The writers strike got resolved but the actors strike is still going on
Heya, I watched the movie only once and I think I like it, the songs were good, not great but good. Also my opinion on this reboot is that it's not bad, I still have an appreciation for the og but this reboot deserves a chance too. Thank you for reading keep being you.

I loved the two live action movies because that is what the world is now to bring in teenagers and adults but to be fair I was never a fan of the cartoon version so Negativelegend if you are comparing the cartoon version to the live action movies than stop and record a video talking about good things that you enjoyed if you don’t than do not make a review for monster high if you are going to be that disappointed

Honestly the only reason Gen 3 sucks for me is because these are completely new-ish and different characters borrowing the names of the originals, and instead of seeing them as their own characters, I'm forced into this exquisitely uncomfortable and deeply unwanted dissonance where I literally have no other choice but to compare them despite knowing that they're not the same characters at all.

MH fans on Twitter from what I've heard are absolutely wild and I have no idea why. Sorry to hear your experience with them has been absolutely abysmal but I'm glad to hear it didn't deter you from watching the sequel... even if you feel it sucked. :/
Torelai was a good addition but I still prefer the original series. I think it’s cool that Frankie is they/them-it makes sense for their backstory-but other than that I don’t like the new movies
yea, frankie was the only one pulling in views for them, their character was nicely portrayed and felt like writers were actually paying attention to who they are,
every other character just sucked, especially poor ghoulia, oml I can't get over what they did to her ;-;
The animated series for G3 is much better.

I still cannot get over the fact that *THAT* is supposed to be Clawdeen. They did my girl so dirty. Not even gonna get started on Lagoona. The only good thing about the reboot is Frankie tbh.
I don’t hate everything about G3. I just hate that they took all the original characters and changed who they were so much that they could have just made new characters while having the original characters be cameos and Easter eggs. I especially hate what they did to Cleo. I just get a headache whenever I hear her speak.

Cleo is hands down the least changed character, she was always ditzy and dramatic, she just isn't mean which even in G1 ends up going away as the series progresses, imo she is the funniest character of G3, she is hysterical with her one-liners.
That’s what reboots are tho. It’s not a comeback or revival. Have we not learned what reboots are from My Little Pony?
Though tbh mlp is not the best example cus every generation is extremely different with new a completely new cast of characters..
She-ra princess of power would be a better example. It made the characters more diverse with different ethnicity’s, skin tones, body types, lgbtq representation, etc.. which back then everyone in she-ra was white with the same body type, and straight.
Monster high g3 did the exact same thing.
You just gotta appreciate g3 for what it is as if g1 never existed. It’s a really cute show. I know it hurts to think about never seeing the g1 characters again and what it could have been, but you gotta enjoy what you have.
I was most upset by the changes to ghoulia and draculaura, ghoulia isn't even recognizable anymore, she's just gone

my biggest issue with g3 is that they aren't really exploring the characters enough. In g1 we get to know characters backstories and inner turmoil (especially the ones who have literally lived the longest) but it feels like w g3, they just introduce personal problems w/o giving ideas on how they deal with them. Clawdeen's half human half wolf, okay so? Draculaura does witchcraft, okay but why though? A lot of it seems more tell than show
But they do, in the cartoon show
For Clawdeen, her half human heritage is constant identity crisis, and about where she belongs and who she should be. Also, subplots regarding racism.
As for Draculaura, she is essentially the alt-girl of this genre. She is trying to get out of her family's shadow and become her own monster and she found creative outlet through witchcraft
All of this was worth it if we get a story focused on Frankie.

