Great install video! I put a Ravetech on my ‘19 V-Strom 650. I’m really happy with it - worth every penny. Mine has seen lots of rocks up close, a bit scarred but unfazed. They are made in Thailand. I ordered mine direct from the company.
Good to hear from you sir, glad you are happy with yours. I have a few hits on mine but it is holding up well.... thanks for watching.. keep safe out there... :)
Hello there sir, good to hear from you. The paint on mine is getting chipped up on the front as well. I am thinking it needs to be coated with some truck bed liner coating. That stuff doesn't chip easily, it is thick and soft. Thanks for watching and keep safe out there... :)
EXCELLENT! I believe I've found my new skid plate for my '21 650XT ADV! Working at a motorcycle dealership, I've seen'em all too! Just hoping I can trim the engine cowl to fit around the plate. (I just like the looks of it) SUBSCRIBED!
Just bought the same bike! I’m having a center stand put on before picking it up. Can you tell me if this skid plate interferes with a center stand (thanks)?
@@vf5126 Hello there sir. The skid plate goes on with the center stand no problems at all. My bike came with the center stand and I installed the skid plate without any issues... thanks for watching.. good luck and keep safe... :)
I watched another vid on mounting this plate before yours and yours was many orders of magnitude better. Great vid! Thoroughly explained and good camera work. Thanks!
Great job on the video, Jon. We'll compare your skid plate with the one on my 1000 when you're in E TN. Might be the same as mine. Have fun in NM and bring back some Adventure footage. I'm off to MT this Saturday. See you soon!
My friends and I all use Ravetech's skid plates exclusively. We are just another bunch of V-Strom riders. Ravetech is from Thailand and they are the strongest skid plates by far.
Hello there Mr. Octane, I would have to agree that the Ravetech is a pretty tough unit for sure. I have been told that they have gone out of business but I am not sure. Hope that is not the case.... thanks for watching... keep safe out there... :)
@@ozarksbackroads5484 You're right, they may be going out of business soon if they don't get more riders' support. It's a waste seeing a company making great products disappearing. That's the reason why I am actively recommending their products to all the V-Strom riders I know. Have a good day, you'll love that skid plate. I know mine have saved me many times.
It does look like a robust piece. Looks like it's pieced together with some nice beads. And it's color coordinated with the rest of the bike. Very important. She's lookin good.
John, It seems I remember that you added extra grease to the bearings of the front wheel by removing the seal cover for the bearing. If you did what video was that on. I have a V-Strom the same year, model and color as yours and I want to do the same thing to the bearings. Great video's John, keep up the good work! I also added the Dunlop Trail Master tires.
Good to hear from you sir, Yes I think I have showed that process a few times in my videos. I found one here that shows me doing that at around 9:30 in the video here... th-cam.com/video/upHXS8lakbo/w-d-xo.html Good luck with all of your projects and thanks for watching... keep safe out there... :)
I enjoy all of your posts. I think we might be about the same age and have the same riding goals, explore, have fun and come home without hurting the body or the bike. I also really enjoy "Motorcycle Travel Channel" and he just posted some good views of my neighborhood. You might enjoy watching, "Easy Overlanding in Southern Arizona.
@3:54 man I wish somebody would make a custom full exaust system that's routed closer to the engine. It looks like there's at least an inch of ground clearence to be had there. EDIT: never mind, on closer inspection the suspension linkage is also very low so ... yeah
hello there sir, good to hear from you. I haven't noticed any differences in sound from before to after the skid plate install on my V-Strom. The v-strom engine is a very quiet running engine.. doesn't make much noise to reflect back up I suppose. thanks for watching... keep safe out there... :)
Sir, great video! Is there any significant/noticeable weight impact from the skid plate? Any additional weight may be a good thing in terms of helping to lower center of gravity... Any other noticeable impacts (positive or negative) when riding? Thank you!
Hello there sir, sorry I missed your comment... I could not tell any difference with the bike after installing the skid plate. I don't think it is heavy enough to make any difference... Thanks for watching... keep safe out there... :)
Hey there sir... good to hear from you... the V-Strom has the crash bars that came on it new. those come on the XT models. they are good bars, I have not bent one and they are good to strap a small dry sack to like a sleeping bag sized sack on to.... Hope this helps... thanks for watching and keep safe out there... :)
Hello sir, good to hear from you. No I sold my FJR. I will try and get another one for next season. Yamaha was unable to get a service kit to my dealer to get the recall work done so I sold it to the dealer and now he is waiting on the service kit. Thanks for watching... :)
Great looking skid plate John. I leave this coming Friday for Hood River Oregon for 2 weeks as over 6000 miles. That should break in the new Pan America!😂 where you heading this year?
Sounds like you will have a lot of fun on that new ride. I am currently in New Mexico, been out here for a couple of weeks now. I will be heading to Apalacia in July for some smoky mountain riding as well. Have a great trip and keep safe.... :)
Great video. Like all your others. Ordered my Ravetech DHL says it's on the truck out for delivery. While waitting I remember someone saying that bolt holding the kick stand on is super hard to get off. 14mm box end can't break it. Add a bottle jack to end of wrench no give. Got out my 1/2 inch impact 18 inches of extensions and coming in from the other side just above the exhaust puts it in line with the bolt. Even the impact had a time of it getting that bolt loose. Lots of lock tight on that one. Did you also have a time getting that on off?
Hello there sir, good to hear from you. You have a pretty nice skip plate there. I don't remember mine being super tight but I imagine it had a good dose of lock tight on it. Enjoy and thanks for watching... keep safe out there... :)
Hello there sir, good to hear from you... yes I have lifted mine under the skid plate several times.. it is plenty strong enough for that... thanks for watching... keep safe out there... :)
Hey there Josh ... good to hear from you. The crash bars are the factory bars that came on the bike new. My bike is the XT so it came with bars, handguards and paniers. No vibes that I am aware of on this bike... the 90 degree V-Twin is a very balanced engine so vibes aren't usually an issue... Thanks for watching.. good luck on your projects and keep safe out there... :)
@@ozarksbackroads5484 thanks for the reply! Love the videos, I just picked up a 2018 650xt but that year didn't have the crash bars so ill be putting some on. I will say after just one weekend with the bike I love it!
Hello there... good to hear from you. I am sorry but I do not know anything about international shipping so I cannot be any help to you on that subject.
