DANG Ruan! I love them all. You little pattern sleuth! LOL, I’m a “Brave Woman of the 1960’s and 1970’s”. So fun to see classic patterns coming back into fashion again. I have “plans” to make the Lagan Coat from Itch To Stitch and a Trench coat as well. Both have Sew-Alongs which will guarantee my success. I support Karina from “Lifting Pins and Needles” who has made both and she’s an awesome sewing instructor. Of course, I actually need to stay home to accomplish these coat dreams. Hugs from the middle of the Atlantic Ocean on the way to Cape Verde! Miss seeing you goofy girl…
Wow Ruan! Youve missed your calling as a style guru! Fabulous choices and then your own ideas thrown in was a real treat! Can't wait to see what you make and I just can't choose one - I love 'em all. 😁
@@theyorkshiresewgirl lol I wondered where it went. Doh! That's what you get watching for vlogmas back to back and typing right at the end lol, yours loaded straight after😳
OMG now I am in a dilemma!!! I love them all. You could stand out in any of these for sure. I hope you get to make them at some stage. Thanks for sharing coats with a difference
tpc 28 coat Mustard yellow would be fantastic..love the camel coat... oh velvet in a coat omg .. Adore trench coats I've always had one.. the last one is perfect for anyone.. beautiful .. You can't go wrong with any of them
Love the first coat. Gonna buy. I make a coat every year. Some stunners. I have a lot of coat fabrics and all my coats are lined. If not I line them anyway. Too cold here in winter to let that chill thru. But I WILL purchase that first one. Thanks heaps for a look into ones I’ve not seen before. Made a coat outta black corduroy for a client - a 1970 pattern. Very awesome. I loved it. My dad’s favorite coat of mine was a brown corduroy with green lining that was like a cowboys rain coat… I wore it into hospital when visiting him cause the weather wasn’t warm out… just gave him a smile when he saw it. But me and coats. Yeah baby!!!! 🦩🦩💕💖✂️🪡🧵
@@janetstapleton8796 my lining was green, as the brown grey/green was ore brown grey/green 🤣🤣. It was on one on my first-ish vlogs… if you wanna see it 💖💖✂️🪡🧵
What a great collection of patterns! I own the Carmen coat pattern - I haven't made it yet. I bought it because it's my grandmother's name (and my first name!).
Haven’t started watching the video yet, but I needed to come on now to tell you that I love your channel, and most importantly, your hair colour is a knockout! Makes your eyes and skin just glow.I noticed this a few podcasts ago but neglected to comment.oops…anyway it’s back to the show. I’ve never made a coat but you never know. Take care, Ricki
I adore the last coat! It's shape is very classic. I made my daughter a denim trench coat, probably 25 years ago. I remember the top stitching took forever. She thinks she might still have it packed away in a storage bin.
Oh my jaw has dropped!! Love all of these and my coat list is now ridiculously long!! I have the simplicity pattern and fabric to make a copy of the very posh Toteme scarf coat, plus the nova coat and fabric, love the trend patterns coat - just need the Christmas elves to come out at night and finally get them sewn for me!! 🫣😂
We're only just getting into it & you've hit my favourite, that I've drooled over it since release - 😍😍😍 Totally agree on colours choice too, i need the trend patterns coat in a dramatic you-wont-lose-me-in-a-crowd emerald green! Lol xx
Yep, December is coming fast😅. It seems like it comes faster and faster year. I’m going to attempt the Dani Jacket. Andrea has a really good tutorial on it and I thought,”yes, I can do this”. It’s really pretty and she goes step by step and has a few add ons like a little coat loop for hanging your coat. I have to practice this one. It’s going to be a fun project that will take some playing around with fabrics and techniques that are new to me. Never sewn a jacket or coat before. Thank you for sharing! Your friend Diane ❤
Ooooo I love love love the Trend pattern coat and the rock steady coat! You have me googling boiled wool lol. I do have some wool that just arrived in a classic beige color that I plant to make Know Me 2001 with it.
