      Thank you!!! I am in love with it and have managed to keep it alive for an entire year! 💚💚💚 Although, I will say it's developed some brown tips these past few weeks. I added a pebble tray, but it hasn't helped yet. I'm thinking I need to check my roots...I have a gut feeling that there might be a problem there...wish me luck lol

    I really enjoyed your how to video. I too have killed 2 other rattlesnake plants. So third time is hopefully a charm for me 🤞 I do have one question though. My new leaves won't unfurl. I use a humidifier and group my plants together. He gets good morning East sunshine thru a sheer curtain. When I bought him from a nursery about a month ago, he had 3 new leaves coming in. But they have never opened. I mist him just once a week with rainwater since I use a humidifier. ( I only water with rainwater too) Please help me 🤞

    Hi! I love your videos!! I wanted to know what soil you use?? I have a calathea rattlesnake with 3 leaves and has not pushed out any growth yet! It looks great but just was wondering maybe that's my problem ☺️ it's in a bright room with no direct light and good humidity 🙂

    • @GrowingRoots
      @GrowingRoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Hey girl! Have you tried misting it?? I know I am SO LATE responding to this (sorry!) but the soil I use is just a regular indoor mix, nothing special. I have found that when I mist it regularly it pushes out new growth like crazy! Give it a try, if you haven't already! I mist first thing in the morning, as I'm yelling at the kids to get in the care for daycare Lol

    Best to use filtered or distilled water

    • @GrowingRoots
      @GrowingRoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I have heard that too, but my plants don't get that special treatment - if I drink tap water, they drink tap water lol I'm sure the calathea's that get filtered/distilled water are VERY happy though!

    • @GrowingRoots
      @GrowingRoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      It should be fine! I use tap water on all of my plants and we have hard water here. Calathead and Maranthas are notorious for being sensitive but I don't have any tolerance for high maintenance plants 😅 I say that I neglect all of my plants equally 😂 I haven't had any problem with tap water yet 🤞

    Hello! My calathea rattlesnake (same as urs) has new growth but the bottom side is not purple the new leaves look so pale and flimsy. Any idea what the culprit is?

    • @GrowingRoots
      @GrowingRoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi! Oh no! I'd usually suggest that perhaps the plant is overwatered, but the pale backside AND limp leaves make me wonder if the plant has gotten too cold? Has the temperature been fluctuating at all? Or is the plant near a draft??

    Hi my plants 🪴 leaves are turn I need dry and brown. What am I do I need wrong?.it's in a self watering pot

    • @GrowingRoots
      @GrowingRoots  2 ปีที่แล้ว

      Hi Renee! I've never used self-watering pots, so I don't have much to comment there, but dry, brown leaves tend to be due to either a lack of water or low humidity. I would recommend daily misting or using a humidifier for a week and see if that helps. The brown tips and leaves can be cut off without hurting the rest of the plant, so give it a little trim. Let me know how it goes!

    do u use tap water ??
    which water is good for these plants ??

    • @GrowingRoots
      @GrowingRoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      I do use tap water, and our local water has some pretty high mineral levels, however we do not have a water softener, so there isn't added salt in our tap water. I will say that with having this plant for about 18 months now that I have seen some mineral build up on the soil and towards the end of this past winter I did get some browning on my leaf tips. I'm thinking it was more of a humidity issue than of tap water issue though. I, too, have heard that Calathea's prefer bottled water, but I'm not that kind of plant person LOL I think most plants would be happier with bottled water, but my Calathea seems to be doing well without it.

    My new leaves in my rattlesnake plant are coming in yellow and thin. Is that typical or am I doing something wrong?

    • @irairod5160
      @irairod5160 2 ปีที่แล้ว +1

      Yes, the leaves look very different when they emerge, pale and limp, and then get the expected deep green with purple underside. (I know you asked this a long time ago and have probably found the answer already, but I'm replying in case someone else is new to this particular plant and has the same question.)

  • @lauracourtneyheadley5233

    I just received my new Rattlesnake Plant yesterday. It mostly looks great, but it has a few patches on some of the leaves that look thin and brown--like a layer of the leaf is missing there. It also had a fuzzy, white patch on the bottom of one leaf. (I removed that leaf, just in case.) Any idea what would cause those patches of thin/missing tissue?

    • @GrowingRoots
      @GrowingRoots  3 ปีที่แล้ว

      How exciting for you! Yes, I've had that tissue-thin brown spot problem before and I think it was damage from a water spot left on the leaf and then exposed to too much sunlight. You know, like how you can start a fire with a magnifying glass and the sun? I think water droplets on leaves can create the same effect on sensitive plants. Or....maybe I'm completely wrong! Lol But I really do think that was what happened! Anyways, the spot shouldn't grow or effect the rest of the leaf/plant. Aesthetically, if it bothers you, cut the leaf off. Daily misting (not watering) will help your plant acclimate to your home and help spur new growth. You've got this!
