1:56 Criterion was once asked if they were interested in developing another Burnout and they said yes but they didn't know when. Although there is no certainty yet, at least Criterion will be ready with the next Burnout.
- Burnout Dominator is spin-off developed by EA UK not Criterion Games as they where busy already with Paradise - I have no problem with an open world itself, but the races are way to open and like you said having checkpoints would improve the races a lot if they ever gonna make a new Burnout
I loved the NFS games, but Paradise City is my all time favorite game. It has more of an arcade feel to it. Maybe not everyone loves to do double barrel rolls...
It sucks when compared to Burnout 3 Takedown and Revenge. I actually liked Paradise when i have played it at launch (it was my first burnout game) but after playing those other two and replaying Paradise in form of Remaster i had very mixed fillings mostly leaning into negative the longer i have played. Races are extremely repetitive with lazily put point A and point B, there are not much point in trying to get another version of the same car (it's empty gameplay padding just like last license grind), lack of hand crafted races means that they are even less fun, there are way less cars on the street when compared to the old games, takedowns are way easier this time so maybe that's why once you tap or get tapped once you start driving up the wall or nearby car lack of control lasts for too damn long also you also can't destroy enemies when you crash and demolish them with your car wreck it's lame. Remastered has already preinstalled patch that made practically all cars slower than in early days of Paradise it especially hurts early cars and make them way too slow it makes that mode where you get chased by aggressive npc cars suicidal and practically impossible to finish till you finally get better cars. I had issues with seeing shortcuts once you break yellow barriers they should be glowing even after you smash them it would make races more bearable instead of forgetting that you have shortcut there or hitting wall like bloody idiot.
I think time hasn't been kind to its open world. A lot of games have refined the ideas in this game. Back when it came out it was revolutionary and must have been mind blowing. Today, unfortunately, some of the magic has been lost.
I loved the 1st 3 Burnout games and still go back and play Burnout 3 every so often. I just never liked Paradise as it for me just wasn't a Burnout game and took away elements of what i liked about the series prior to that point. Burnout paradise isn't a bad game but imo it's just not a good Burnout game. I preferred the closed route nature of the original games, i preferred picking a car/event type from a menu rather than having to drive around to find events and swap cars at the junk yard. I also didn't like how spread out and slower the gameplay felt given how there were multiple routes rather than everyone battling on a closed route that contained the chaos and made the gameplay feel more fun.
It's that the Rubberbanding does not really work in races of this open nature, if they added checkpoint to every race than rubberbanding would have been more effective
Burnout Paradise Remastered isn't the worst Burnout game. Sure, it is repetitive because it is a remaster and this appears to be the only Burnout game that I have ever played.

We have a dream...
But most keypeople behind Burnout (and Criterion games overall) are gone and strated their own new game development sutdios

It runs 60fps on the Switch most of the time, which is one of the few racing games on the Switch that runs at 60fps. I like it.
Outrun also runs at 60 😉

I was a Ridge Racer guy
I have tried to get into it over the years but never understood the bizarre drifting mechanic. Any tips for which game is the best place to start?
@@goukigod R4 is fantastic on ps1. The N64 version was pretty good from what I remember.

That's a good point. You really only battle other cars at the start of the race. Otherwise it's pretty common not to see anyone else.

How do you know it's not the worst if it's the only one you've played?
