made it as a first rounder cos of his surname. He was so bad that he actually had below average efficiency numbers for long term NFL starters (which is a form of luck too, staying un-injured, and not getting benched after dozens of horrible performances).
Then came those impossible playoff luck streaks in 2007 (juuust making the playoffs, and there barely winning each game somehow), and 2011 (where the NYG actually got outscored during the reg. season) where Manning got his fame from. Now some people even consider him HoF. Ouch!
Manning was pampered so much, that even after the crazy benching of Warner (in a league with the infamous Flutie benching in BUF), his terrible performances were ignored. Warner outplayed Manning in NY unseen since McMahon outplayed Rusty Lisch or Brad Goebel. Yes that bad was Eli.
      2) Flacco. The luck streak of 2012 "earned" him über millions, yet he was just an average NFL long term starter over his career.
Warner got "lucky", yes. Every undrafted bench warmer or camp arm needs luck to get his chance, but the real lucky ones are the pampered first rounders getting tousands of chances cos of sold Made-in-China shirts, endorsments, and cap killing contracts.
