  • Removing the M20 Intake manifold can be a real pain. But, I finally got around to refinishing my E30 intake manifold with the same wrinkle finish as the valve cover.
This wrinkle finish on the E30 Intake and Valve over has really cleaned up the look and presentation of the M20 engine.

So thankful this was out there! I’m doing a head gasket, this dang intake manifold dreaded me. It’s funny because I got the same wrinkle paint planning on doing the exact thing haha

I am doing my fuel injectors, I'm going in the other way but it was great to see how they actually are on the intake manifold. Very helpful.

At first I thought this video was going to be some generic tutorial, but man was I wrong! The quality of your video is amazing-how its shot, the lighting, music, editing, good well done. Keep it up!

Thank you! I'm going for the non-generic tutorial feel, so that's good to hear!

I'm a visual learner, and quite honestly don't have the patience to read through some crazy long thread on the forums so this really helped, I'll be throwing on a resprayed manifold in the same black wrinkle and silver finish as well as throwing on some rebuilt stock injectors along with a slew of other maintenance bits in the engine bay. Thanks for sharing this!

Is there a good way to keep the manifold bolts in the socket when putting the manifold back on? The bolts that are near the firewall are F’ing hard to get to.

Great video thanks! Will be doing this with mine soon for sure. My fuel rail is also very rusty. Do you happen to know where I can get the one you have so I can be certain it'll fit? Thanks!

I did mine in the heat paint i think its the same stuff because it said the same heavy coat so inturn i had some runs i had to take time to fix lol gotta love going against the what you know lol looks good man! my valve cover has another rondel on but mine doesn't look that good i should have used a dremel to sand down the high points don't use a wire wheel there too abrasive it was taking off too much

hi, i just wanted to see how the early model return line is located to the intake manifold. Is it possible, that there is physical damage on the return hose from the intake manifold? maybe i was seeing it wrong.

I’m having an issue where my 5speed e30 while driving or in idle at random points will show that its overheating and the car will lose power and go into limp mode. If I shut the car off and on again it is right back to normal, any idea what that could be ? I’m going crazy

So I'm hindsight best to remove lower radiator hose so you don't bathe your block.

Wow, just found your channel. Unbelievable production quality for E30 videos on YT.
    Thanks!
Quick question, is the baking absolutely necessary? I’m afraid to stink of the kitchen or whole house by doing so.
Let me know what you think!

Use a Heat gun to get it to wrinkle. Then install. Then drive it. The heat from the engine will bake it just the same.

Where did you get the air filter? And I have a 1990 bmw 325i and it’s running rich and I believe gas is dripping out of the exhaust tips which is why I’m watching this video because I’m going to replace the fuel injectors but if that doesn’t work do you have any other ideas of what it could be?

Once you removed the manifold.... was the starter easy to access? I’m currently in the process of this and hoping to replace my starter also.

If you are in there, you might as well. It's probably the most cramped area on this motor/car so it's nice to have some breathing room.

Congratulations Einstein you just added heat to something that used to dissipate heat very well and also made it look like plastic and not to mention eliminated the beautiful incredible Jewel like properties of aluminum
