I'm a metal musician from Finland. Billy Strings brought me to this world and now I'm listening to this in tears. What a wonderful world the music world is!
As a teen (in the early 2000s), I did my art project on her and gram parsons. My art teacher was taken aback that I even knew them but good music is good music, even if it’s not your style or era - I love her!
My God! This woman always leave me speechless after listenining any song. But this one kills me totally. Live performances are even better than studio recordings. Which is rare. She's magnificant performer....and she's a beautiful woman too. God...thank you for Emmylou Harris.
@@Charles-db3kr So now you're an English teacher? I type about 100 wpm and sometimes make a typo. But thanks for playing. You can pick up your participation trophy on your way out
Nashville is not all you hope for. I live here Downtown and all it is, is Bar after Bar after Bar. and shitty cover non country music. no one has any! talent, Nashville is for those who like to waist there life on Beer, Sex, and shitty cover music. If I could, I'd move down to San Diego, Much better for country there. that's where all the old good country singers live like Emmylou here.
Nashville is not what it used to be. now it's a drinking town with a country problem. New York has got a better live country music scene. same goes with just about any major stop between Dallas and California
What I love about Emmy Lou is her willingness to help other musicians with their own music. She sings backup or whatever is needed . For her it's all about the music.
Saw Emmylou & Rodney last night and they played this song in the set. Emmylou is ONE OF THE FEW troubadours who can sing directly to my soul. I've been going through a lot of stuff, and when I met her after the show, I thanked her for her music has helped me through my troubled times. She was gracious an beautiful as always (:
Such a beautiful song....Emmylou is so great. God love her. Everyone gives Merle, Willie, Waylon and so many others their props which they certainly deserve but Emmylou has been at it since the early seventies. She paid her dues just like all the rest.
I have been a huge fan of Emmylou since 1980 and she is definitely my favorite singer. A strange thing happened today. I was sitting in a parking lot listening to the Red Dirt Girl CD which I have not really listened to much. I sat and listened to this song and it really hit me deep down. How had I missed it that this is truly a musical work of genius, both in songwriting and performance? The truly great ones can use music and lyrics to reach deep down into our heart and soul. What a blessing to the world she is.
What a meaningful song. Emmylou you bring so much joy to people through your music. Such a beautiful looking lady and from what I’ve read a beauty on the inside too. May our Lord continue to bless you.
Heartbreaking story song ,,,,, one thing they dont tell you bout the blues when you gottem, you keep on falling cause ther aint no bottom, there aint no end .......least not for Lillian. Emmylou at her best.
I literally gave my computer a standing ovation after listening to this. The album version gives me goose bumps all over, this brought a tear to my eye and made the hair on the back of my neck stand up. Incredible.
Today is your birthday Emmylou; 67th. Congratulations. Congratulations. Congratulations. For everything you stand for and what you do. Listening to you is like listening to angels. Congratulations, Emmylou.
My daughter and I sang this on the docks of Annapolis, MD about 10 years ago with my trio. My daughter was 8 and loved this song. She took it over and did such a beautiful job. Great song, great story...always be there for your friends.
Tickets to see EmmyLou Jan 31...drove tractor trailer early '80s listening to her. Saw her many times live. Meridian...nuff said! Me,come full circle!!!
There ain't many live performances out there that make me stop what I'm doing and sit watch and listen in amazement this is definitely up there with the best if not best I've seen what a gem she is
Ms. Harris may never escape her beauty or the compulsion of the rest of us to comment on it. Between God and her gene pool, she’s been gifted that blessing and curse. What is more subtle and far more impactful and so much more powerful are her values, talent, dedication to beautiful causes. This song easily is one of my favorites by any artist and she sings the story so well that her voice echoes the melody and lyric between my ears long after she’s done singing.
Emmylou seems like such a beautiful, sweet and caring person if I had a chance to meet her I'm not sure if I would do it for the risk of finding out she was none of those things. But I'm pretty sure she is an angel on earth.
Please! I love Emmylou but she was more than 10 years into her career before she even attempted writing. She has written a few good songs but nearly all of her best recordings were whiny someone else. There is nothing wrong with that. She’s a superb vocalist. But let’s not pretend she’s Dolly Parton as a songwriter.
@@captainkangaroo4301 No..she is not mainly a songwriter but can write songs. Listen to Wrecking Ball. She has the uncanny ability to take songs others have written and to sing them better than anyone. IMHO She's the best female country singer than anyone, bar none, except maybe Patsy Cline. She's won 14 Grammy awards over the years.
@@captainkangaroo4301 I believe she wrote some of the songs that were on her on her only folk album, which came out in 1969 and didn't sell. She was about 22 then. Her beautiful tribute to Gram Parsons, Boulder to Birmingham, written by Emmylou and Bill Danoff, was on her first country album, Pieces of the Sky, which came out in 1975.
Being a southern boy, red dirt, Blue Tick hound, Crepe Myrtle bush, this one hooked me when I first heard it many years ago, even without Whippoorwills at sunset or millpond mist in the moonlight. Hearing an angel sing it probably made the difference.
It's almost impossible to realize it will be 30 Farm Aids coming up this year! Still if they produce Emmylou and performances with this much soul, I could stand about that many more! I've no doubt she will still sound as good!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I've seen her once after many years of waiting for the opportunity. Baltimore probably 2010. Fantastic is the only word for it. Sang well over 2 hours song after song. Just way past my expectations which were high.
Complimenti per gli effetti del microfono che sembra che Emmy stoni con la voce... Scherzetti dei tecnici del suono invidiosi ed incapaci.. Love Emmylou!
never trust anyone that doesn't like Emmylou Harris voice.

I met her on her birthday back in the 80's. Lupus Heartbreak Hotel Prov. RI. I love her.
You need to add «there’s two kinds of people»
I MET HER!

I’m a Vietnam veteran and the stanzas about Lillian’s brother and the 49 Indian leaves me in tears every time I hear it. Thanks
Thank you sir, and I'm sorry your country treated you that way...I'm Irish, came late to your great country...
Me too brother, me too.

Welcome home, Brother. I think that verse gets every Veteran but particularly y’all.
Come to Hardly Strictly Bluegrass in SF this year. It'll do your heart good. You and your 750,000 best friends. Sept. 30-Oct 2
One day when Emmylou Harris and Linda Ronstadt are no longer with us, I will cry my eyes out.
So will i
Me too. I just bought a new guitar and named her Lillian for this beautiful song.
My Aunt Lillian had a hard life, may she and all the 'Lillians' of this world and beyond know peace.
I have been in love with this woman and her voice for over 50 years. There is no sweater voice on the planet.
Sweater voice? I think you mean sweeter

Indeed are right Becky .. that is absolute passion for me . She’s definitely a rare kind of artist
57 years young here and still one of the most beautiful people I have ever seen...and the voice of an angel
She is beautiful at any age she happens to be
Those Bette Davis eyes just magnets anytime..

How can someone pack so much living into a 3 or 4 minute song? What a testament to song writing skills and the singing ain't bad either
This song hits on so many levels. Emmylou is an absolute gift.
Some love for her guitar player there too. Never takes the spotlight but adds so much to the atmosphere with subtle playing and singing. Awesome!
Buddy Miller
