That rod looks awesome! I love my 6' 6" TFO Trout and Panfish II and that looks even better... of course.. it should. I love the bend in that rod while you were fighting the fish, and if the sensitivity is what I think it is... I'm going to need one of those! I love the color and those style handles look like they're sneaking into the American market from Japan. Most comfortable handle I've ever used. For a while my TFO was fighting for my favorite rod neck and neck with my Dobyn's, but in the end, my Dobyn's still edges it out. That looks like it might be a new contender! My new #1 is my Olympic Bellezza, but I still take both the TFO and the Dobyn's with me every time I go out. Different purposes / techniques now, and the Bellezza is not just an Ultra Lite, it's a Super Ultra Lite. Different world. ...Funny thing. Today I caught my first several Gills (and Bass) using the Dakota Sunrise Horsefly! One of my personal favorite plastics for Gills and Crappie.
I picked up a Panfish II UL from their warehouse earlier in the year. The guy there was super nice and helpful and even let me check out some of their new rods. He even explained the paint they use. This was a great review, I'll for sure have to pick one up soon straight from the warehouse.
I love my two pastime rods. I have the 6’6” ultralight and the 7’ light. The light is a blast on smallmouth and largemouth. The ultralight is fun on everything. I have way too many TFO trout and panfish rods version 1, 1.5, and 2 but when I saw they introduced the centra as their first USA bass rod I was hoping they would do something similar with their trout and panfish series. I think they knocked it out of the park with the pastime. Awesome video man.
That's a great stick my friend. Might have to put a pin in it until I'm doing less bank fishing. It has nice power and action and I do love hitting panfish with the vertical approach. Very nice of TFO to send you out 2. Blessings brother
Thanks for the review. I was seriously considering this rod but in the end I just went ahead and ordered the components I wanted and had a custom wrap done. I figured for that much money I should get the exact rod I want without compromise. Love your vids.
My St. Croix Avid Panfish rods have the same kind of oddlybshaped guides. I'm not sure what the point is either. They didn't talk about it on their website. Maybe I'll email them to find out. If I remember to do it (price of getting old! 😂), I'll let you know! The TFO looks like a really nice rod! I'll make sure to keep an eye on your Instagram. Great video as always, Ethan! 🎣
The new triangular design reduces the touching and friction of the coils, leaving the spinning reel by 25%, delivering anglers with longer and more accurate casting ability. Additionally, the proprietary Adaman finish is the most durable on the market and eco-friendly. Lightweight, sensitive, and nearly bullet proof!
I see a lot of design queues between this model and the Trout & Panfish II at half the price. The "Made in USA" concept is great, but TFO appears to be competing against themselves on this one.
250 dollars is the price of american made quality. I passed on the trout and panfosh. Ecaise seemed like theyd do it again but better so i waited and here it is. Looks like a good rod to test out some mule fishing products on.
Nice I loved their tfo panfish rod. Looks like a great rod. Check out the UL suppressor rod from old 18. Micro guides with zirconia inserts, Winn grips, premium carbon blank, one of the best rods I ever held in my hand
Been fishing the Trout-Panfish series rods since the first gens. The reduced weight to the TP2 was great but as a single income family man I can’t justify the price point. I’d love to see if it can handle what we do.
I've been wondering, why do some people cast right-handed and reel with their right hand and rod in left? I've only been fishing for a couple years, but I'm right-handed and cast with my right and reel with my left. Either way, love the videos! Got me into ultralight fishing, it's almost exclusively how I fish freshwater now lol.
Love your vids! I was hoping you could help me, if you have an UL rod rated up to 1/8OZ do you take the weight of soft plastics into account or would you be comfortable throwing a 1/8 jig plus the weight of the plastic?
You can throw a soft plastic on a 1/8th jig just fine. Dont worry too much about being exact when it comes to ratings. "Close enough" will work, so long as youre not being silly and throwin a 2oz glide bait or somethin
Nice, I've been hoping you'd review this one! As a St.Croix guy I'm always looking for other UL rods made in the US. Especially since St.Croix's UL lineup is just dang lackluster.
I have not. Just can't deal with that awful plastic handle they slapped on the panfish and the trout series rods 🤣. I do have a 6' ULF and a 6'9 ULF Avid panfish. The 6' has been ok for throwing panther martins in tight trout streams and the 6'9 excels at everything. Hands down my favorite UL stick. I just wish SC offered more high end UL rods in the sub 6' category. I'd kill for a 5' legend tournament panfish rod.
I've got similar regrets with the St Croix Eyecon series. Great rod, sensitivity and it's versatile for bass and walleye. The plastic reel seat is hot garbage and it's already trying to strip in less than a year. I'm probably going to have a local rod and reel repair shop replace it with a better quality Fuji. Even if it means sacrificing the split grip. I feel your pain
Yeah! there's a ton of JDM Trout and Bass rods from MajorCraft/Daiwa/Shimano/Abu ..for this price or less . Only thing is if they break you're screwed on the warranty lol .
I use crb minima guides on many of my personal ultralight builds. They are all metal with metal inserts, aren't cheap and work excellent, and you never have to worry about cracked inserts.
For cripes sake mount the handle on the left side of the reel so you don’t have to play that silly, unnecessary pattycake pattycake hand swapping game.
Probably used a rh retrieve growing up. I'm left handed so it's always been perfect for me, but my brother does this because we just grew up casting like that. But I'm just gonna assume you know that already and just want to gripe about something 😂
Was going to buy this Rod off there website since it is the only place that sales it at the moment. But after shipping and taxes over $300 💀 ended up getting the Diawa Presso Air 6,6 paired with the Diawa Exceller Lt 1000 love the combo so far. Solid tip is super sensitive 🫡👌 Presso Air $200 Sexy looking Rod. Paired with Iron Feather 5lb braid (Pink)
Yeah, imagine paying more money for something made in your country with materials from your country. Unbelievable 😂 what kind of world do we live in. 😂 Stick with that Asian stuff. You're good for it
The problem with trying them here is that my channel will get all sorts of spam bots which try to scam people. I don’t want anyone to end up falling for something like that. It’s frustrating!
Thank you for the great review, Ethan! Glad you enjoyed the Pastime! 🇺🇸

