    Distance away from the ball is something a lot of folks take for granted. But, the reality is there is an ideal distance away from the ball you should stand. In this video I take you through how to find that ideal distance through body posture and checkpoints and by actually measuring the distance.

    Really helpful video Eric, I started shanking even a 7 iron and using this method I checked my posture and set up and recalibrated it on the range, not a single shank today! So very clearly explained and no waffle, great video, thanks!

    Eric sent me this link after i responded to his 'tilt' video and mentioned distance from the ball. He reads these! EXCELLENT! Gonna buy a package from him next week! Thanks Eric!

    Really mind blowing how big a difference something so little makes. I was maybe 1 or 2 inches too far from it, and was struggling for getting my hip deep in backswing and was adding loft. Little change to stand closer and I was compressing the ball again

    Great video. I watched video of my swing today and discovered I was really flat at the top of my backswing. I discovered I was standing too far away from the ball. Was hitting some nasty hooks. I used the set up like Eric suggested and now my swing is on the plane.

    Hello Eric love the advise once we setup like you say should we not have a second spine tilt in the setup process , or is not necessary in our setup procedure tks

    Xander Schauffele uses an alignment stick and puts a measured marks on it where each club should be. Driver thru wedges. Even an old yard stick would work.

    Well said man - that's a nice check and balance for the knees. Crazy how many amateurs have way tooooo much knee bend at address, nicely done ✅

  • @murfman713
    @murfman713 2 ปีที่แล้ว +2

    I am confused about one particular thing. You said we should always align our armpit, knee and ball of foot. However, as clubs get longer, we should be standing taller, right? How exactly can we stand any taller while still keeping everything lined up? If our 3-points are properly aligned, we should always stand at the same exact height, no? The only thing that should alter our height, while in the aligned posture, would be widening and narrowing our stance. Ontop of this, considering we are supposed to have a wider stance with longer clubs, in theory, we would actually be standing shorter with a driver than we do with a high iron, no? Am I misunderstanding something?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Evan!
      The length of the club getting longer PLUS the LIE ANGLE OF THE CLUB CHANGING allows you to get taller as clubs get loner and keep balance points. More side bend from face on and stance wider as well

      This is such an important question. I like Eric's reply to you, but I'd love to see it demonstrated in a video. Eric, do you have another video where you go over this? Where does the armpit align in relation to the knee cap for, say, driver versus wedge? And/or are the knees bent a little less?

  • @Nigel999
    @Nigel999 5 ปีที่แล้ว +3

    Thank you, Eric. This the first time I have seen this explained so perfectly. Can’t wait to try this at the range and check my posture.
    You did mention different clubs briefly, but how does it work? I am assuming that by taking the same approach to set up, for a 4 iron the ball would be further away from you than a 9 iron, because the club is longer?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      That it correct...and the posture will gradually be more UPRIGHT as the clubs get longer generally

    Ok. JUST WATCH THIS VID!
    I’ve just signed up for monthly lessons with Eric based on watching two vids and some feedback with half an hour practice.
    I know it’s not always going to work as quickly as this and some things will take weeks to build into my swing but posture is key. It’s the base for everything. Get this and other stuff has a chance.
    I started the day with a really shallow backswing but after watching another vid prescribed by Eric it’s now really quite steep. Still working on a shallower downswing but that will come. BUT I am now flushing the ball without thinking about it.
    Cheers Eric. You are worth every penny. ⭐️
    Ps. I dont normally get this enthusiastic! 😂

    Does these setup fundamentals also apply to the driver?
    ...ive been experimenting with the moe norman style single plane swing with a high handle for driver.. Man it feels simple and easy....!
    Currently working to get my check points worked and grooved for setup so i can get a good shoulder and body turn.

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! Totally OK to have a higher handle at setup if you would like! Generally speaking having the butt of the club point roughly to your belt line would be AVERAGE....more above that would promote a bit more PUSH/DRAW....lower would promote more PULL/FADE

    Does the distance change if you have a flatter swing rather than an upright swing?

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 หลายเดือนก่อน

      Hey! It can a little from player to player but I would work off these as a base line/starting point and adjust from there

    If you watched the tour championship, one of the announcers pointed out Justin Thomas’s distance away from the ball. He said, “Ben Hogan said you can never be too close to the ball...” when I practice, I try to get as close to the ball as I feel is comfortable, I notice it promotes a inside out path naturally. The problem is when playing a round, I tend to creep back to my old habits of standing further away, thinking that adds width. I know it is the opposite, just years of muscle memory kicking in. I eventually get closer, after 70 shots or so😂

    • @CogornoGolf
      @CogornoGolf  5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hey Bill!
      Appreciate the message!
      I do think you can get too close.
      I also think you can get too far.
      IF you have to alter the balance in the feet or posture because of the distance from the ball thats where it can become a problem

    Enjoyed the video. The title reminds me of a dialogue between a pro and an amateur during a pro-am. The amateur duffs his driver and the ball dribbles off the tee. He turns to the pro and says, "What did I do wrong?". The pro answers: "You stood too close the ball after you hit it." The amateur says, "Um. Thanks."

    Eric, what do you think of leaning the butt of the club against the left thigh? It should be a a few inches above the knee cap. A measure you can do on the course.
