@@VirginiaFruitGrower it's a dwarf and grafted. Unfortunately it didn't come with a label, I bought it online during a hard lockdown last year. It has 8 fruits maturing on it now
What a beautiful looking fruit...my son loves blood organes...(i think he feels like a vampire hahaaa) they are not readily available here. Glad you got to taste test you collector mandatin plant plants! The budd blood organge looks great and very juicy too!
Unfortunately neither of these would survive without protection in 7b or I would have already planted them out in my zone 8a location 😕. I appreciate you watching Joseph 🙏.
@@VirginiaFruitGrower Ah. I just compared weather, and your current temperatures are about what we get in May. If they went out, they would survive, but wouldn't like it very much. Middle of April is about the right time for them to go out.
@@VirginiaFruitGrower I switched all my citrus over to coconut husk chips and plastic nursery pots, and let them dry out for a few days before moving in or out.
@@VirginiaFruitGrower Coconut doesn't sound like a great option for your warmer climate. Last July - Sept, I arranged all my citrus pots from side to side in a big circle, and laid a drip hose on them with a timer for a daily watering, which saved lots of time. Our cool season is pretty much 7-8 months out of the year, and our warm season highs (May-Sept) are typically 70-85, so it's generally a good medium for this climate.
You never cease to surprise with your fruit picks. Can you please do a compilation of all the citrus trees/fruits you have in your collection in a single video? That would be awesome. Also, can you elaborate what that device Briks is about ? Best wishes from India 🇮🇳 Stay safe.
Thank you so much ABC! My citrus varieties are scattered throughout my older videos. I'm trying to just do like one or two varieties per video now and not mix them in with other fruit trees to eventually make a citrus variety playlist.
The Brix refractometer gives us an idea of how much sugars (sucrose) there is in a particular fruit. This can help us measure how sweet or sour something will taste.
That reminds me a funny story back in Transylvania, the grocery store got 🩸 blood orange 🍊 and somebody who got it was complaining that there was blood in the orange . They were complaining online till they realized that there is actually a variety that got blood 🩸 like color ... I think they thought it was just a regular orange and when they opened it got scared that somebody tampered with their food and warned people online don’t buy in that store ... lol
@@VirginiaFruitGrower yes and it’s rolling in quickly. Raining solid and for next couple of days. Major flooding north of me but just wet here. The fruit looks like a brain 🧠 😆 That color wow, not much seeds, is that because it would have needed a little longer? Update: You said it was a mandarin, that's probably why.
Yep the Rubino does look like a brain lol! It is basically seedless. The Budd Blood does have a few seeds. I was surprised to see your stream with Small Seeds!
I'm undecided between a Clementino Rubino and a Calamansi "Philippine Lime" eventhough I live in a 10a I had little or no success with citrus due to the repentine climate changes in winter it can get from 10a to 8b, I'd still prefer slightly the clementino rubino in taste but I heard calamansi produce all year round and is probably more cold tolerant.
Hi karwoski91! It pretty much depends on what you want. A citrus fruit you can eat out of hand or a fruit for mostly culinary uses. Calamondin is fairly easy to grow and produces a lot of fruit once established. It make a delicious citrus-juice too. Clementino Rubino's taste is good but I feel like Amoa 8 is tastier.
