    No offence but it seems like the younger sister and brother are only 'caring' now because they can't eat like what they use to. She used to buy them food and treat them. They are not really 'worried' for her. The family made fun of her, didn't protect her when she was fat. Pick a lane.

      Being fat is bad for health. She needed to lose weight but that's not the way she should go about it. And you can't tell them to mind their own business. You are strangers. If she faces health issues you will move on with your life. It's her and the family that will suffer. Do not show kindness if you can't be responsible.

    I think both sides are the problem. The sister mindset with weight is unhealthy and she should learn how to lose weight healthily. The family also is the problem because they would call her names and laugh at her when she was bigger which you could tell affected her self esteem.

    • @christiekang4878
      @christiekang4878 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

      It’s not the sister’s fault the way Korean society teaches people about diet. Unlike American or Mediterranean diets, Koreans don’t learn how to diet sustainably and are less informed about how extreme dieting can take a toll on your health. She should see a nutritionist or do research outside of Korea’s way of dieting to lose weight in a healthy manner.

    Please don’t starve yourself it will only brings some major problems
    - vitamin deficiencies
    - insomnia
    - low self esteem
    - hair loss
    - no more period

      Yes! I think some people don't know that there are huge health issues that may be with you forever when having an eating disorder. For example it can completely mess up your metabolism and digestive system and may take a lot of time to have it back to normal. Also its awesome that you are recovered, it takes a loooot of energy, time and determination Good job

    • @jessica.cash36
      @jessica.cash36 6 ปีที่แล้ว +12

      me too, I developed ulcers and your body stays in this constant state of confusion over whether it should conserve energy (calories) or burn them. It sounds weird to someone who hasn't experienced this restrictive eating but when I was in the middle of it, I craved the headaches or lethargic feeling from being hungry because I knew I was doing it "right". I was hyper emotional and had crazy mood swings and couldn't watch my family eat. Even now, several years later, I still have digestive issues and gastric reflux, and I hate to feel "full" but that's why there is therapy :) I hope she can see she is healthy and beautiful despite what a number says or society may dictate

      I think i have eating disorder, because now i rarely sleep, i may sleep 8 hours in a week, i don't like to eat, i always think my body is the same size as the elephant, if i saw a thin girl, i most likely to cry, i don't know why. I walk so slow, it's hurt to move my body. I'm 16 now, 5 feet tall and 88 lbs weigh. If i wear a t-shirt with a cardigan or a jacket and you poke my back you will feel my backbone and my ribs showing off. I only eat veggies but if it's to much seasoning i don't want to eat it, i love cucumber and tomatoes. If i saw some meat or other foods beside veggies i feel i want to puke so much. I don't take any diet pills or anything. I just the genes from my mother family. Almost all of'em are like me

    • @jessica.cash36
      @jessica.cash36 6 ปีที่แล้ว +4

      Agnes Maria i completely understand and that’s why I’ll be honest-eating disorders can also be learned behavior, for example people in obese families share bad eating habits, same for those who restrict. If you weren’t speaking of food and yourself negatively, I would ask to have your thyroid levels check (hyperthyroidism can cause fast metabolism and thinness) but that doesn’t seem to be what’s going on. The relationship you have with food so closely reminds me of myself, and I don’t wish that on anyone. An example of how deeply embedded it can become is my major in college and minor (exercise physiology and nutrition/psychology) were subconsciously chosen to find the optimal way to continue destroying myself (a therapist later shared this lovey insight). By no means am I a “normal” eater but I refuse to look at numbers anymore, I’m even weighed backwards. If there is anything I can do to help you please don’t hesitate to ask I’m proud of you for choosing to share your struggle

