You know what I’m going to say Phil😂 fantastic motorcycle and your 100% right such a mouldable platform leaving the rider plenty of options to customise it to their own riding preference. Great vid mate👌
Well you are correct Curtis, best of a bike that can become anything you want ir too - obviously within reason. Great machine, loving it, need to put some miles on it 😎👍
Ha ha, I just bought a Rally , the DRZ was definitely on my short list, but I opted for the 6 speed, more modern tech motor, so far I'm impressed. I just released a review of the Rally on my channel. Must be review weekend. Good job with yours, perfect description of the DRZ.👍
It is a great bike, a huge following, and plenty of aftermarket parts to make it into almost any bike you might need. That said, if I could choose from the DRz's..... I'd take the "E" version except they aren't selling them in America, if they did they stopped. I'm not sure that I'd buy a new one either, but for the right price I get one used. And most folks will have modded out the bike to some extent. This bike holds high in my list for a bike to buy = in my top 3. Thanks for the coverage.
Love the , it’ll be alright mate attitude you have , miss that from the uk but went to school in Melbourne and Gold Coast , beautiful country and great people 👍
Great simple informative video. I’ve just inherited my son’s DRZ400, and plan to set it up how he wanted it, very similar to yours actually. Good work 💯🇦🇺
Great video, I like your style. I can’t make my mind up between the DR or DRZ for my first upgrade from my CRF250 when I get the chance. I haven’t ridden either but i like the sound of the DR for shorter riders being only 174cm myself and I also like the sound of air cooled vs water cooled for reliability. It was good to hear that you owned the DR and put a good amount of kms on it before purchasing the Z.
Cheers mate. If you're shorter, and don't mind the extra weight (only a problem if you drop the bike 😉) and want a machine that's super reliable, built like a brick outhouse, and has nothing fancy to play up, get the DR650 is a terrific machine/ Perfect for long-range exploring 👍
@@MidCoastAdventures Excellent, thanks for the tips. Ideally, I would love to own both ;) The fact that the DR are no longer available appeals to me, so I buy it while they are still around. Hopefully, our ridiculous government won’t legislate them for ‘not adhering’ to the ‘world standards.’
Your in the zone now mate, I picked my dr 400 up a few months back and am loving it, never had another bike but its awesome, look out for some south coast content from my direction in the nearish future.. inlakech' enjoy the ride'
Good to see you've found the bike that suits you mate. If the seat is a bit too hard try one of those mesh seat covers. They're cheap and keeps the air circulating under your backside in summer.
glad you like your 'new' bike - i also like old tech - abs and ride modes are just more things to go wrong - i did ride the cf moto 450 the other day and was very impressed
Love the simplistic, super strong design of the DRZ (and DR650) just a perfect example of, "If it ain't broke, don't fix it" Lots of CFMoto 450's sold up this way - according to local dealers 👍
The more I see about the DRZ400E the more I like it.! Currently I have a Honda CB500X which I ❤️ to bits , but at the same time is a little daunting to take to far off road due to its almost 200KG kerb weight. Thanks for sharing your impressions on just how good the DRZ is. ✅
The, CBX 500 is a beautiful mid sized adv bike, keep it if you can. The,DRZ is tractor work horse. Will go anywhere you are brave enough to point it . But no comfort at all compared to the Honda CBX....
I had both SM and e. 5 sp is annoying. My e could be a pain starting warm, but great cold. I stalled it a couple of times on slow steep hill climbs, and had to wait for it to cool to start. I prefer fuel injection, modern dash and did I mention 6 gears...AND auto reserve.
Thanks for the great content phill, mate, could you please give us your thoughts on sitting on 100 klm, on both drz and rally. Eg comfort, rev, range, is only having 5 gears really that bad ect
Thanks Steve 👍 Ok, sitting 100 kph, both are revving pretty hard - 6700 for the Rally and 6000 (with my 15/43 gearing) for the DRZ. Remember both are high revving engines - redline for the Rally around 10700 rpm, and 10500 for the DRZ. That said Rally needs to be sitting in the 5000 to 7000 range to get up and go. DRZ, in the 4000 to 6000 - its a much more torque engine. Long story short, if Suzuki brought out the DRZ (and DR) with 6 speed boxes, wow, what a tough, touring machine as well. Both will do 100 fairly comfortable, both will be revving 👍
I saw The Apprentice Adventurer have a problem with the carby slide, a piece broke off and went through the engine. “ A known problem”. WTF. That’s an issue worth getting your head around. I love my DR650 but that was a shock revelation about the DRZ
I'd say the metal from the carb slide into the engine, thing would have to be crazy rare . I'd never heard of it from any DRZ owners - ever. Cheers mate
@@MidCoastAdventures Happened on the way back from the cape and he did at least one vid on the aftermath. It’s worth a watch. It was a while ago but he suggested that the research he did recommended the slide be routinely replaced. DRZ is no doubt a great bike but maybe one to watch

Good to hear you are on the Drz now, fellow Drzer from Coffs way , we might bump into each other soon Phil
Cheers Russ
Cheers Russ, I head up that way a fair bit, so pretty good chance and seeing you on the trails mate 😎👍
They are a great bike, I really considered getting one, however went with something that is better suited to two up travels. Great review!!
Cheers Bogor, and totally agree! The DRZ for two-up travels is definitely not a good choice...lol Catch ya mate 👍

Does look like a perfect waterfront spot. Just picked up a Himalayan 452 for long rides but keeping my KLX400r. Yes, it does get up and go.😊

They're fun, old school machines 😎👍
@@MidCoastAdventures my wife is pretty tolerant, but if I talk about a third bike, she quite rightly might have something to say… :-) Hahahahaha
A sixth gear would be handy for the commute to the good roads.
Definitely! Other-wise pretty bloody close to perfect 24 years ago!

The KISS method is best...no need to re-invent the wheel. Garth
Well put Garth 👍
Hope you feel about the drz vs crf300 rally?
Two very different machines, both will do the same job. Ill have to do a detailed comparison pretty soon 👍
Where can I get a CFmoto 450mt? I’m in Dallas TX
I have no idea, sorry
Suzuki DR-Z400
Manufacturer Suzuki
Power 31.8 hp (23.7 kW) @ 8,400 rpm
That's the "S" and "SM" models. The E model - which thankfully we get in Australia, is 38.8 👍
Here in Australia you are looking at 36kW
@@MidCoastAdventures Thanks for the clarification.
