Awesome video explaining exactly what I need to look for when I try to tackle Comparadun’s. Being fairly new to fly tying, I haven’t advanced my skills enough yet to tackle them. Mega Thx !!!
Very informative! I've experienced the 'hump' you talked about and figured it was just something I had to put up with. I'll keep my eyes open to the 'top notch' hair in the future.
We use Roe deer hair. In particular it's a strip from the crown of it's back....The thing is Roe is only available here in Scotland in the winter. So we need to plan ahead.
Great video! I’m in the US and I’ve had to many issues with deer hair. I’ve called shops all around the country and everyone tells me this isn’t a good year to find good deer hair. I’ve even spoke to the companies that process the stuff. I’ve wasted so much money on deer hair and I don’t have one solid piece of deer hair that does what your good patch does. I’ve just given in and started using cow elk.
Great video George. You'll still fool most of the fish with the inferior hair but i was lucky enough to have a patch of the good stuff and can relate. Thought I was the only one looking for good deerhair.
Haven't tried recently, the patches themselves are half the size of one's from other suppliers, but far superior, still have 1/2 a patch left at the moment

Hard to find though.

We don't have Roe in Ireland unfortunately, I used to stalk Fallow, I found their hair less than useless.

Thanks for sharing!! Does the cow Elk do the job?
Blue Ribbon Flies in West Yellowstone Montana USA has top notch hair. Craig Mathews who developed the sparkle dun comparadun owns the shop....
Impossible to get here in Ireland.
As always great video. What are your thoughts on the tail being CDL vs the typical Antron/Zelon for the sparkle sun? Do the fish equally?
In my experience the antron tail is more likely to elicit a positive response.
Going to start fly fishing what set up would u recommend to get me started
9' 3 or 4 weight, light as possible and light reel to match.
@@springerspanielful thanks

When you can get it, I believe it's in short supply.
