    I love this! I've been trying to come up with a cheap or free material for a walkway that I could build around the perimeter of my property a little at a time. Pallets are perfect. I've broken down a number of pallets and I love the idea of cutting all of the nails with a reciprocating saw. Muuuuch faster! I have a suggestion for next time. You could have stacked a bunch of the pallet boards with one side of the ends lined up together and drilled through them all at once, then flipped them and lined up the other end to drill through at once. They would have the holes before you laid them on the ground. I love your TH-cam channel. 🙂

    I bought packs of picket fence and sawed the pointed in off then placed over 3/4"x2"x8' rails of wood. After 8 years it was rotting & worn so graduated to 2x4 on 2x6 railing. Everyone loves the wood.

    • @jdsick1
      @jdsick1 5 ปีที่แล้ว

      Old comment, but very curious to what you think is a power tool. She uses a cordless circular saw at 1:28 to cut them. Do you have a power nail/board puller or something? 🤣

  • @dsantamaria713
    @dsantamaria713 4 ปีที่แล้ว +6

    I have always used my Sawsall to break down Pallets...Additionally, when using Pallets for Vegtable gardens, or for indoor projects such as bed frames etc. be sure to use Heat Treated Pallets..You also might want to run the boards through a Planer...
    Pallets are so much fun!!!!

    Just leave the pallets stacked when you saw them. Another tip: lift 1 pallet and drop it on a corner, do this on the opposite corner as well. And the boards will be easier to take off the middle part.

  • @Hrackoe
    @Hrackoe ปีที่แล้ว

    Awesome work.
    If I may, get you a sawzall or whatever you wanna call it, and put a multi blade on it and just cut the nails between the planks and the 2x4 area. Will speed up your pallet tear down (on the most grueling part of it anyway) in half.
    If you want to remove the nail heads afterwards, a cheap Phillips head and hammer will knock them right on out, and you get to keep the entire length of the planks as well.
    Keep up the amazing work!!!

    This looks like the area that had a tree arch that had overgrown the pathway. I believe the old pathway was chunks of recycled concrete. This is a huge improvement! And budget friendly. I looks like it will be quite serviceable as a walkway and pretty as well! I'm guessing this is a temporary solution until the budget allows for a more substantial design. My one concern is that there will be weeds in the margins around the boards. But some landscape fabric would address that, and lengthen the life of the path for not too much more time, talent or treasure. Very nice job.

    I like mulch, but so do my neighbor’s cats. When I started my planting projects a couple of years ago, I used black mulch and it looked so good. I have a neighbor who feeds all the stray cats in the neighborhood. They enjoy dining at her house, but pooping at mine. I’ve tried all kinds of repellents around my plants to keep them away. So far, nothing has worked. Now I mostly use the lava rocks.

    I really like how you have multiple paths in your garden so you can enjoy the beds from different angles. In the same way we use plants of different textures, its nice to have paths of different material to provide more interest. Great job!

    Caution with wood walkways, I’ve had one for three years. When wet (from rain or snow) they become very slippery. I fell on ours breaking a leg, just recovering from surgery. While a very beautiful addition to any garden, be careful.

      I know treated lumber can be very slick when wet but I would think that the rough pallet boards would have traction.

      @@buckeyejen1076 Wood in direct contact with the ground will retain moisture that feeds fungi and can create a film on the surface. It's also possible for the wood to cup and create raised edges to trip on.

    I was skeptical at first. But seeing it's Benjamin approved, it's a GO!
    Thanks for all the fun ideas. Gotta add it to my forever home board. 😍