I hope you bring up how the climatic scene in the movie was ruined only cause Frankie was standing there in that moment and made the climatic moment fell so over the top and uncalled for just cause when you kind of think about that moment it made what clawdeen did very unnecessary and way to over the top when frankie was right there and only a few seocnds ago demonstrated that all they need to do is what they did a few seconds ago and just dethatch there hand again to save the day without the overdramatic clawdeen moment
Or Clawdeen could… y’know… stick her arm through the bars instead of trying to pry them apart.

i watched this with my mom since we have a tradition of watching cringy movies, and we were both screaming at clawdeen to throw her glasses or something at draculaura since one touch can break the spell

I honestly cant bring myself to watch the new monster high movies. I absolutely loved Draculauras design as well as her accent and never understood why people didnt like it like it isnt that bad, lagoona blue no longer being blue and Australia and Cleo not being the same and not being with Deuce anymore, Deuce and Cleo not being together anymore hurt me deep inside my soul.
Cleo is actually very similar to OG self.
Eastern European accent was considered offensive for Draculaura.
And Lagoona was changed based on input of kids that Mattel is cattering to, with G3
Something that annoys me in general when it comes to people co-opting pre-existing ideas like Monsters is that a lot of the time they only go surface level when incorporating them into the world. I want more series and movies that include Vampires’ weakness to being unable to cross running water or being unable to leave a coffin if a specific flower is placed upon it, or even referring to male witches as “warlocks”.
The only series I know does this thing well is Netflix’s Castlevania series, which I highly recommend. They made Dracula into a proper DILF.
Castlevania does some fantastic things with vampire lore. You can tell that they visited source material, even when they include movie-constructed ideas like vampires burning in the sun or new things like the predator vision.
The only media I recall putting care into calling male wtiches 'warlocks' was The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, which was solid up until the holiday special, and then became whatever these G3 live actions are. I think writers' lack of enthusiasm for it is less due to poor writing and more that the word 'warlock' is not very traditional. Witch seems to have been a mostly neuter term.

i grew up on gen1/gen2 monster high. i then saw these movies came out and i felt so old 😭
I will say the Frankie and Heath lines and how they acted were so good! We joke that every time Frankie is in a scene it is 100% better
Here´s an opinion of an actual witch (I´m a Wiccan): I really liked that DracuLaura is now a vampire witch, I though they were going to make witchcraft be something that somehow connected humans and monsters, like maybe DracuLaura´s interest in witchcraft would lead her to befriend human witches, but if they wanted to represent witchcraft in this reboot they did it horribly because they basically said "witches are evil but DracuLaura is the exception because she is also a monster and so is Ellis for loving her", that they keep saying Toralei´s prejudice against witches is wrong but by making the witches the villains of this movie they are validating her prejudice against them, I really wanted Ellis´ mother to be the wise good witch she was pretending to be instead of a cheap twist villain and the worst part for me is in that scene when Frankie tells Deuce and Heath about the history of the Salem Witch Trials from 1692 and Heath says "So humans treat witches as bad as they treat monsters?" and I thought "good, they acknowledged the pain and prejudice witches went through" but they ruined it when Deuce replied "yeah, and witches treat monsters worse" I found that line so offensive because it´s underminding a real life event when many people were tortured and killed and by saying witches do worse than those who tortured them they are basically saying they deserved that