They are so formal and polite in many ways yet so lacking in promoting a healthy mindset. When the man said that his wife should be the one losing weight I got really angry. The ability to NOT listen to what society or anyone says about you is really important in life. Words can break you but it is left for you to listen or not listen. Her family isn't supportive at all. Her family never liked the way she looked BEFORE and NOW that she has lost all the weight, so how do you expect her to be happy? If she's not happy now that she has lost a few pounds, I don't think she will be happy when she reaches her goal. To be happy means you have done something you always wanted to do but she was forced to be skinny because of the people around her. To be skinny doesn't mean you are healthy. The family needs to focus less on the dishes they can't eat anymore and more on building up her confidence. Don't be selfish while your at it. Try and be confident and meet new people as well. Staying at home is good but don't over do it because time ain't waiting for no one. P.S you can still date. Dating doesn't mean you eat all the delicious food. Date a professional trainer if you can find one or someone who likes to count their calories and you'll be fine. I remember when I was little and my maternal grandmother told me how she doesn't accept fat people in her family because I was on the big side. I didn't listen to her neither did I let her words affect me. I ate all the delicious food and still ate them until I decided to loose some weight on my own. People say mean things just to see how you'll react. Don't let them win with their hurtful words.

    recently, i discovered that when i worry less about all of that, it actually helps me with my weight better. to be honest, i’m still not happy with my weight right now and i’m still sensitive about food most of the time but i’m trying my best to focus on eating healthy. it’s hard but i’m trying to accept my body and love myself and i think that’s the most important

Now that we are older she lost so much weight and she's obsessed with her body. Whenever we drink she's always ''Am I fat? Am I pretty? Do I need to lose more weight? I'm fat. I need to weight more. Today I drank green tea, 3l of water, I ate mushrooms, etc. Tomorrow I'll eat that, and then I'll work out. Do you want to come by mom made a cake and I have chips. (But when she comes to my house) I''ll have just a glass of water.'' And she goes like that ALL EFFIN TIME. Like great for you, we always supported you whatever you do. But don't make us, your best friends eat non-stop. I can't keep telling you you're beautiful and skinny. She's basically bones and skin. She's ugly skinny.

    I'm quite upset how the hosts fail to recognise this disorder and provide better suggestions to her. Instead of focusing on appearance (saying she's prettier now), they should question her whether is this something she wants to do for the rest of her life. Have u actually heard of anyone who lived till 80 by having cucumbers only? Although she also workout (which is good) but the body needs energy for u to exercise girl. Slimming down is a super long term project that never ends. Even if u achieved it, u will still have to find ways to maintain it. It's more of understanding ur body what it needs to function well for you to be happy and do well in ur daily life. Ask her put her focus elsewhere than being obsessed with cucumbers. Develop hobbies that's useful and help with her situation. How about begin with cooking healthy meals? Look up at all sorts of diets that is proven to be healthy and achievable. And sure there must be many examples of people who succeeded in being healthy and happy after change of their lifestyle and eating habits which u can consider to follow. Don't just take cucumbers becos it helps to lose weight fast. What's fast doesn't last. Girl, be more aware of nutrition and the deficiency u are getting before u just dive straight into that diet. 😒

    losing weight that way is truly the worst. i've been there and hell.. you don't even understand how badly it affected my daily life. i couldn't get anything right and i was so weak. all i cared about was losing weight, although i always gained the weight back very fast. it took me time to recover but now i am much healthier and i promise you that doing it all in a healthy way will boost up your mood and ur weight will actually stay the way it is unlike when i starved myself and then ate normally for a day and gained it all right away. don't do it to yourself, my mental and physical state was so low at that time.

    Being healthy is important. Its good she lost weight, but she needs to be satisfied with her hardwork and results. Everything in life needs balance, including your diet. Its OK to indulge in unhealthy or fattening food sometimes. She just has to have discipline. This is also why I always aim to stay in the weight range for my bmi. Being too overweight or too underweight can be dangerous.

    I was on a harsh diet for the past 2.5 weeks and I just started eating a bit of usual food. And tbh harsh diets rlly make you wanna binge and i had similar diet as her and work out 1 hr cardio daily. Yes u lose weight faster but i started hving difficulty falling aslp, i was constantly tired even tho i still cld do 1 hr cardio. I once did 1.5hr cardio n i felt like my soul left my body. Now i'm focusing on healthier lifestyle and body while trying to lose weight by reducing carbs and calories as well as moderate workouts. Not pushing myself beyond the limit

No exercise. It's considered intermittent fasting but I didn't know it was a legit thing back then. You could do it if u want to but I suggest having a variety of food each meal. Cuz i only ate ban mian. Or aglio olio. I switched between the two for 6 months. There's not enuf nutrients

