- This staircase on 155th Street connects the lower level of Harlem to the upper level on Sugar Hill. What I didn't expect was the amount of disrepair, debris, poop, and urine on the stairs.

I see NYC is reverting back to the way it was back in the 70’s - early 90’s. The sad part is the gritty, savage, and brutality ways hasn’t even begun. I’m glad I don’t live there anymore.

Despite the spoiled areas caused by the few, I see a lot of beauty in the amazing ironwork on that staircase, as well as the fence on the left as you exit the stairway. The monument across from you when you exit and the entranceway to the subway station you start to enter are a reminder of what beauty lies under the soot and grime of the ages.

The column at 2:27 is the Hooper Fountain which has a wonderful history worth checking out. The craftsmanship on that metal staircase is just beautiful and brilliant and should be the star of this video, not the ephemeral crap. Within walking distance are Harlem River views, Macombs Dam Bridge, Yankee Stadium, Brush Stairway (any New York sports fan should go there), and a walkway to the underappreciated High Bridge and way more. I just checked and the Hooper Fountain is not even on google maps.
ActionKid, in my 37 years of life, I've been to that area a 100 times and never even approached that staircase. I always rather taken the D train by the Rucker back down to 145th st and taken A or C back near Edgecombe.

Even "The Hole" was better than that stair case. The folks that built the decorative railings next to the mountain of defecated and urinated steps must be turning over in their graves. What a disgrace to the ppl of Harlem. Community "Action" is needed.
They should start by not using the stairs as outhouse. Then with gloves, start picking up trash on the way home, just think, it will do wonders for your waistline. Take pride in yourself and your community:)

OMG chill the **** out. AK brought attention to the rundown stairs with the beautiful railing which viewers also noticed and by filming and commenting he will bring attention to this problem to the right people once the pandemic is over! More serious things to think about than AKs comment for A SET OF STAIRS! He made a comment it smelled like poop and pee, most of NYC and other BIG cities smell like poop and pee but if he had to comment each time he would miss the landmarks so many tourists gawk at! Maybe someone can invent masks with built in potpourris so you could just see the garbage, not smell it. Love ya AK, always have, always will. 😍

He does not know Harlem well. There are very nice areas of Central Harlem, also West Harlem like Strivers Row, Hamilton Terrace, City College, Riverside Drive, all of Convent Avenue, Bradhurst Avenue (which you can take instead of those stairs), just to name a few. He picked a staircase which is hidden and not heavily traveled by many.
@Turron Blando This was my first thumbs down on one of ActionKids' videos. He showcases restaurants and tourist spots in other neighborhoods. It was surprising to me that he isn't doing the same in Harlem. Central Harlem certainly has a plethora of food spots (not just African American or West Indian Cuisine). The area is heavily gentrified now so it is really weird that he picks these downtrodden locations in Harlem, let alone a staircase to video.

This video details the condition of the stairs. I respect that you don't appreciate the negative commentary, but I often do it to raise awareness of the realities of the situation. A community shouldn't have to live in these conditions, and the title of the video describes exactly what it is about. I love all neighborhoods in New York City, but many places as a whole could certainly do better.