I think my biggest issue with the new monster high (as an og fan of the original) is that the vibes are off. Changing up the characters shouldn’t have that stark of an effect when the essence of the series is still there, it feels like Nickelodeon is trying to do descendants with some cheap monster high branding slapped on top.
It doesn’t help the Characters roles are all over the place, Cleo is very poorly executed, and Draculaura is the same. I see what they’re going with for her softcore reboot, but they really should’ve kept some of her bubbly personality because now she just feels really rude to everyone including her friends, she’s supposed to be struggling with her family and the persecution of witchcraft but outside of that we don’t get much else from her nature, so she’s just aggro or bitter all the time? It would be different if other characters were able to fill the role but it just isn’t well done.
Clawdeen has gone from the put together but still struggles without her friends to help her out, big sister type to the y/n main Character with no flare. Draculaura has gone from the upbeat earnest girl who’s always there for her friends to a rude bitter character who at most only seems to tolerate her friends, we’re TOLD the main three are friends but with Draculaura we don’t actually see any of that friendship. Frankie pretty much remains unchanged other than being a now more watered down version of their character, instead of being actually ingenuitive kinda just has smart things come to them because they have the brain of geniuses (a bit I feel is overdone for joke attempts and only serves to invalidate Frankie’s achievements and character).
The actual show seems to be better? These are more movie related issues hence my descendants comparison. Except unlike descendants there little to no budget or creativity thrown at these movies and all the songs are boring, un memorable, and don’t serve the plot/ characters whatsoever.
THAT AVATAR IS EVERYTHING 🤩.
I wish I didnt understand English so I could enjoy the soundtrack without the basic and repetitive lyrics.
Also in my opinion Frankie was just LOST In this movie. So, just like in the final scene where we have clawdeen pulling the cage and trying so hard to get her bestie free, FRANKIE IS JUST STANDING THERE. I really feel like that could’ve been a huge moment for her to be in the lime light. A huge missed opportunity for this character who just got lost in this movie man.
Frankie seems like the better character to take center stage as an MC. Being quite literally a "new" kid. I miss proper Jackson/Holt :/ aside from Twyla, he was one of my favs... Didn't appreciate what happened with his character, honestly. I barely recognized Lagoona Fuschia in this movie, and I'm not surprised by my annoyance towards Toralie's character. That hasn't changed, at least, lmao.
I actually plan to write a timeline that respects the changes in the new one (the ones that actually provide interest and flavor to characters) but also respects the original characters. Given that, if I am correct, the original creator isn't on the brand anymore which makes these new revamps "technically" fan-made and not actually "official", however -given the complications of companies and copyright- they also "technically" aren't because they're allowed to post it as official because they own it and can put anyone they want in charge, essentially. That being said, I just want to make a version that respects the characters how they were originally served to us, but also keeps things like Frankie being non-binary, Twyla autistic and the inclusiveness of sexuality and all those good things we actually wish the OG was like. It was so close, but still played things too safe for the straight crowd.
I'm not trying to hate on the *new* new version by saying this. I just disagree with directions they decided to lead some of the characters in. They at least brought back Headmistress Bloodgood instead of keeping Dracula as the Headmaster.
okay but can we talk about the eyebrow-raising tender handhold/palm caress toralei executed on clawdeen in the last scene. "we share the moon" WHO wrote this
I definitely agree on the part where we came for the fantasy the series used to offer and instead got fed the real world, but damn am I glad they chose Seattle. Like yeah it's pretty smoggy here, but it always feels nice seeing the north west more often in fiction. grew up there, and it's really nice if you're looking in the right places!
I’m personally not a fan of the live action movies, no hate towards it, just not my cup of tea! But they’ve recently come out with Monster Ball episodes and ive been enjoying those!
To be honest, I like the second movie a little more then the first, it’s also my favourite interpretation of Toralei, it seems more realistic to me. I like the fact that she wasn’t a villain or even an antagonist, she was a rival, at least that’s how I saw it.
Toraleis tail, hers and clawdeens ears, and every character that didnt have human skintone bothered me so much it was actually annoying. I get it love budget but Heaths face didnt even match his neck and hands. I dont remember these things bothering me that much in the previous movie but maybe i just forgot.
I read the graphic on the thumbnail as “Monster 2 High” and giggled 🤭
The fight between draculaura wasn't just about clawdeen's campaign, but about the fact that draculaura's actions will get her expelled and potentially ruin her life if they fall through

If I had a nickel for everytime a teen drama based on spooky halloween monsters/ pop culture islands with a half-latina as a main character made a reference to an lgbtq issue in the weirdest and least helpful way possible I’d have 2 nickels which isn’t a lot but it’s weird that it happened twice
I really enjoy seeing the Monster High characters reimagined as live-action, even if there is some cognitive dissonance between who they used to be and who they are now. There's something so fun about fantasy style placed in the real world, it reminds me of Descendants that way.

