    Mr. Basil Rathbone was INDEED the greatest Sherlock Holmes that has ever lived! NO ONE comes close to him as he always delivers Holmes as a sharp, intelligent, quick witted, and master crime solver of all time! Thank you for the great memories!

    Basil was a hero in the war. He was a great Gentleman and one of the finest actors of all time . What a legend ! I love him and it's so sad he passed away in 1967. His wife did love the parties and he had to work to pay for them . He loved acting and was stereotyped as Sherlock Holmes. He was like lugosi and Chaney he will always be Sherlock Holmes! What a fine man , long live his memory!

      The parties were a responsibility given to the Rathbone’s by the British Consulate. They served in this way during WW2. Basil Rathbone was in the Great War.

    I'm twenty-years-old, and I think that he is handsome! I've loved watching him in old movies with my Grandma! I've seen him in A Tale of Two Cities as the Marquis St. Evermonde. Of all the portrayals of that character which I've seen, his is the most powerful and convincing!

    What a little beauty of an interview you have got here. I love basil rathbone as sherlock holmes, nigel bruce as watson. Well basil your movies from 1939-1946 are still watched today. Terriffic actor and what i would give to spend an afternoon chatting to this man. His quote on giving actors stardom far to early is correct. Heaps of money and fame and it destroys alot of them. Its still happening today bssil. Took basil 14 years to master his part. A true genius of acting. In which wee rarely see today. This is 2019. In 20 years wee will be at 100 years since The Hound Of The Baskervilles, and The Adventures Of Sherlock Holmes. R.I.P my friend. You are in history as one of the very very best, if not thee best portrayals of Sherlock Holmes.

      Mr Rathbone’s film career can basically be divided into three sections: Villain, Sherlock Holmes, and Horror. He was also a master fencer - witness “The Adventures of Robin Hood” and “The Mark of Zorro.” Despite tiring of Holmes, he attempted a comeback in the role - in a couple of TV pilots, and in a stage play written by his wife! None were successful. He also recorded readings of some of the original stories. A great talent!

    Today there are no genuine actors no talent all movies consist off action and no acting. Oh! how Basil Rathbone could teach up and coming actors with master classes on how to become not just good actors but to take the time to learn the craft which may take many years to become to the pineal of their careers. Basil was a true master of the art of acting who was so versatile a true gentleman and such a handsome man with a voice like velvet.

    TY very much for this upload, a wonderful interview with one of my favorite actors. Interesting how Basil Rathbone quickly glossed over his Hollywood years. Ouida was a constant drain on him physically, financially & mentally, what he chooses not to say, is more telling than his spoken words. He had to keep working right to the end of his life, purely to furnish her lavish & spendthrift lifestyle.

    Basil Rathbone career was incredible considering he was born in 1892, which would meant he would have been in his mid 40s when he appeared with Errol Flynn in the Adventures of Robin Hood. Apparently he kept in good shape by having daily fencing exercises.

    Well they did do just that in American news broadcasts they taught everyone a generally midwestern accent for the greatest national acceptance. It's considered the most "neutral." Thats a fact we learned in broadcasting school. Of course it didn't start until well after Rathbone had passed, so he was prophetic.

    As most people do, Rathbone uses the word "accent" in place of "dialect". Accents are one languages influence over another being spoken. An Italian speaks English with an Italian ACCENT. DIALECTS are variations within a language. English with an Southern accent for example. He mentions a standard "accent" for actors- devoid of accent. Impossible! Fascinating Interview!

    • @jefolson6989
      @jefolson6989 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      @@DavesRabbitHole English is a special case. I think one might use the word accent to refer to English spoken in different countries. English spoke with an Australian or America accent should be correct, as opposed to English in the Cornwall dialect. But that's only my opinion.
