the snare is SO PERFECT. i don’t know what it is but i’ve never heard any snare sound exactly like that. i love the tone it has and you recreated it perfectly
It seemily goes overlooked in current times and far as snare drum head usage goes....but Remo pinstripes on the snare drum were pretty common in the 80's. So many drummers can be seen in live concert footage in the 80's-early 90's rocking a pinstripe on the snare batter. There is just something about putting that specific head on a snare.Tuning it down gets that thuddy crisp yet dry but wet and slightly thick mud boominess with some darkness to it. Many drummer overlook it or don't think to use that drum head on anything except toms and kick drums.Fogetting that it is nice as a snare drum head as well.
The simplicity in style and the power that Steve Adler uses when he hits the drums were so important to the guns sound , it's often overlooked how critical a drummers style and sound are to a good band , he never over played in any song , the perfect drummer for guns and he should be asked to join the band again , he's very much missed .
I've been waiting for this moment since the beggining of this channel. I started to play drums because of Steven Adler and Appetite for Destruction it's my favorite album ever. I always wondered how to get close to his huge drum sound. Thank you so much guys to this. Once again, you naild it!
Aside from the sound of the actual drums on "AforD", it was, as we all know Steven himself. His feel which was almost a swing, his time, and his taste in picking fills, grooves, and beats and how to play them. His drums were well recorded but it was Steven that breathed life into both them and the sound we hear on the album. It's great to see GnR and mostly Steven, getting some love from the drumming community. The guy was no technical player but he had that heavy feel and swing that GAVE that record and "Lies" the feeling they needed.
Steven had a groove to his playing. Guns had a funky thing going on. Listen to Steven and Duff isolated and you would think you were listening to early 70's funk.
They absolutely were. Duff talks about it in his most recent book. He mentions that specifically, Parliament Funkadelic and Sly and the Family Stone were a huge influence on the band's groove. He also said that they lived close to Sly and Duff would hang out with him. It's a really interesting book, I recommend reading it if you get the chance. Another notable influence on Duff's bass sound was Prince, particularly the boosted high end. It makes sense that Duffs bass has the Purple One's symbol on it.
Danke für deine Frage. Wir haben einfach das gefilmt, was wir am liebsten machen - Sound Recreation. Wir freuen uns natürlich, dass das ganze so gut angenommen wird
Really excellent work, guys! You always manage to nail the sounds. Also, love the Nirvana video Pascal wore a GnR shirt and the GnR video he wore a Nirvana shirt. Priceless!
I remember being 4 years old when my dad first introduced me to this album. We would play it full blast in the car on our way to pick up my mom from work at the time. As a kid, I was so fascinated by that snare sound, and always imagined it as the drummer hitting a giant metal pot😂 this album is what got me playing drums all those years ago
If your looking for suggestions on future episodes. Pearl jam: ten or vrs, sound garden: super unknown, karivool: sleep awake Love the channel and I'm not even a drummer
@@Cincinnatus1869Ever hear of personal opinion? Everyone hears things differently. Bonham isn't one of my favorite snare sounds. Always felt it was overrated because of people's feelings. It's fine, but not my be all, end all just because bandwagon. If we all liked the same stuff, the world would be an absolutely boring place.
When i was in the high school i love that snare sound, finally after 9 years i can recreate this sound because i didn't know how to recreate this sound
Sorum is GREAT, but there's really nothing like Adler's groove on Appetite & even Lies. Like a lot of folks, this was the album that got me into making music. Thanks for this. I actually took the drum sound for granted on his gem. Sounds awesome. Sub definitely earned!
The drums give so much character in Paradise City, and slash guitar of course. It is the marching sound to start a brawl, to go to war and take over a fortress, to win a game when you are down 20pts, or go to paradise city really. First time I heard paradise on a terrace loud at a party I felt a rebellion was about to start
First song I learned to play through was paradise city. The ending was so heavy and cool, I don't play the drums anymore but whenever I'm at a music store or someone has a kit that's always my go to song.
I got this record in 1990 and, although I play guitar, the first thing I liked in this record was the drums. I used to play with a couple of pens on the table along wirh the music
You should rock that hair full-time. Great video! This album shaped my music for a lifetime as a young chap leaving my Dad's discography in the 80s to find my jams. \m/\m/
Beautiful performance as always. Is it possible for you guys to do a recreation of Abe Cunningham from Deftones? It would be interesting to see what you do and how it sounds. (But it will be awesome as always)
Popcorn was he's own man. Even on Civil War ya know it's him. Nothing against Sorum, though, if anything I'm just stating that they both had different styles and personalities and they pretty much defined the band's sound on each of their eras. This ROCKED! Please do Sroum's sound on the Illusions and Spaghetti Incident!!!!!
One of my favorite drum sounds is Red Barchetta from Moving Pictures. Tom Sawyer is also one of their most iconic drum intros and grooves. Same record.
“So we asked John Good over at DW to custom make us our own R40 kit made from that 2000 year old Romanian tree…” Yeah, that one might get a bit pricey.

It all comes full circle
Lol, beat me to it
It’s super funny knowing that both bands hated each other lol
pure comedy gold for those that know

@@tweevers2 I think he used a clear black dot sometimes too. Uncoated heads make a big difference on snare drums.

He was just an average drummer. Don't make more out of it than it is. There's no swing feel.

Seems like a large part of the sound is the snare rim shoot?
Adler always played Sabian cymbals.
The “rock sizzle” hats he used, were
really important part of his sound. 😎
He played Zildjans in Ritz 88

Great video as always. Now lets see the sound and drum set from use your illusion era played by Matt Sorum!
Kick drum sounds so good
the snare on the record sounds like it has a frequency gate on it that rolls off the higher frequencies. I didn't hear it mentioned in the video.
This is a nice recreation video!!! (also can I suggest recreating Josh Dun's drums??)
Sean kinney from alice in chains has an amazing drum tone especially on the albums dirt, black gives way to blue and rainier fog
