  • In this video I show you some modifications to my homemade mushroom fruiting chamber and include a time lapse of oyster mushrooms growing out. Check my earlier videos for a step by step on how I built the chamber.

    This is great! I might try building one soon and add a humidity controller to possibly mitigate the accumulation of water in the chamber.

    I. Would use the hubby's hole saw and attach a pour spout on the bottom pan?

    I only just found this video. In the process of making a fruiting chamber. You could try Perlite. Psychedelic mushroom growers quickly wash it, rinse and pour it in the bottom. I believe it does retain moisture, so you could just try using enough for your cake to have something to sit on, so the Perlite doesn't compete with your humidifier. That should keep your shroomies nice and dry.

    a plug timer would be useful to reduce water pooling, a great fruiting chamber nonetheless

    Is the fan blowing or sucking air out?
    Did you measure the humidity? Maybe you don't need so much steam -> you could use a timer for the power socket to limit the water filling on the bottom.
    Thanks for the video :)

      Yep a timer would definitely help. Never bothered to measure the humidity. The fan is blowing fresh air in. It's probably a little overkill but seems to work.

    It is nice to see a follow up on your project! Are the seams on the expansion panels sufficiently air-tight? Or purposely NOT air tight? Thanks!

    • @thejackalopefarm6201
      @thejackalopefarm6201  ปีที่แล้ว

      They are not air tight. Not on purpose though. I could probably seal it up with some tape or silicon but it would look messy. Seems to work fine as is.

    Honestly you don't even have to use the reptile fogger. You just need moist perlite and you can either spray it or use a wicking cloth in front of the fan; preferably something that's not made from organic materials.

    That's cool. Exactly what I wanted to do. Can you use that water to inoculate more bags/jars?

      Good question. I would bet there would be a high risk of contamination.

      No heat. Its in the house so temp is room temp controlled by thermostat. Thank you for watching!

    That's a lot of water. It doesn't seem like it would require that much water going in there everyday. Have you considered any way to turn down the humidifier for it doesn't put so much water in there.

    • @thejackalopefarm6201
      @thejackalopefarm6201  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Its already at the minimum setting. Doesnt bother me to do it. The other option would be to put the entire outlet on an intermittent timer. But I have not seen a fruiting chamber that does not require drainage of some sort. Theres always a spray bottle 😉

      @@thejackalopefarm6201 I like that idea. Put the humidifier to where it comes on for an hour every 6 hours. I've been growing pink oysters. I put them in cardboard boxes. Because they're supposed to consume the cardboard box and then just grow the mushrooms off the side of the box wherever they want to.
      I don't know if it'll work. But I've got boxes layered with hardwood sawdust and popcorn grain spawn in black garbage bags incubating now.

    Is there a reason the block cant be turned on its side to grow out the mushrooms? (so its not so top heavy)

    • @thejackalopefarm6201
      @thejackalopefarm6201  2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      I actually tried, so much water pooled on the inside of the package that it was getting mushy. What would actually be best would be to suspend it inside of a fruiting chamber, which some larger growers do. They have large walk in fruiting rooms with their bags suspended from the ceiling. Its just a space issue in such a little chamber.

      @@u.synlig not a bad idea, wouldnt even have to be small, infact it would have to be large enough to also support the weight of the mushrooms once they begin to flush. If it cant the block would just continue to tip forward as it becomes top heavy.
