I’ve only ever really done volume and lofi automation for movement in songs so that high pass filter toggling off to give a sense of more bass sounds really cool. I’m going to have to try that in my next mix if it fits.
I use automated distortion for contrast, works especially well if the lead instrument is dominant in both verse and chorus. The volume contrast you did, I usually do by automating a trim knob before my final limiter. That gives some flavour too IMO. Very nice video, helpful stuff. Thank you.
Awesome tricks, made me think, could possibly toggle a stereo mix to go from mono then back to stereo? Maybe use a channel splitter on the master track and automate one side to bypass for a quick part of the song?
you know what for years i went off Sturgis productions because of that super typical "Rise Records" sound - it really started to annoy me for some reason! Im happy now listening to his more recent productions as they've progressed from that overly processed sound. Love you again Sturgis

I use reverse reverb trick on a vocal and sometimes instruments for contrast.
I like panning a lot for contrast, especially in breakdowns.
