- Have you ever heard of 'The Francesinha'?
We had no idea about this dish, until we were in Porto and not only saw it everywhere, but it was the #1 recommendation from locals. We had to give it a try!!
We weren't sure if we were going to like it honestly... there's a lot going on here. BUT we ended up ordering 2. This is a must if you visit Portugal, and even a bigger MUST if you visit Porto. This is by far Portugal's most famous sandwich (but not really a sandwich 😉).

Can you guys recommend a place in Lisbon where you can it this sandwich?
We didn't have it in Lisbon :( I'm going to go ahead an pin this comment in case any locals reply.. our only advice would be to give it a try outside of the main tourist areas and maybe ask about the sauce.. if it's made in the restaurant and not store bought, it should be a good one! :)
Francesinha it's a typical food of Porto. In Lisbon it not so usual. And please, don't call it sandwich. :)

Always ask for more sauce when you are eating a francesinha. They'll get you warm sauce (for free), to take it to the next level! ;)

Oh my, Love that you guys are foodies..so are we. Food makes us really excited especially trying new things. I have decided I am going to find a good authentic recipe and make some at home.
Trying new foods is one of our favorite parts of traveling :) It's so cool to hear you guys like to try new foods too and also make them at home! There’s two french sandwiches, the croque monsieur and the croque madame, and this one looks like both of them put together and then add more of everything…

Do they only serve it with pork ? Can you get beef or chicken instead ?
I'm sure you can ask, hopefully they would have a replacement for pork 🙏🏼 We did hear from someone on Instagram about a vegetarian version and they said it was good :) Either way, hope you find an option that works for you! Safe travels!

definitely the best francesinha in portugal been there absolutely the best was taken to a place in braga some people will say they have the best francesinha in europe i disagree cafe santiago has the best ones no doubt about it

Is Francesinha not available in Lisbon?
Yes, it is available in Lisbon. But it is not as easy to find as in Porto. It is a Porto dish :)
Santiago is not the best Francesinha, only it is commercially touristic famous. Far away of the best one! Prosit!😂

@@GlairGullwing With all the pleasure! For me you can eat at “Restaurante Majara “ at Matosinhos (just aside Porto) or more gourmet at B&B Gourmet Restaurant Rua da Venezuela, Boavista, Porto.
The chef of Majara is the only partner alive of the Francesinha creator at Restaurante A Regaleira, in the 50’s of XX century.