    I agree with what every commenter. It’s all about losing weight the healthy way, finding a balance. It’s all about the Balance. Most importantly never lose weight to look skinny or thinking that if you get skinner you’ll be beautiful. That’s not true. I wish some people in Korea would understand this. Skinny doesn’t equal beauty. We have to love our bodies and take care of our bodies the right way.

    i get her point tho because i'm also on a diet for 6 weeks(from that point i'm still dieting) my diet began a week before the summer break and my weight was before losing weight 87 kg and a few weeks ago (after 4 weeks of dieting) my weight was 81 kg and i was pretty happy with it that it worked but i think i'm also hurting my family, they ask me every time to eat but i always said yes but now it's no so they were not used to it. everything that girl is saying is a thing that also happened me when i was young i'm still young but i was and am also not confident in myself because what happened to me when i ws young it's pretty hard to live your life if you're hurt just saying and i think my sister does also miss it to eat with me she shows it sometimes. sometimes she even comes to me with the food and she says okay let's eat and it's just annoying. When we went to the amusement park we bought alot of food including the unhealthy food and everyone was eating in front of me we even went to a steakhouse after it but i couldn't eat anything, the only thing i have eaten was yoghurt with oatmeal and it ws awful i was disgusted and i had 2 granola bars as breakfast and a boil of rice as dinner this is how i survived the amusement park i still can't believe i didn't faint

    I am 5'5 and l went from 145lbs-87.3 lbs in 8 months. I went to NYC and went to M&M world. Ofc l brought chocolate. I ate a little. Then l was so afraid to be fat again l went to a toilet in McDonals and forced myself to.vomit all the chocolate l ate (less than 10M&M) and threw the rest in the garbage. My world centers around losing weight. Ik my stomach growls at certain times so l make sure l am alone at those times. My breath doesnt smell good bc l dont eat for long period of time and l always have gums with me or l try to talk as little as possible...l am silent and my friends hardly recognise me. I feel fatter than before. I have heart palpitations, low blood.pressure and low.blood sugar, l was hospitalised for cardiac arrest and l was very proud of myself because it means l .skinny enough to be sick and l am looking forward to be hospitalised again. There are so many so many problems. I am half korean too. Korea is very harsh with body image. My mother is a Korea lady and she would insult me daily when l was 145lbs. I wish the korean society can out more emphasis on inner beauty.

    I can totally understand her, because I was and still suffering people judgement about weight. I’m kind of person who can easily gain weight, because when I was stress I tend to eat more to release it. That makes me gain weight and stress even more.
    Beside friends and others people comments about my weight, one of the worst and hurtful comments come from my family members. Every meal, my mom said “Don’t eat too much, you’re fat”, dad said: “You’re a girl, girl have to be skinny to look beautiful, look at the actress she looks skinny and so beautiful....Boy doesn’t like fat girl”. Hearing these comments while eating really hurt me a lot, after eating I went to bedroom and quitely burst into tear. Sometimes, I heard mom and dad talk about me like “She’s fat that makes her face look bigger. Why doesn’t she diet?!”. And I can feel that they were shamed because of me. (Being fat and ugly)
    I know parents, and family always want best thing for me, but sometimes the way they comment, and judge my weight really hurt me a lot😭😭😭
    In the past, I succeed dieting, however, recently I was under so much stress and gained weight again.
    Now I’m dieting once again!!!

I used to eat only cucumbers, an would think, "I'll date when I'm skinny", " I'll go swimming, dance, skate, bike, hike, travel when I'm skinny" But it snapped in that if I did it now I'd probably become skinny. It sucks cuz people still comment that I'm fat, but I know I'm exercising, an having fun. An when I say that they leave me alone, an I feel a confidence talking back.

    Definitely mixed feelings here- there is a difference in losing weight for health benefits vs to look a certain way. I don't know that I will ever fully 'recover' from my own eating disorder, during high school and college I ate 600 calories a day, and worked out 2x a day for a minimum of 1.5 hrs each time, I only ate one type of food at a time, asking me to eat meat and a vegetable was a no go, it was one or the other. She is treading a dangerous line and her family, though concerned, aren't helping. To this day, my relationship with food is tenuous at best, I know I have to eat to live, its not a source of comfort or validation, which was how it was for my sister. every conversation seems to revolve around food in their family, and for the person restricting, that's the worst thing they could do :(

    I eat 5 times a day with a minimum of two cups of rice plus carbs as viand but Im not gaining any weight.. walking for atleast 6000 steps a day would help. The best way to maintain your weight is knowing yourself. Dont limit your food intake because you want to loose weight youre putting self in danger. You need carbs to function efficiently..

