  • Elizabeth Gilbert came to her writing career with fearless reporting skills, an abiding appreciation for working-class values with an attendant skepticism of politically-correct liberalism. It was her bottomless yearning to understand the world and her place within it that drove her to become not just a writer, but an explorer.
This is her speech from ICAN's 2011 Women's Leadership Conference.

Super inspirational. I'm sharing this with the amazing mamas in my Project Me 'Back to Me' programme. I too am often mistaken for someone who's got their life together and they look to me as a role model for how they can get their life together. All I can do is share what's worked for me and share the tools and resources I use to make my life flow with more ease and grace. I believe we are all the experts of ourselves and that there is no one-size-fits-all formula.. Thanks for giving so many women permission to be imperfect and to wake up every day and just do their best.

Fantastically wise words from Elizabeth Gilbert. Thank you for making me sit back and think about life and where we've come from. Being in the moment and doing your best is so important.

Wow. So true we are always trying to find an answer to our craziness, a way out of it. We (or I) sometimes think we need to find it outside of ourselves the peace or whatever we need. We go on this journey without realizing its all about kindness and quieting the nasty voice that makes us second guess ourselves. So my prayer for all you and of course myself is for us women to accept our own kindness.

Thank you Elizabeth for your wisdom. And thank you so much for your normalness!!! You really made me smile and at the same time, it felt like i could be myself and fall flat on my face on some days and that was okay :)
I would love to speak with women like you do :)

Amazing speach! I keep thinking: how do people do it? Get lucky? I've just graduated from university and I have no idea what do do - which job to take, or should i take some time off and justtake my chances and move away to san francisco/vancouver/melbourne, or mabye, just mabye, i should continue studying.. but then which university should i take? and so on and on...and finally, if i choose wrong, others will be more successfull in life??? I know what she is talking about.. :)

I feel so much better now. I was just saying to someone, "How am I supposed to be this amazing person, when nobody I know is amazing?" Who do you look to? Who's your role model? For me, it's Frida Kahlo and, because I'm a writer, Liz Gilbert.