Always nice to see more upper tier ultralight gear! Bur I think my next ultralight rod is gonna be your beloved Sierra.
Oh man... this looks JUICY!

I've been eyeing that rod since it was announced man. It's such a good looking stick!
Running traditional A Scope fishing open water and working the vertical jig 👌 Ice fishing vibes

Nice looking rod, pricey though. Have a fun week!

Love my first gen Trout and Panfish from TFO, best rod I have, but I really would love this new sleek Pastime rod

awesome vid. debating on this or the st.croix elite panfish now for next year...
Great video I have the same type of year I cannot find the crappy
I’ve fished with John a couple times. Gotta find the time/money to get back out his way. I wondered if by your name you knew him too.
What line were you using? I always enjoy you giving them BG an out of water experience,,,
Shoot I hope my first ever giveaway win comes for this rod 😂 dope video
I got their regular panfish rod, man I wish I knew this was coming! I wonder who makes them.

The past time seems more bottom contact use vs the panfish 2.
Ethan are you coming out 2025 with any new plastics or new colors? Love the baits.
Any estimate on when the mule jig head 1/32 chartreuse will be back in stock?
Do you have a video on the drop shot rig?You used in this video?
If so where can I find it?
Where you at? We need a fishing trip.
I need along distant casting light rod for ultra light.Any suggestions?
Will this be a long caster even though it’s fast Dobyns Sierra Trout and Panfish Series Spinning Rod 2 Piece 7'4" Ligh
Will you please try a amazing budget reel called the Carbon X
Nice, I've been hoping you'd review this one! As a St.Croix guy I'm always looking for other UL rods made in the US. Especially since St.Croix's UL lineup is just dang lackluster.
Have you tried their panfish light extra fast? It's just money

Curious if you put mono or fluorocarbon under your braid?
$250? For that price i rather get the JDM Daiwa Presso Air AGS. Much better rod in every aspects.
Yeah! there's a ton of JDM Trout and Bass rods from MajorCraft/Daiwa/Shimano/Abu ..for this price or less . Only thing is if they break you're screwed on the warranty lol .
It looks like a good rod but I think at this price point there are much better options to have.
Hmm I'll probly go for the ultralight tatula xt need a new eging rod haha
i was wondering is there something smaller than a size 1000 reel sometime i feel like its just a little too much
A lot of the cheaper shimano and daiwa reels have 500 size.
I use a Shimano SOARE BB 500SPG with shorter/lighter rods. Perfect match with a 5’6” XUL Daiwa. Adorable tiny reel.
Don't get 500 😂😂 if you do, only use braid. Cuz that is gonna get on your nerves otherwise
500's can't cast as far either!
@@Lt.Dans_Legs-freesp3Ak what’s wrong with 500’s? other than the casting?
Man, I got my used kayak with a fish finder for $220 off Craigslist. Seems awfully expensive to a poor person like myself.
St. Croix, other than some travel fly rods, are overpriced relative to better or equally good alternatives.
$250 for Stainless guides and inserts??? Hard pass. You can drop that money on a JDM rod and get much better.
Exactly. Hard pass dude.
I use crb minima guides on many of my personal ultralight builds. They are all metal with metal inserts, aren't cheap and work excellent, and you never have to worry about cracked inserts.
@@doinitwithjl5421 Great, not worth the price tag IMO.
I rather spend that money on an UL Ugly Stick, & 🍺.

I will say, I don't think daiwa is sending us forced labor products from prison. So that's a plus!
