    I am delighted to find your superb channel, and I subscribed. I made this, and it was delicious. My version had some triumphs (half mayo, half yogurt) and failures, soggy crust inside though I had drained and dried the tomatoes. Good flavors. I went through and saved many of your recipes. I cannot wait to try more. I like your natural ease, friendliness and relaxed elegance. Great channel! Greetings from California.

    Going back through your old videos. So glad I found this one. Growing up we ate tomato and mayonnaise sandwiches all summer…now I can have in a pie…can’t wait to try it.

    Hi Kevin…Your YUMMY recipe was an inspiration for my own take. I blind baked a pie shell (your food processor recipe) and I used Ricotta vs. mayo. I added onion, fresh garlic, oregano and sliced black olives to the sliced tomatoes. Thank you for AlWAYS bringing out the best of us in our kitchens! ❤ 😊

    Funny story, I learned to make this last year and was so excited, I invited my friend for lunch and we had the pie, next day her husband came over I offered him some leftovers he said that’s odd …she hates tomato’s. Oops she never said a word !!! She’s such a dear friend I had no idea. I won’t be offering that for lunch again when she comes over. Love the biscuit crust idea, I’ll try that next time I make it.

    Crescent rolls flattened out and pressed out in a pie plate also makes a fine crust.

    I use kitchen shears to chiffonade my basil, very quick and easy and for me, much safer! I also put cooked bacon crumbles on top before baking...a fairly generous amount, very delicious. Although I have made this for a few years, I appreciated the tips, particularly regarding the "crust"

    I have always wanted to try tomato pie and also tomato tartlets…tomatoes are good any way they are prepared!!! I love stewed tomatoes with okra served over rice-this is especially good with pork roast or roasted chicken.

    i added crumbled meatloaf, the kids called it cheeseburger pie. i did add a bit of sour cream to the mayo, well, 50-50..it worked out well. it is a very good recipe for many variations!!! i had no rosemary but i did have spinach..if i told the kids they ate spinach i would be on the naughty list.

    Looks really good. I don't like mayo, I was thinking light sour cream, however I will try the yogurt first. My garden isn't producing well this year, the heat has had a major impact.

      @@kevinleejacobs1364 I have a similar recipe using puff pastry. I usually brush the tomatoes with some Dijon mustard and a bit of garlic. It's really great for cocktails or first course. I will try your recipe with yogurt. Thanks

  • @MaterialWhirl
    @MaterialWhirl 3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

    Yum! Easy and looks so good. I'm curious if you could substitute the mayo with ricotta cheese? I'd make the pie as-is but just thought of that. I've been following your blog since 2011ish. Always a joy to see updates.

    • @kevinleejacobs1364
      @kevinleejacobs1364  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for following me all these years! A friend of mine used yogurt instead mayo, and said the pie turned out brilliantly. So maybe ricotta will work as well!

      When I made this pie with homemade biscuit dough, the crust turned out way too bready. Canned biscuits -- if you can find them -- are the way to go!

    I'm slowly loosing all of my Asian persimmons this year. I started out with about 50 fruit on my small tree and I'm down to about 7. I managed to find one on the ground that was more green than orange and it was good, but it's difficult to find them before the pests get them once they've fallen. 😭😭😭😭

      There are different regional variations of this word--so I was told in Sociolinguistics class. There was an old song, maybe Cole Porter, "You say to-may-to, I say to-MAH-to: let's call the whole thing off!"