    For me, i really understand her. I used to be skinny until i enter college i become chubbier. So i decides to diet but in unhealthy way and really got skinny but i’m always grumpy like her. I only eat one meal a day and does not take carbs at all. At night and morning i only eat apples or other fruits. But it doesnt last long until my finals, i get stressed so i tend to binge at night and suprisingly, i gain more weight than before and i was overweight. My family and friends call me fat and laugh at me. Even when i dance they say that i dont suit it because i’m fat. I get really depressed until one time i snapped. I realize i should be happy with my life and i deserves happiness. So i started another diet but healthily where i dont cut carbs but only reduce it and i eat more protein and also drink green tea everyday and i now in normal weigt and still slowly dieting. And i still maintain my weight almost 4 months now. What i’m trying to say, people words could hurt us, they never knew what we struggling everyday. Its ok, let them be. Just be happy for yourself, be healthy, you only live once. Why not make it worthy one :)

    We need more exposure and outlets to emphasize the importance of mental health when it comes down to working out. It shouldn't just be the case of "working out will improve your mental health" but placing importance of the type of mindset we need to instill to reach to begin the workout towards improving our mental health. Too many facts but less emotional support shown behind everything we do to loss/gain weight. And that's something nobody talks about when going through the process. We need proper guidance on that part because too many are misguided especially for the young teenagers who don't understand it.

I hope she reaches her goal just to feel that she is still the same person and I hope she then focus on health instead of scale numbers. Once she reaches a sweet spot where she can enjoy good foods in moderation and still maintain a comfortable weight for her body type she will discover what brings joy in life and that it isn't numbers and sizes, it's enjoyable experiences.

    People really need to research before hand how to go on a diet properly. Diets should never be long term and under eating will cause major damage. Also, when people reach their ideal weight that will "make them happy," which it won't, they go back to their normal eating habits and gain it all back, since they destroyed their metabolism and is in starvation mode. As for the lady, she is going to have to go through a long recover just to be healthy and eat a maintainable diet.

    The fact that she was chubby as kid(and grown up) and family keep nagging about it. - It hurts and doesn't help her self esteem.
    I think its great she lost her weight because it gives her confidents. But she needs to take care of her health (physical and mental)
    I think Changsung is right. Once she reach her goal she might see that she is not happy. Not that losing weight is a bad thing. I think she needs to realized that being skinny does NOT "solve" all the problems Once she does that, she can loose weight in a good healthy way AND be happy

    I hope she'll end up eating healthy again. She's beautiful now, she was beautiful back then as well. She's heard so many painful things that you definitely don't want to hear when you're growing up. Obviously it messes with your self esteem.
    Imho the whole family could do with some serious counceling, not to sound rude, I honestly don't mean this offensively... but they have to learn how to communicate, preferably before the girl ends up in a hospital, or worse. This isn't an issue that can be solved over night, and can actually be extremely dangerous.

    I don't know why but I kind of feel like the brother was lying when he stated his sister looked better when she was fat and eating...no wonder she glanced at him weird. Maybe he not necessarily want his sister to be fat, but he want to at least she her back on a normal diet again, at least I hope that is what he really meant because I know it must be hard for her to have to struggle with her weight in the first place reason why she put such strict restrictions on herself when it comes to eating. But just having Cucumbers everyday is not a good diet and neither is starving yourself. The sister can still lose weight if she just balances out her meals, eat some protein, preferably lean meats, and a lot of fruits and vegetables, and whole grains!!

  • @carriemilly1421

    The best diet is eating what you normally eat but lessen the amount. The result won't reflect fast but you won't go through so much stress.

    People are so quick to yell anorexia. She is not underweight, she has a goal, she follows a diet - diets are never healthy and not a long term solution, hence the term diet. Many people follow diets to get down to their ideal weight, and then strive to get back to a new normal. It doesn't mean you have anorexia. Look up anorexia for reference.