With the broom closet comment, i more agree with Drac there. Lot's of people i know irl have been like "Oh I support you but don't go around telling people it could be dangerous to you" when I'm already out. Being quiet about it is not going to make me not a target anymore, everyone knows.
And with Drac it's very widely known and she'd be safer with clawdeen and her followers standing behind her, not with them conceding this point to Toralie so others think attacking Drac is okay.
Honestly I think what irks me the most is the live action thing. Why is animation out? The costumes look just cheap.

Oh my ghoul THANK YOU!! I was wondering how Clawdeen die in the sequel 'cause the movie summary on the wiki was incomplete, only mentioning the reaper looking for Frankie in the major events section. Also (sorry you had to deal with haters on Twitter..) I was at a bit put off by the G3 designs when they were first unveiled but just like with Rise of the TMNT I grew to love the newer redesigns and the direction they're going for.(Thank God G3 Monster High wasn't ruined by modern pandering...) Plus the new designs for the characters (Frankie, Draculaura, and Lagoona in particular) are freakin' adorable!❤🤩
I enjoyed it for what it was. I'll have to watch it a few more times to really evaluate, but I will agree that the songs didn't feel as catchy or earwormy as last time. I haven't listened to the full soundtrack yet, and I need to (some of my favorites on the first movie's soundtrack are only in the movie as background songs and snippets). I like that the story picked up pretty much where it left off, it did what I expected it to do, and it was fun overall. My wife and I did make a lot of references to Descendants 2 while watching. Draculaura was doing double-duty as Ben and either Mal or Evie, being kidnapped and having her "Space Between" song with Clawdeen and then Frankie. I loved Frankie's part, but they came in unexpectedly and were almost third-wheeling, and I think the actors all kind of played with that idea. Again, one of the best things is the stage business all the backgrounders do. Toralei's song was interesting, but Clawdeen's part felt half-done - she wasn't explaining herself well enough (and I know, that was probably the point, but it felt like it made the song incomplete) - and it's weird that Bloodgood was just standing there in the doorway the whole time? Like, you're all in her office.
I LOVED Cleo in this movie. Campaign manager was a good part for her, and her acting has gotten better (it was already good in the first movie). Frankie brightens up every scene they're in, and just makes me happy by their very presence. I liked the spy movie aspect, because we got more of the best dad, Apollo! More Apollo is always good. Heath felt more like a character here and less like a caricature. I wanted more for Lagoona, Ghoulia, and Abbey - though seeing Lagoona help with the ceremony was nice. The half-ghost girl was adorable. I loved all the characters, really. Though I would have preferred the witch boy to either have been a full-on vampire, or half human, half monster so the school would have taken him back. He could have been a cool new addition, rather than being a one-off character.
I can't wait to see how the third movie unfolds. Frankie vs. the Grim Reaper?! Yes, please! They've got to be the focus of the third movie, since each film is focusing its A-plot on one of the trio - first Clawdeen and then Draculaura. Frankie's turn!
Also, never gonna happen, but an MH polycule would solve so many relationship drama problems.

As an OG Monster High fan I feel like it is a step in a right direction. They have everything right when it comes to wardrobes. The fashion got better since the first movie. The story can be worked with.all in all its not awful I know this is a huge stretch But Because every plat form of mh is Different I would love to see older fans of mh to take over live action Media And have the animated web Series dedicated to younger new audience So we can all win. but a fan can only dream.

Tbh I never managed to get into monster high, even the og one. MH is sort of like miraculous LB for me, I don't particularly care for the show, but I will watch a negative legend review of it just to keep up with the plot. I know many monster high fans are really passionate but.. guess it's not my cup of tea😅

Actually "broom closet" is widely used term in modern witchcraft, of course it relates to comming out of the closet, but the movie did not invented it, and given that witchcraft od draculaura is somewhat accurate translation in to fantastical movie, i believe they are refrencing witchcraft culture, rather than gay culture with this one

The climax was dead on that scene from graviry Falls in The stop motion segement where The claymation monster is fighting off screen & soos says how glad he is he can see it from where he is standing after they mention how EPIC & expensive stop motion animation is 🤷♂️🦇