The first one🎉!!!! I bought lime Green wool blend from rainbow fabrics and I was gonna use the fiber mood free pattern but now I need to compare to that one. They are knock offs of the Prada coat. ❤❤❤
I made simplicity 9187 as a wearable muslin, which I thirfted the fabric for ~40 dollars. Then I plan to make the Love Notions shawl collar coat as another wearable muslin. I’m working towards a beautiful double sided boiled wool that I’m excited/scared to cut into! I love some of these coats, though honestly I feel if it takes you six years to make these coats you’ll have 36 ideas in reserve. So many cute patterns come out all the time it’s hard to stay constant!
Yes, like you I sew a coat every winter. This year it’s going to be the Tigris, the new Madison Fauve pattern. You need to make the one with the pieced sleeve and definitely put velvet on it.
I think you should make the first one first, in hot pink of course. I love the look of the unlined Fiber Mood tan coloured coat. It looks so soft and cuddly and I'm really into soft and cuddly right now. I'm in Southwestern Ontario, Canada, and it seems like our weather has been mirroring yours for the past year or so. What happens down your way happens here a day or two later. We beat you this time though. We already had a little dusting of snow the past couple of days. But there is more to come.
As a side note. Place your ironing board next to you and your sewing machine, creating an L shape, to take the bulk and weight of all that fabric. Adjusting the height of the board so it is the same level as the bed of your machine if possible. This is a quilters tip and it works brilliantly, if you have the room to do so of course. Looking forward to seeing the end products
Lovely coat patterns! I took notes! I have made coats in the past but not very recently. I’ve had enough coats really in my wardrobe but sooo tempted by the Nova coat and the Berlin coat you made. I love the big sleeves on some of these as I like room in a sleeve. I’m storing them in my mind for a future year as a lot were stand out coats for dressy occasions. At the moment I just wear the warmest coat I have, usually a puffer coat. 🥶Many thanks 😊
Great vlog and love all your choices and rationale for each. I actually traced off the Drea pattern from my magazine and laid out on my denim from my stash and was absolutely gutted when I didn’t have enough 😲. Don’t know how that happened. I couldn’t get any more of the same denim so went on to other things. Maybe after Xmas I will return to it. I now have the fabric and pattern for the Tessuti Richmond coat. Welt pockets - gulp!! Good luck with your Nova.
Your review of standout coat patterns was great! I'm intrigued by making a coat. I love an out-of-the-ordinary coat color but we just moved to Florida so it looks like that ship has sailed. LOL! I'm looking forward to your Vlogmas posts!
I've haven't made a coat yet. I have a book on how to make bog coats, so I think I'll start there. Even if I just use it inside (I live in Pennsylvania, USA and it gets WICKED COLD), it'll be a good practice run. I have made a kimono-style light cardigan/jacket, and I want to make it again in a flannel for these freezing months.
Oops just bought the Rock Steady coat pattern, did have 25% off though, love the look of it with silver pleather and like the idea of velvet too! Thanks for the inspiration Ruan ❤ I think your fav might be the Fibre Mood wrap coat, it mentioned animal print 😂
The second coat with the attached scarf could be quite cool as you could tie the scarf into a statement bow off to the side , which I think would look amazing. You could even do it in a contrasting colour, texture, or pattern 😊
The Trend coat looks identical to the Mood fabrics Clark coat (free pattern). I sized down several sizes and it's still v oversized. Check sleeve length - I added quite a bit. Yes, the sleeve pleats are a challenge to sew. I made it in a statement bright pink and a friend commented ''if somebody runs you over you'll know it was done deliberately'. But I love it.
I thought I’d seen that trend pattern coat before and I was right. The stitch sisters made it in 2022 in bright blue and reviewed it so may be worth a watch

The first one, Ruan, gotta make that. It’s magnificent
A really nice round up. It’s nice to see a pattern from How to do Fashion mentioned. I love her style.
