    The one spin I put on the "If it isn't a heck yes" quote is this:
    Hesitation means no.
    If you are hesitating in any way, shape, or form. you are not going to take any action. The best thing to do at that point is to acknowledge the task is probably too large, too vague, or too demanding. Break it down further until you trigger that yes feeling and then assess if it is still worth your energy to do it.

    I wholeheartedly agree with this but I give these older than 30 day tasks a “Saturday challenge” - in my “Saturday challenge” list I have a Saturday morning session with coffee and go over once and for all. I either get these tasks done, 5 minutes each- no more - or they go away. I also hide these tasks from my regular list.

      This is really cool! I might then try and call it the Friday hour of power. I turn off on the weekends for work stuff. 🤖

    This is one of my favourite videos from Vicky ever! I have set a reminder to review my task manager quarterly and remove any unnecessary tasks.

    This is true of to-do lists, but I absolutely keep running lists of things to check into or make in the future! Those aren't things I need to do, so they don't get put on a to-do list and languish, but I don't need to forget about them, because they'll be nice in the future when I'm, for example, looking for a new background podcast or something.

      Love it! Don’t need to name it as a to do and all of a sudden the mental effort these items take decreases dramatically

    According to David Allen (author of "Getting Things Done") your bain shouldn't be occupied by items on your list. This is why you have them on the list, so that your brain is free for the important stuff. And it looks like you need to get used to a "weekly review" to see what is still "important" or not. And yes, we're all our own managers.
    My "task manager" is basically the Emacs text editor with the Org extension. I know that this sounds weird, that is why I made a playlist to explain this in detail long ago.

    I like the 30-day rule, but IMHO there is 1 big exception: Goals !! I put a select number of goals on my to-do list so I keep focus on them. Some goals i put as reoccurring, so i train myself to turn these into habits . Also, i use my to-do list as a place to 'file and store' my important activities. But I'm very selective on it and usually but a due date on them. Doing this helps me free braincycles because I know i have my important things in my list. My tool of choice is todoist - simple, cross platform and able to share with others.

    Big Corporation leans on its people to take on out of scope responsibilities and slow boils them into not getting compensated at the promise of "oh we'll find someone, soon, don't worry"

    How do you deal with tasks like - my car registration is late..may be 2-3 months...so i haven't taken any action on it but i still have to do it?

    I think this method would benefit from an extra list I'm gonna call the "back burner list." That's not a new concept, but I've never heard someone talk about it like it's a physical list of things.
    So if you think, "hell yeah, I need to do that" and you start to do it but then temporarily lose the ability to (such as a major medical issue), and you don't think you can get the thing done in 30 days but three months from now when you're in a better position again, you could likely return to that task and complete it just fine.
    A routine examination of the backburner list should happen too, but on a longer scale. Tasks should have individual time scales. Item X is likely to be feasible in 1 year, item Y is likely to be feasible in 6 months. Set a reminder to check the list in 6 months and if item Y is feasible now, add it to the regular list.

    Hey 👋🏽 have you ever thought about making a mental model of a personal brand I.e role modeling. That is to say a mental model of the person I want to become, it could be footballer, musician or even a good character

    Instead of Todo list you can use calendar, that way your tasks have a time and a duration.

    It's funny hearing you talk about "becoming ruthless" (with your todo list) while at the same time giving off the most non-ruthless vibes😁
    I'm taking a similar approach for fixing my content diet. I'd always sign up for any newsletter that looks even remotely interesting, same with youtube, etc. You can imagine what my notifications look like, all the open browser tabs "cool things that... I'll get to eventually", the backlog of emails/videos/whatever. I've actually deleted thousand unread emails that were X days old a few days ago and will continue doing a similar with other sources of content. But more important is to actually fix the issue rather than patching up the wound. I'm also not super convinced as to Derek Sivers' approach but I think that's just his way of making sure that as few useless tasks make it onto his list as possible in the first place (to minimize the mental baggage of having to filter or remove them later on), for me it'll be a lot of unsubscribing and being more selective with what content I do interact with moving forward!

    0:16 put the todo list on the calander for 6 months and if i dont complete the task or spend 100 hours or 67 focus 90s on them then they are deleted. And the rule continues.

    What if the task that keeps haunting the bottom of your to-do lists is something that needs to be done, but doesn't have immediate consequences?
    Part of my job involves maintaining a database. When new data is created and I need to edit those listings in the database, the ones I shove to the bottom of my to-do list are the non-urgent ones. Then I never get to them. Not an issue in the short term, but IF this info becomes important in a few months or years, it could really screw people over and cause inefficiencies then. My problem right now is that on any given day this data updating is NOT in my top priorities (and my team would agree), but it's still something that needs to get done that I don't get to. I would love your thoughts on how I can work on this.
    PS: I love your channel and I'm getting more and more interested in frameworks thinking thanks to you!

    My whole sense of self is so bound up with my bag of stressful issues I carry around with me everywhere I'm afraid I will cease to exist if I start jettisoning some of them

      One thing I've been doing for my daily to do's is if there's a task or project that's quite large or it's a lofty goal or dream. What I'll do is spend 5 to 15 minutes working on it and that will be my task and if that keeps getting pushed out then I was never going to do it or I'll even try to break it down to like 2 minutes or just think about it just so I can cross it off and just be done with it.

    3 takeaways -
    1) Consider the tasks I add to my to-do list, as the task will expire if not acted upon in 30 days. This will limit me from adding all the non-urgent and non-important stuff to my list.
    2) A 30-day expiration on the task automatically forces me to focus on the critical/urgent task still pending on my to-do list.
    3) Kill the task if not accomplished in 30 days; it seems it wasn't worth my valuable time & energy.

    Microsoft is totally wrong. 6 months is too short. And u're just causing employee burnout by making them do beyond their scope. This is why windows is so buggy, unintuitive & more expensive with each version !
    As for u, why are u making a list of things that don't matter? U need to know yourself better
