    Thank you. This was helpful for me to take out the amp to send out for repair.

      Was it easy to send it out for repair ?

    I used a putty knife in the thin gap at the top to get the amp out. Two hits with a rubber mallet popped it loose. Replacement amp is now $180. Same sub on Amazon is $299.

      Good eye! If something like this happens again, I'll keep that in mind!

      That is not "tape", it's a rubberized glue that's used on connectors to keep them in place.
      The connector does look like it's not properly connected... sad that it passed factory Quality Control like that.

    Thanks for this video. I just purchased this Woofer. I am curious about what is inside and especially to look at its Class D amplifier.

    I hate when you take audio equipment apart and when things are hard to put back or take off. You wonder if the designer or company ever thought someone might have to take it apart to fix someday. Meaning something that takes 10 mins and actually take 2 hours. Also, I like when the yt video tells what to look out for or learned not to do to save other the heartache.

    Cool. I've had mine for about 7 years and it's had no problems. Infact I hooked up a minidsp hd to it and it sounds even better. But in the chance it does have problems I'm definitely going up to a big boi sub like a monolith 😆

      they are not the best for music, they do decently good, but for movies, man they pack a punch.

    My subwoofer just started making that annoying thumping sound. It definitely wasn't there yesterday. Already tried a lot of things, but it hasn't worked.

    This is why i hate active speakers and subwoofers once something goes wrong its a nightmare compared to just replacing a dedicated amplifier

  • @ZERO-CAPACITANCE

    So you have to replace your amplifier, but you don’t know why? Try the capacitors?

    I dont know what happened to my bic america f12 i think it might be half blown because at low volumes you can hear the coil unraveled ir it can be something else?

    • @LightsAndButtons
      @LightsAndButtons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Sorry, to be honest, I have not ever dealt with a blown sub

    • @dunderh3ad
      @dunderh3ad 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      did you ever push it hard? (overpower it for a little while)

    • @dunderh3ad
      @dunderh3ad 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      if you didn't, I would check inside to see if something is hitting the speaker. One time a had an old Yamaha sub and I heard a coil rattle. I opened it up and found a leaf on top of the spider of the speaker. If there is nothing, its most likely the amp.

    Thought he was actually going to repair the board not change out parts...

    • @DrTeddyMMM
      @DrTeddyMMM 2 ปีที่แล้ว +3

      He couldn't remove the back panel and you thought he was going to do board level repair...
      Most likely this repair could have been done for less than $10 by identifying the failing electrolytic cap/s on the driver board.

    This exact thumping sound is coming from my logitech z5500. I tryed everything with cables and nothing works. Also I opened the sub and didn't noticed anything wrong. And it's strange, because it happens everyday in the evening. I have everything plugged into surge protector. It just drives me crazy. Z5500 are more than 10 years old. Anyone have any ideas? Someone told me about Ferrite Core Cord Noise Suppressor. Do you think that will help? Ty all.

    I have similar issue. But my sub is old like 11 years. It also have only 150w not that powerful thinking just buying a new one instead.

    • @LightsAndButtons
      @LightsAndButtons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Glad you had at least had span of time with yours! I used to use a Yamaha 8" 100W sub mainly for music. It was good, but struggled if I put on a movie with low rumbling sounds.

    How did you remove the driver? The front of mine feels like it is glued on

    • @LightsAndButtons
      @LightsAndButtons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      You may need to push it a little. It may be attached firmly and just got "stuck" over time. I don't recall seeing any adhesives

    • @LightsAndButtons
      @LightsAndButtons  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      After disconnecting the driver, I didn't need a whole lot of force to remove it

    I have a Bose system pre-installed in my basement and each time I watch a movie, the sub will rattle the walls. What can I do to reduce this annoyance please?

    • @LightsAndButtons
      @LightsAndButtons  4 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Thanks for watching! I started to calibrate my home theater a while back but I'm by no means an expert. I've heard of a couple of things that may help... moving the sub away from corners can change the properties of the sound. Not sure if that includes walls rattling. Another possible fix could be acoustic panels, which I haven't looked into yet. They can stop some unwanted reflections in sounds, and since they absorb sound, maybe that can reduce rattles?

    • @sars960
      @sars960 4 ปีที่แล้ว

      Lyza I'm making some assumptions. It sounds like your Bose system is pre-installed into the wall. Is the woofer itself rattling, or is the low bass frequency causing other parts of the house to rattle? I know that with car audio some tesa tape along the contact points of rattling trim will reduce or remove any rattling noise. If you can identify which parts are rattling against each other, you should be able to try that low-cost solution first.

    well wasnt the thing that broke probably just like a dollar?

  • @TheAirheaded1
    @TheAirheaded1 4 ปีที่แล้ว

    Wish you played it, do they shake the room? Worth buying ?

    • @LightsAndButtons
      @LightsAndButtons  4 ปีที่แล้ว

      It does have a good punch, include very low frequencies. I used to use a 100W 8" sub, but it can distort easily. This runs circles around that. My wife did tell me the upstairs floor was shaking when I had it turned up. It'll be hard to show the power on camera, though. Maybe we'll demonstrate how loud it is by how many angry neighbors knocking on the door? :)

      If I had to buy it again, I'd do it. I really like it for the price!
