There were about 20-30 people attending, and he made a Peter quiz, where the answer to all the questions was a famous person called Peter.

I remember the animated TV series Phineas and Ferb had an episode that featured a convention of people with the same name. I thought that was just a joke for the episode, but cool that it's something that really happens.
The moment this video started, I was immediately like: "If you don't mention the Josh Fight, I swear..." Luckily you did, so I wouldn't have to come up with a consequence...
My real name has several commonly used spellings. Whenever i meet someone with the same name we always immediately ask each other how its spelled. It's just a known thing among people with our name.
You need to look up the story of the meeting of Phillip Campbells in Phillip Campbell Alabama, USA. Before the meeting the town was hit by a tornado and turned into a fundraiser to rebuild the town
As Alexander I often met people with the same name. And yes, I have localized, Ukrainian version of the name, but Oleksandr is as popular name in Ukraine as Alexander in anglophone countries. So wherever I go I see my name. P.S. and my father wanted to name me Ihor (Igor). Which in Eastern Europe is also pretty popular.
You were able to find someone that had YOUR name 5 times? I had only found one and he was briefly on a television advertisement while I was running on the treadmill. As soon as I saw it, I said "HE HAS THE SAME NAME!". it was magical.
When I was at university there were two students in my hall of residence who were both called Michael John Holt and used to get each other's mail. Incidentally my own surname (Stearman) is pretty rare and is often misspelt as Steadman or Steerman - the latter is actually close in meaning as the 'stear' part is apparently an old form of 'steer' in the sense of an ox or bullock.
I love the music and the play “West Side Story,” except for ☝️ mistake in Bernstein’s script: Tony has fallen in love with a Puerto Rican girl named Maria, and in one scene he approaches the large tenement building where she lives, surrounded by other Puerto Ricans, and shouts out “Maria!” But only ONE girl goes out onto her balcony! ONE Maria in a building housing HUNDREDS of Puerto Ricans! But the play was wonderful, except for the sad ending.
This reminds me how my parents always found the names: Peter, David and Michael rather common in Australia and would often confuse people with one of these names.
Never met anyone with my name growing up, and when I met my husband he had a niece with the same name as me. Now that we're married, my neice and I also have the same last name. It's so weird
I once had a party where it turned out every male there- like thirty peope- were named 'eric' or 'james'. the James had it easy- 'jim' 'jamie' 'jay' and several other variations. the rest of us were just 'eric'
In the world of (slightly obscure) classical music, specifically French baroque, there were 3 cousins all called Jean-Baptise Loeillet who all wrote quite excellent music. Trying to untangle who wrote what is nowadays rather confusing. One went by "Jean-Baptiste Loeillet de Gant" (of Ghent) which helped, and another moved to London where he called himself Jack Loeillet.
I grew up about half hour or so from Elizabeth, IL. I'm reasonably sure my buddy's sister (Elizabeth, duh) went to one of the gatherings, she still lives in the area. Neat to see you talking about my little corner of the world 👍
In April 2011, the town of Phil Campbell, Alabama was badly damaged by a tornado. After the tornado, someone (don't remember who) organized a group of Phil Campbells to help clean up Phil Campbell. I think it was 72 of them, but I could be misremembering. So that's another slightly unusual same given- and family-name gathering.
I can't help but feel that all these records will be broken by a large margin once Indians start taking an interest in it. I literally know 17 people named Ananya in my school itself.
How did you miss the John Smith gathering? When I was a kid, I flew thru an airport for their gathering and saw the signs. It was huge, and they've been doing it for several decades already.
Growing up named Isaac in Sweden in the 80's, no one else had my name, hardly even the Swedish spelling Isak. There has been a slight increase in Isak/Isac among newly born. Which sometime makes for events like people calling my name, but they are really calling for their kids "hurry up Isaac!" But the strangest thing that happened to me involving my name was when a family named Isaac as a last name, living on the 4th floor in no 6 on my street, got my mail (me living on the 6th floor at no 4)
My last name is very common. but my name and maiden names aren't but there was a TV show in Australia (offspring) where a character with my 1st name marries a guy with the last name I had at the time lol
